  1. Ooh, more elaborate and specific... And I see the source of inspiration.
  2. Also a person. Looks kind of like evil Renarin. Or something. 8/10
  3. And...that's it! Thank you for coming to my spectacular magic show! But....why eagles? Why? Where did they come from?
  4. Dreamscape: Sixth Archive Pathway - Hallway "I mean...I see no reason why it shouldn't..." Bookwyrm walked over to Calano and put a hand on his shoulder. Calano suddenly began falling down the hallway, with the end they were travelling towards becoming down. It was a slow fall, though, perhaps only a tenth of what it should have been. Bookwyrm walked over and did the same to Matra. Then he Lashed himself down towards them and slowly began to speed them up.
  5. "Curiosity, I suppose. I felt a new world appear within my grasp and decided to visit it. Though..." Bookwyrm fell silent. "Nevermind. It's not important." He glanced around the room again. A few new people had arrived, and seemed to be trying to hold a conversation with a boy who didn't talk. Strange... He glanced around. "Does anyone know where this 'Fadran' is?"
  6. "Perhaps..." Maybe we should have talked to the yellow dragon outside, Perideria said in his mind. She was a majestic shimmering green dragon descended from the dragons of Alagaesia, among others. Let's not be hasty, Astyl intervened. He was an Everwing, a species of dragon native to Astrym, Bookwyrm's homeworld. Every native Astrian bonded one. Let's just gather information and talk to people before we make any big moves. That was what I was suggesting, Astyl... Perideria replied. The two dragons were soulmerged with Bookwyrm, meaning their bodies had temporarily lost substance and their minds resided beside his own. They could observe through his eyes and speak to him telepathically, but until they recalled their own forms, they wouldn't be able to take action. "Shush, you two," Windaphra said, hearing their conversation through their shared bond with Bookwyrm. It's not like they can hear us, Perideria replied. "Yeah, but mister Worldseer here needs to talk to people." Bookwyrm hid a smile at his bonds' banter. Well, there's your answer, Bookwyrm said mentally to his three companions. "Interesting," he said aloud to Galard. "Do you have a magical bond with him, or is it just a bond of friendship?" Bookwyrm blinked. "Who?"
  7. My sister read all of Mistborn Era 1 and she's only 11. She's also a very mature 11 year old, in some aspects. She wants to read Stormlight, and I think she'd deal with it fine, and my parents seem to think so, too. She's read some other stuff by Brandon Sanderson; Rithmatist, Alcatraz, Skyward (just book one, I think) and I gave her Steelheart the other day. So I guess it all depends on the 11 year old.
  8. "No," Bookwyrm replied. "But I'd be interested to find out, especially considering I've bonded several myself." Bookwyrm carefully watched for Klave's reaction.
  9. I need to eat more cheese, apparently. I like parmesan. What about chocolate cheese?
  10. Bookwyrm continued on his way, looking for whoever was in charge. He neared the front of the room, where there stood a man, a younger girl with a spider monkey, a mysterious small boy, and a figure that exuded a sense of ancientness. @Shadowed @Ookla the Inverted @Nathrangking @Trutharchivist
  11. Bookwyrm caught the gaze of the strange girl. A thread of information tickled his mind, granted by his ability... Rayvyn. A name. He didn't use the name. Revealing his (admittedly extremely limited) omnipotence was not a good way to make friends here. Or anywhere. Then again, in this world, his Allsight was dampened more than normal. The wills of too many important souls are gathered, he realized. The past and future aren't solid. I can't see them. Instead of addressing the girl, he smiled slightly and gave a friendly nod, then continued on his way. I guess if she wants to say something to me, she will...and if not, then that's that.
  12. Prompt for Day 3: A treasured curse @The Wandering Wizard, you can go ahead and do day 4 whenever you want. And I know I haven't been writing my own stories based on these prompts, but hopefully I'll get to it sometime. I'm glad everyone else is enjoying it!
  13. Bookwyrm glanced around the room. More people were arriving... Windaphra flitted back to him. "Find anything?" he said to her. "No," she replied. "Nothing of note. Seems like a fairly normal inn...besides, you know..." Bookwyrm nodded. "A strange pocket dimension indeed." Bookwyrm angled his way to the edge of the room, trying to circumnavigate to the front. As he did, he passed by a young girl in a dark cloak. She held a knife in her hand and seemed to be studying it. @Aes Sedai
  14. A new world appeared in Bookwyrm's sense. Might as well- A sudden warping in the air in front of the Mishmash Inn appeared, and Bookwyrm stumbled from it. ....What was that? "How should I know?" Windaphra said. The honorspren flitted up to him in the form of a young woman in an intricately laced tunic. Bookwyrm gave her a flat look. "I wasn't talking to you..." She shrugged. Bookwyrm sighed as he walked up the steps to the inn. When he opened the door, he saw a large group of travelers. They were varied in appearance, clothing, and company. One of them had a dragon. Good to know I won't be the only one with a dragon...Bookwyrm thought, though both of his were currently resting. Inside his soul. It's kind of complicated. Windaphra turned into a ribbon of light and began exploring the nooks and crannies of the room as Bookwyrm walked up to the group. His appearance wasn't anything extravagant. He looked like a young man, perhaps in his late teenage or early adult years, with a mop of neat brown hair and blue glasses. He wore a sturdy blue travelling tunic with a leather belt, to which was tied a variety of pouches and a mysterious sword. Over that, he had a deep blue cloak patterned like the night sky, and held a strange staff in his right hand. Bookwyrm slowly walked up to the group, but didn't introduce himself.
  15. Avi stared at Il'anque. "How did you..." She paused. "Nevermind. It wasn't a flashback, exactly." Her star-speckled eyes took on a distant look. "Just...deep memories."
  16. Is it okay if my character is just a fantasized Hoid-like dimension travelling scholar version of me?
  17. What else would be? How else would we figure anything out?
  18. Also, I just realized that in the artwork for Hoid's duel with the Sorceress, the tropical shirt he's wearing has Marewill flowers on it...
  19. I don't know what my favorite kind is... Besides, things are so much more interesting when they're liquid. That's when they can be solvents that allow life to exist on planets. Except dry ice. Dry ice is fun. EDIT: Don't get me started on hypothetical types of biochemistry. Astrobiochemistry.
  20. I am fairly certain that his audience is on First of the Sun. Most of the nautical and sailing references make sense. What really made me think that this is a First of the Sun audience is something Hoid said near the end...he mentioned spacecraft with advanced technology landing on the audience's homeworld. Which we know is happening on First. EDIT: Found the exact quote...
  21. "...That's a secret I'd like to keep. For now." Trust wasn't something Avi was accustomed to. Not since the destruction of her home. But strangely, amongst the legions of Death themself, she was slowly growing more comfortable with the idea... She gazed at the stars, which were still visible even in this phantom realm. Light from her distant homeworld filtered through the dimensions and into her eyes. Another planet in the system. Still distant, but reachable.... ... She remembered standing at the threshold of the portal. The grassy landscape around her was swathed in the shadow of night. Despite this, Avi could clearly see. The reflected light of Ter'amavi, the gas giant which her homeworld orbited, shone across the night-cloaked land, bringing light from it's swirling blue clouds. Her homeworld, Lev'amavi, was the largest moon of Ter'amavi, the largest planet in the Figeri Collective. A stone circle stood in front of her, towering over the land. It was tall, and swirled with a shimmering blue light. It pulled at her with an indescribable sensation. Only one step, and she would be on another world. She was reluctant to leave. Even after she watched her city burn to the ground. Even after she was rescued by the Reapers, and even after she had watched them ferry the souls of her family to a new life. A better life. "I don't want to leave," she said. The man standing beside her smiled and put a hand on her shoulder. He wore a black cloak, but a red tunic of a strange fabric with a silver medallion embedded in the chest. He wore an intricately forged scythe strapped to his back, shaped like flowing flames. "Avi," Kaelim said, "Why don't you want to leave?" His kind blue eyes held a sadness. He wished that none of it could have happened. But it had. The wrath of a God was not something easily stopped, even by the agents of one of the most powerful Gods of them all. "I..." Avi fell silent. "I don't know." Kaelim crouched down in front of her and looked her in the eyes. He had a young face, but his eyes seemed old. Far too old for a normal human. His life was long. As long as Avi's would be, considering her heritage... "It's hard to leave behind what we've known, even if we know that it has nothing left for us," Kaelim said. "I know. I've felt it. "But if you leave, you gain knowledge, power, experience. You'll gain the ability to help others, and perhaps, cleanse this world for those that would come after your ancestors." "But how?" "That is for you to decide. But there is always a place for you in Death's Reapers, when you're older. When you're ready." Avi pondered on this. And slowly she realized... Kaelim was right. There was nothing for her here. Tears began to roll down her cheeks. Kaelim drew her into a hug, and Avi began to sob. She was just a child. Far too young to have to suffer what she had. But it had happened regardless. Kaelim gave her all the time she needed. Once her tears were dry, he took her hand, and led her through the portal. Ast'Avi left her homeworld. But she would return. ... Avi pulled herself out of the memory. Not now. Worry about it later. She stood up and dusted herself off. "We should get moving," she said. "One last stretch towards the Peak." @Frustration @Channelknight Fadran
  22. I'm copying the SU I made into here so people can comment on it and discuss. Keep in mind that I have not read the rest of this thread at this point. Tress of the Emerald Sea. This book was storming incredible. The characters and the plot are wonderful and fit perfectly into the universe of the Cosmere. The worldbuilding is also incredible. The idea of the spore oceans, and all of the implications that come with that, intrigues me greatly. It's so interesting. And while the story was beautiful, that's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about Hoid, and all the references he makes. I think Brandon understands now that a large portion of his audience are hyper-aware Cosmerenauts like us. He's made a story that can be enjoyed by anyone, but has specifically designed it so that, coupled with Hoid's voice, it gives us tantalizing hints that make us sit up and yell "What?!" before dazedly flopping on the ground and trying to figure out what it all means. That happened to me like, eight times in this book alone. I don't even remember all of them. Aethers. Here's a little sort of meme: And I don't know how accurate that really is, but two things stand out to me: First, Midnight Essence. Associated with Re-Shephir, the Midnight Mother. At least, that's what we all thought. But now we know that it's actually an activated form of Aether. What?! How?! Why is an Unmade, formed by Odium, using an Aether?! Also, White Sand. I made a thread about it, and I think Koloss17 did, too; the White Sand of Taldain has far too much in common with these Aethers to be an independent magic system. I think it's a form of Aether. Perhaps an Aether infused with Autonomy's investiture, or something, but an Aether nonetheless. (Maybe that's the answer to the Re-Shepir conundrum; even if the Aethers were originally independent of Adonalsium (if that's really true), a Shard can somehow Invest an Aether in the same way they invest a planet and make it a part of them...) Multiple Scadrial references. Hoid refers to an "adversary" of himself that likes to use the term "For every Push, a Pull." I'm guessing it's everyone's favorite Scadrian Thaidakar, A.K.A Kelsier. Also, our good friend Sazed has "freed" the Kandra by this point in the Cosmere, whatever that means. I wonder what's going on at the Scadrian homefront, especially after some little hints about "Discord" in TLM... Also, Tress mentions Death having spikes in his eyes?! What the scud is Marsh up to?! What else.... This is obviously in the future of the Cosmere. It could be Sixth of the Dusk era...in fact, I think Hoid might be telling the story to someone of First of the Sun, considering he mentions high-tech spaceships landing on the audience's homeworld. While I had foreseen Scadrian technology following an Earthlike path, and Rosharan technology achieving similar effects through Stormlight Fabrials, it seems Nalthians are doing cool stuff with Awakening based technology. Xisis is definitely the Foil mentioned in the RoW epigraphs. I think. Oh yeah, first canonical entry of dragonsteel. Interesting.... The Ire seem to be doing weird shenanigans...either that or Riina is a rouge Elantrian now who likes causing trouble. She has access to several different magic systems...Awakening, AonDor, other magic based technologies...also, we have our first canonical actual spaceship besides the stuff in Sixth of the Dusk. That whole thing was weird... Yeah, concrete evidence that we're in the space age of the Cosmere, and little tidbits of all the technologies being produced by the leading worlds. There's a really deep ocean on Threnody somewhere. What else am I forgetting.... Oh yeah. Hoid specifically mentions him being part of a plot to kill God. Adonalsium. And he and the Vessels apparently told Adonalsium that his/her/their/its death was for his/her/their/its own good? What? This is the end of my ramblings for now. Brandon specifically wrote this book to tease the rest of us. He knows his audience. He knows we spent far too long looking at the clues, and he's using that to throw us for a loop. Giving us just enough to baffle us, but not enough to spoil anything. I love it. I can't wait for SP3 and SP4. This man is a mad genius, and I can't wait to see where he takes us next.
  23. Finished Secret Project 1. Time for some thoughts.

I should probably put this in a thread, but oh well.

Spoilers for SP1 and also probably the Cosmere.

    Spoiler

    Tress of the Emerald Sea.

    This book was storming incredible.

The characters and the plot are wonderful and fit perfectly into the universe of the Cosmere. The worldbuilding is also incredible. The idea of the spore oceans, and all of the implications that come with that, intrigues me greatly. It's so interesting.

Brandon Sanderson: "I have been lying to you, and it's time for me to admit the truth."

What Brandon says: "I wrote four secret novels without telling anyone!"

What Brandon thinks but doesn't say: "I've been using Aethers the whole time without telling anyone!"

And I don't know how accurate that really is, but two things stand out to me:

I just realized that Hoid's tropical shirt in the artwork for that duel has Marewill flowers on it.
