  1. This is what I was suggesting - normally, a longer blade's range is balanced by its increased weight and lack maneuverability; similarly, a shorter blade's speed and control are balanced by its lower reach. Weight, however, is irrelevant for Shardblades*. * I might be misremembering. I do seem to recall that the reason Blades are easier to use is not because they come with a Plate that grants strength, but because they are natively much lighter than normal swords.
  2. That's one of the greatest (first world) tragedies of our age - artists create such incredibly wonderful things in their free time, work that complements and compliments other creative fields (such as literature), and then get stuck at a job that, at best, is only marginally relevant to what they want to do. And even then, pay tends to be... suboptimal. Also, artists have to eat. That's plain not fair.
  3. This is similar to my line of reasoning. Szeth wielding Jezrien's blade has interesting implications, but something always felt off about that theory. Now, his Blade being deliberately designed to kill humans, that I could understand. Though I am not sold on that either - a shorter Blade is (almost always) a disadvantage when your opponent is a Shardbearer. If not for his Stormlight-aided strength, speed, and dexterity, not to mention his Windrunning, Szeth would be a corpse with burned eyes before he could slay his first Shardbearer. Assuming said Shardbearer was even moderately skilled - Gavilar, being one of the best, almost got him even with the Stormlight and the Lashings. A Shardspear (barring in-world cultural implications), or hell, a Shardbow would be much practical for killing humans.
  4. I am not sure fear works like that. I know I can cut my cut my wrists, or even extensively torture myself at any point of time, but I've never been afraid of myself.
  5. Sarcasm towards the Alethi. This struck me as, if not sarcastic, then at least sassy or snarky. Not a bad way, I meant no offense up there.
  6. I still think it's small enough that it doesn't require neither warning nor spoiler tag, but I added it. Also fixed some weird autosuggest my phone had inflicted me with.
  7. I actually think it wouldn't be so much that assassination itself wouldn't be considered a feminine pursuit (I am deliberately ignoring your sarcasm), anything related to fighting would fall under the "scowl at this" category.
  8. It's one of those things we have enough data to come up with theories, but not enough to actually make those theories valid. Kaladin and Szeth fit nicely into the "Order -> Herald -> body focus" kind of logic, but what about Shallan? If she were a Radiant, she would be a Lightweaver; but the blood body focus doesn't really explain how she drew the the Stormlight during her two Soulcastings. Or how Jasnah, who would be an Elsecaller, with a body focus of oil (of all things...), would do the same. Palah's order, the one Ty from the Words of Radiance interlude probably belongs to has body focus of hair - how would that even work?! Not to mention that Lift outright contradicts this idea. So, no, I am far from convinced. Perhaps only the Windrunners can inhale Stormlight - it's not a bad theory - and all the other orders have to physical touch the infused gems, or at least be very close to them (so the gems could be in a pouch, for example). Or perhaps several orders have a special way of obtaining Stormlight - from all we know there might be an order whose members can drain Stormlight out of... the plants around them, for example. Or another that allows its Radiants to bleed themselves and effectively use the blood sacrifice as a source of Stormlight. It could be anything is what I am saying - just probably not this
  9. @happyman, it looks like you've stumbled upon the Principle of Intent You can congratulate Chaos on both of you being brilliant - or downright insane. @Shardlet, you keep withholding information from us, you US government, you...
  10. The storm from the quote doesn't have to be a highstorm. Szeth, and I believe Kaladin as well, think of a "raging storm" when they hold Stormlight. If we go with this interpretation, then "the storm responds" is merely a metaphor for Surgebinding.
  11. Regarding the Weeper, It could be very well be something as small as the fact that this is a draft.
  12. In a way, Amaram got Tien killed, despite his promise to Kaladin to keep the kid out of the front lines.
  13. Oh, nice. I will have to listen to the Audible versions (in full) sometime too, for maximum Brandon experience!
  14. I just thought of something. Would a tinfoil hat actually work against Ruin?
  15. That's interesting - I was pretty happy with the voice acting. Yes, some things were exaggerated, but overall the Graphic Audio books have really given me a brand new way of experiencing Brandon's books. I decided to listen to them again, and during the first two hours of Elantris, I definitely felt the goosebumps on at least four occasions. And Vasher's voice in Warbreaker is half the reason I listened to that one in the first place - I would seriously consider doing some really bad and illegal things for a voice like that... His "lecture" on BioChroma was one of the most anticipated scenes there for me. @chronotrigger, you can listen to samples of both Elantris and Warbreaker on their site, see if you like it, before buying or procuring them.
  16. There is also this argument, of course. Though I am working on a slightly different theory along similar lines. It might even see the light of day before the week is over...
  17. I was under the impression that all magic systems are universal. Some might be more difficult than others, but as long as you have the proper Investiture (or sDNA?), you can do anything anywhere - that's kind of the core of many Hoid theories. Or were you suggesting that anyone, regardless of Investiture, could grab a regular metal spike, stab a magic user of their world in the right place, and do Hemalurgy?
  18. It's possible. The last sentence strongly suggests Jezrien, but the rest could be interpreted alternatively (assuming this is Jezrien). "I stand against the one who saved my life" could refer to another Herald, one who has saved the Stormfather's life; it's not a stretch of the imagination, they probably save each others' lives all the time during Desolations. "I protect the one who killed my promises" is a little more difficult though. It could also refer to a Herald - Ishar actually comes to mind, because the Way of Kings prelude names him as the one to suggest they abandon Talenel and the Oathpact. Or it could be more metaphorical, since those pre-death quotes usually are; it could mean that by his inaction, his abandonment of the Oathpact, he protects Odium.
  19. Wow, you got a lot of people on that signing... I need to reread the Kaladin flashback scene. It's theorytime!
  20. Wow. I saw your Renarin drawing somewhere, and I think I assumed I had seen everything else you have done for the Cosmere. Never have I been so wrong... I just went through your Tumblr, and I am pretty pleasantly surprised. Both you and Botanica Xu have very similar idea for Shallan, and something in in this image of Shallan that kicks my primal protective instinct into an overdrive. Kicks it hard. I now want to date a drawing. Congratulations, you two have probably ruined my life! But other than Shallan, everything else is pretty stunning. Jasnah in particular is incredible, and this Kaladin is just perfect. Angry Szeth here is a little weird to me (I think it's the eyebrows), but the middle on is spot on; I think you got the child-like look on his face, which is probably his most distinguishing feature. Now you just need to forfeit everything else in your life and just drawdrawdraw!
  21. Oh, sorry about that. If it's any consolation, it's a very minor thing.
  22. Minor WoR spoiler ahead. EDIT: I just noticed that my phone turned "rogue Parshendi faction" into "rigid Parshendi gain." I trusted you, phone! It took me a full minute to figure out what I had originally wanted to say...
  23. This is still in line with (most of) my theory Though I probably should've listed this scenario explicitly...
