  1. Two points against Nazh being Galladon: When translating his infamous sul, Galladon uses just "friend," not "my friend." For example "“The day is right, friend,” Grump said. “But we were to meet at noon. Understand?” He generally did most of the talking." Ishikk thinks of them as Makabaki, because of their dark skin. Wouldn't a Makabaki ardent stand out in the Alethi warcamps? Do the Makabaki even become ardents? From what we've seen in Azir and Emul (two of the modern-day kingdoms that stand on the land that used to be Makabakam), it doesn't look like they follow Vorinism at all. And aren't ardents strictly Vorin?
  2. You are referring to the one pictured here, yes? I don't think the number is significant, though it's interesting that they are (almost?) all different.
  3. There was rain when Tien died. But I don't know if that was regular rain or just the drizzle after a highstorm.
  4. This is a good question. I don't think I've seen normal rain.
  5. It's mostly fanart and fangirling over Renarin. And Shallan.
  6. Or even better, Renarin dies. Boy, will that instantaneously spawn pitchforks all over Tumblr.
  7. Oh, I see what you are saying. The /?p=5546 at the end of the URL gets replaced by /shardhunt-wor. I only looked at the actual page, which looked like any other 404 on his site.
  8. Was I the only one not aware that Brandon has a short story, presumably about The Stormlight Archive's Rysn, in John Joseph Adams' anthology Epic: Legends of Fantasy? How have I not seen this discussed here? ... Neeevermind. Looks like this is just Rysn's interlude from The Way of Kings. I'll post the topic, so there is some mention of the anthology, but it's no longer worthy of hype Other than maybe noting how some of those interludes (first Rysn, and now Lift) are strong enough to essentially turn them into standalone short stories Brandon could use to break into various markets.
  9. Ah, well. This is the kind of annoyance authors want from their readers. Eliciting reaction and response to the characters means you are invested in them, which is a good thing. But it sure doesn't feel good sometimes
  10. Well, assuming Satsuoni is not just trolling us with a random URL, I expect you'll need one of the codes found on the Szeth die-cut cards, which Brandon will hand out during the Words of Radiance tour. Chances are he (?) just noticed the new page come up for a brief moment. *fistshake at semi-ninja*
  11. I don't think that's a likely path. The point I take from this similarity is that the Radiant orders' symbols are simply Alethi (?) script for... something. Their names, perhaps. Same alphabet and all that.
  12. Kaladin does not have a mullet. If you think he does, you have never been truly exposed to the horrors of what a real mullet looks like.
  13. If you are like most of the Chinese girls I've met in the US, you might need a dedicated backpack just to carry Words of Radiance around...
  14. Well. Regarding bad decisions (because I recently listened to the Writing Excuses episode about that again) - it can be fine. We, humans, are not exactly the most rational beings one can think of, and as a part of that, sometimes we act irrationally. We make bad decisions, and sometimes we are even aware that the choice we are making is poor one. We do it anyway. And that's when we are aware of the situation - imagine how many bad decisions every one of us must've made without even knowing about them. So I think it's fine if the characters in a book screw up every now and then. As long as their actions are justified (in their own head), make sense, and are in line with who they are, it's all good.
  15. Tien in armor is adorbs
  16. Careful. I personally wouldn't care, but others might, so reply in PMs only.
  17. Oh, you know what I wonder? I wonder if some part of her childhood, something vaguely referenced in The Way of Kings, is not in fact an illusion she wasn't aware she had created.
  18. The shivers are getting kind of bad...
  19. I believe it has. The answer was either RAFO or "kind of" or something like that.
  20. Technically, it's neither. The resemblance to crown, or tower, or shield, or whathaveyou, is up to the artist - the glyphs themselves don't resemble anything intentionally.
  21. I imagine all the Shardworlds have slightly different length for days (the time for the planet to fully rotate along its axis) and years (the time it takes the planet to complete one revolution around its star). It would be cosmologically extremely unlikely for all the Shardworlds to be identical in this regard. But keeping the numbers close to 24-hour days and 365*24-hour years is reasonable. With around 8,760 (deal with it, people who use , for decimals, this is almost 9k, not 9!) Earth hours in each year, Brandon has plenty of freedom to design his clocks and calendars in ways that fit his worlds, and still keep time Earth-like enough, so that the reader doesn't get confused (Lift, for example, is 13 Rosharan years old, but that makes her almost 15 by our standards; a noticeable difference, but not a dramatic one). Roshar, for example, is a world where the influence of the number 10 is quite strong, so it makes sense for the calendar to be designed around that. (10 months) x (5 weeks / month) x (10 days / week) x (~20 Earth hours / day) ~ 10,000 Earth hours / year. In other words, well within the "Earth-like enough", only about 15% longer. If Brandon had chosen to use the number 10 around, so each month to have 10 weeks, instead of 5 (which would've "made much more sense" in Roshar), he either would've had to halve the length of his day (which would feel weird to the readers, 10-hour for each day-night cycle?) or he would've had to make the year much much longer than Earth's. Which wouldn't have felt as weird, but still... I can't think of any other world's calendar off the top of my head, but I expect they too are designed uniquely and perhaps with some special numbers in mind (maybe 16 on Scadrial?). And since this is a welcome thread, welcome!

  23. I doubt they will pick - or Brandon will answer - questions from the deep lore. Interviews like this one tend to ask questions casual(-ish) readers would either ask or would like answered.
  24. Doesn't feel right. Ym's account of his encounter with Darkness didn't have anything like the same feel.
