  1. Do we know that the "Survival Shard" is on Ashyn?
  2. Considering that the Radiants are the result of some of the spren deciding to imitate what Honor did with his Heralds, it's probably safe to assume that there was a period in history during which the Heralds existed, but the Radiants did not. If Nalan is right, how does he explain the Desolations during this period? Or were there no Desolations until the Radiants showed up? Or do they merely accelerate the rate at which the Desolations come? The latter could be on the right track - the Radiants have been missing for a very long time, and the time between the last Desolation and the Last Desolation is also much longer than the usual.
  3. I don't see Rysn as a main character, not at her current stage. She is interesting, and we get to see the fun parts of the world through her eyes, but right now she is an apprentice and stuck to her babsk. Not only that, but what is she going to do if she gets too many chapters of her own? Trade with everyone? No, she will need to become much more important before I agree to a book of her own.
  4. I think Kythis is concerned about maybe overlap in the flashbacks - because we'll see both Dalinar's and Renarin's past. But I believe it will be fine - especially since Dalinar's flashbacks will happen in the first five-book arc, and Renarin's - in the second one.
  5. Right, but Harmony doesn't "tow chaos behind." The general understanding is that the Words of Radiance letter is a reply by the recipient of The Way of Kings letter. So, in TWoK Hoid sends a letter to an acquaintance of his (whom we know to be a dragon), and now in WoR this acquaintance replies. And honestly, nothing suggests otherwise. P.S. There are several other threads - mostly in the Words of Radiance forum - that talk about this letter. Let's all try to keep the discussion concise.
  6. Anything could happen.
  7. The reason I was vague about it so so we don't keep spoiling this forum, happyman Could you please edit your post so you don't reveal half of the circumstances around Szeth's Truthlessness?
  8. Is this spelling confirmed?
  9. I've always thought of Hoid as being most in line with a Shard like "Storytelling" or "Lore" or something along those lines. Yes, he travels and meddles, but a storyteller is really what he is.
  10. Oh, I still need to listen to that reading from Silence Divine... But I was going to say, Rosharan - or Vorin, at least - lore claims that the humans got kicked out of the Tranquiline Halls by the Voidbringers. Something called a Voidbringer is bound to do some nasty things to your home planet, especially if it comes in large numbers. And especially if there was a war.
  11. Brandon mentioned recently that any sufficiently large pile of Investiture will eventually gain sentience. I am paraphrasing here, but he said that even Endowment (Nalthis' Shard) were Splintered, it would still kind of reform eventually and people will start Returning again, but not exactly the same way.
  12. I am not sure if a categorization like this is a valid one. The Shards' power is mostly Spiritual, and they can affect the physical realm, but beyond that... I don't know, it's late, but I don't feel putting them in groups like this is any more valid than saying that certain people are physical, cognitive, or spiritual. In fact, I think in the case of the Sixteen, it makes less sense to do so.
  13. I will have to agree with Kythis on this one - I see how it could be viewed as spoiler-free, but it's all a sensitive matter right now, and it could easily be seen as a spoiler. Could you change it something like "The Nature of Nightblood (WoR Spoilers)." Words of Radiance Spoilers
  14. A reminder that it's not necessary for a flashback character (Kaladin in TWoK, Shallan in WoR) to be alive during his or her book. We've been told that Kaladin will likely get a second book (i.e. there will be another book with flashback chapters from his point of view), but that doesn't guarantee that he will be alive in said book.
  15. Oooh, now I have to wonder whether women can feel the Thrill.
  16. Huh. It's interesting that Warbreaker was written for Zahel, as opposed to Zahel making a cameo because of Warbreaker.
  17. Perhaps. But I think a planet that orbits its star so quickly wouldn't look as... normal as Sel does. I would look for the significance somewhere else, perhaps in history.
  18. This could be very useful with all those threads popping left and right...
  19. Is Lopen this young? I was talking with a friend about him, and my gut feeling was that he was in high twenties / low thirties.
  20. Well, in all fairness, I think Adolin was just surprised that Szeth could Lash inanimate objects as well - he had already seen the Assassin in White throw himself and other people around, but not objects, I think. Still, it's very very likely that Zahel / Vasher will be able to Awaken using Stormlight. Which is potentially scary powerful.
  21. I had a theory... somewhere a while back... that this is what I called a voidsphere - a gem, perhaps not one of the ten standard ones, that holds a voidspren. This was all when we only had The Way of Kings to work with, but I I don't see a reason to discard the idea. We know that: Gavilar wanted to bring the Parshendi gods back - it's why he was assassinated; he mistakenly thought that Parshendi would be excited about the idea... gems can hold spren specific gems are required for specific spren there are spren of Honor, Cultivation, Adonalsium, and a mix of the first two as of Words of Radiance, we know that there are voidspren - which, in all likelihood, are spren of Odium, his Splinters. So that's what I'll continue rooting for. Gavilar, somehow, came into possession of a sphere that held one of the voidspren - perhaps even a special type, maybe even one of the Parshendi gods (my assumption here is that they are really powerful spren or the Unmade, but it's a flimsy assumption). He shared the idea with the Parshendi sometime during the feast or a little before it, and the Five felt that they needed to act quickly and remove the possibility. What I am still bothered by is why they told Szeth nothing about this. If they were worried about Gavilar using the voidsphere somehow, why didn't they instruct Szeth to bring it to them if he found it somewhere? I realize that it was highly unlikely that Gavilar would just hand it to his assassin, but I would've said something like "kill Gavilar and if you stumbled upon a sphere that glows with black light, bring it to us." Or toss it in the ocean or something.
  22. Why would Syl dislike an Honorblade wielder? Those, as far as we know, are not "made of" dead spren - which is what she hates about regular Shardblades.
