New Szeth Shirt [Words of Radiance Spoilers]
Argent replied to Newan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
If you - like I - hadn't noticed, the (not quite?) final Vin t-shirt design is in: http://store.brandonsanderson.com/vin-t-shirt/- 27 replies

I felt like a progression to me. King was better than Prince, Emperor was better than King. My main issue with King of Thorns was the jagged narrative - I mentioned it somewhere (in my Goodreads review, maybe?), but it took some time getting used to the three - four, really - timelines. Finished Prince of Fools a couple of days ago. I definitely liked it better than Prince of Thorns, but it's still not quite a 5-star book for me. I also wish there was more Builders lore in it... after Jorg running into Builders' technology every few chapters, barely seeing any throughout the entire book left me wanting Reading The Way of Kings 2002 from Altered Perceptions now.

I don't know, it's... not very prophetic. If there were seven types of rings, maybe I could buy this - but we only know of iron, silver, gold, bone, and maybe wood. Five is not that far away from seven, but it's far enough away.

I think I am mostly with @Outis in this one - very well presented theory, but there is at least one fundamental point I disagree with. Let me address this in a similarly organized fashion: "Spren exist that are known splinters of Honor (eg. Syl), and they refer to themselves as honorspren." "Spren exist that are known to be of Cultivation (eg. Wyndle), but have not explicitly identified themselves as cultivationspren." → "Spren of Odium would be known as Odiumspren, not Voidspren" The predicates are absolutely true, but I don't think this is enough to make the logical connection in the conclusion. As you pointed out, there is at least one spren of Cultivation who doesn't identify himself as cultivationspren. At best, in this case, you have 50% chance of being correct on this account. In fact, considering how full of exceptions the rules regarding the spren are, these days I am very hesitant to draw definitive conclusions. We (pretty much) know that one of the ways to divide the magic systems on Roshar is to split them into Surgebinding, Voidbinding, and something-else-which-we-suspect-is-the-Old-Magic. The Voidbringers (who probably Voidbind) are the Desolations are very closely related, and every bit of lore we have points to the Desolations being instruments of Odium - therefore the Voidbringers are very likely his as well, thus establishing a relationship between Odium and the concept of the Void. "Adonalsium was shattered intentionally as a response to an opposing force – the Void..." Already you are assuming "the Void" exists. For all we know, this opposing force could be something called Muislanoda, and be completely independent of and unrelated to that Void you talk about in your first big point. I find this particular conclusion the least based on evidence - the existence of a malevolent force opposing Adonalsium does not mean this force is called "the Void," and if that was its name, assuming this Void is the same as the Rosharan Void is... well, not founded in reality. "Both Hoid and the dragon that he is in correspondence with were present at the shattering, and had some input in the creation of the resulting Shards" "I believe that the dragon is in fact a Shardholder, as Hoid would most likely be trying to recruit other eminently powerful entities in order to counter the actions of Odium" Maybe - probably, - but what does that have to do with anything you've mentioned before? All this being said, though, I do like the idea of Odium being the minor villain of The Stormlight Archive. Considering how much he has done on the universal scale, and how early we are in the Cosmere Saga (totally ™), I doubt "minor" will be a word we could apply to him, but still I like it.

Ah, time for my monthly update! I did finish Peter V. Brett's The Daylight War and found it largely more of the same. Better than the previous book, maybe better than The Warded Man, but still mostly the same style, the same form. I don't know how I feel about that. On one hand, it's good - people who liked the previous books will like this one as well. On the other... I didn't like the previous books too much. So there's that. Since then I've been eating The Broken Empire series. The Prince of Thorns, Select Mode (short story), The King of Thorns, Sleeping Beauty, and finally The Emperor of Thorns. I liked the series as a whole, but I think I liked the short stories better. Plus, confusing timelines are confusing. If nothing else though, I am glad I read them because they led me to Mark Lawrence's website, and this guy posts sharp stuff there. And speaking of Mark Lawrence, I decided to just finish him up and read Prince of Fools. Which is not working too well for me because a new expansion for World of Warcraft came out last week...

Sounds like a win-win situation. Either the info is even juicier than expected, or Weiry eats a hat. -
Guys. Let's keep the book-specific discussions in their respective forums - both your posts are pretty spoilery.

Not for the last part.

I wonder of Breaths themselves could be considered a biochromatic manifestation... Type 0, if you will.

I will greet instead of ignore. I will bring users together. -
A (2D) projection of a (3D) cross-section of a (4D) Julia set, but right. A cool mathematical construct.

To each their own, I guess. Go finish the book, don't dance around spoilers

Nope There was no CAPTCHA

It was Kaladin first encounter with death he couldn't prevent. Pretty traumatic.

Looking at the German Amazon page for Brandon (and Google Translate), I guess it's The Storm of Wrath - the Everstorm, presumably.

That's what I thought at first too, but everywhere I've seen The Way of Kings (and Words of Radiance) split into two books, they just label them The Way of Kings (Part) I and The Way of Kings (Part) II, followed by Words of Radiance (Part) I and II. But it does make some sense to just call WoR1 Stormlight Archive 3 - it's wrong, but I could see it happening.
-
Words of Radiance, as it is known in English, is the second novel of the Stormlight Archive series. I don't know why this site lists as the third, but it shouldn't. The third volume, with working title of Stones Unhallowed or maybe Skybreaker, hasn't been written yet.

Because we'll do this - let's not turn this into a discussion about what would and wouldn't work with Awakening. I assume this is a fun and casual thread, not a discussion about how magic works. So let's pretend all Commands are valid, unless they are completely outrageous.

It's too arbitrary. It's not a bad choice, but there are better ones - for which we don't know exact dates - so I wouldn't want us to adopt this calendar only to have it replaced by a new one several years down the line. Until the Shardworlds start to mingle, I think we should avoid a more universal calendar.
