When Brandon summons his Shardpen, it changes color.

I've had this headcanon that Lutha was a lover, or at least some kind of love interest, of Rashek. Doesn't fit as well with Brandon's silence on the topic, but it's the first thing I thought of when I first read the confirmation that Luthadel was named after a person. New batch, because The Man is physically incapable of not writing: http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfnuxq?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfqbm7?context=10000 Regarding the mist spirit: my understanding is that the reason he is not a Cognitive Shadow exactly is because Leras never actually died (not until The Hero of Ages, at least). He gave up much of his power and mind to trap Ruin in the Well, but didn't actually die. So what we are seeing is more of a Shard Shadow than Cognitive Shadow, by my reading. http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfq5vz?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfpbql?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfo47g?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfo0o1?context=10000 (This is Axies' - presumably - question about accessing the Dor remotely) http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfnz9x?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crfnwsb?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/brandonsanderson/comments/36nm0y/stepping_further_into_the_cosmere_after_the/crfnwjv?context=10000

Bastille looks like somebody who is there to kick... well, things. All the things. I am really lovin' it all!

Terrible. The Reckonverse is a scary place. But. By the powers of RSS, Feedly, and IFTTT, I now receive notifications for everything Brandon posts on Reddit. It's not instant because Reddit is silly, but it's something. Also, it looks like 3 other people had the same idea... So. I am linking entire threads because linking individual replies with only their parent is often poor context. http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crenyoo?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crew6nx?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/creu9se?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crei05j?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crehyy0?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crecszg?context=10000 http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crecqwi?context=10000 I am legitimately giddy with how many replies we've gotten from that AMA so far.

Man, I thought I was in the minority for adoring Mizzy. There are many things I love many of the others, but she wins me, hands down.

You are trying to logic my headcanon, but all I am hearing is "I wish I had come up with this insanity first!"

At least one of David's parents was an Epic, this is now 140% confirmed. I will cannon you in the head if you disagree.

Oh, did I. Let's see. Cal. I was really happy with how he turned out to be. I've been anti-Cal for a very long time, but they sold me on his... redemption, if you will, arc. Coulson. I didn't think would kill him, so I wasn't too worried when he got infested by the mists. I thought for a moment they would turn him into an Inhuman, but that thought didn't have enough time to develop because he got axed pretty quickly. I approve, main characters don't usually get... hampered like this on TV. Skye turning into an Inhuman was a big change, but it was ultimately a development; Coulson losing an arm probably won't affect him that much, he doesn't go into the field that often, but it's still a bold move. Skye. Not much to talk about her, I don't think. I love watching people with superpowers, so her planting her feet firmly in SHIELD hopefully means we'll get more of Quake in future seasons. Melinda... I am glad about the direction she is going. It was fun watching her kicking her way through her problems, but it always bothered me that she was, or at least behaved like, emotionally crippled. Plus, her husband is a pretty rad psychologist - psychiatrist? - and I would like to see him again in the future. Ward resurrecting Hydra... This could have implications for future movies too. And after two seasons, he is still a mystery to me. But most important of all - SIMMONS! FITZ! Comeee ooon! I've been shipping them so hard, it's a wonder they didn't just hitch a ride away from that troublesome situation they found themselves in in the end of the first season. If I have to be objective, Gemma's came out a little strongly, I didn't feel that her feelings were quite there yet. Still, I take it. Or I would've if they hadn't done I don't even know what to her! I don't really believe she is gone, not forever, but I don't know how, when, and in what shape she'll come back...

What Does Your Brandon Sanderson Collection Look Like?
Argent replied to Jsin82's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Right now mine looks like a bunch of boxes... -
To make things even better, universities often consist of multiple colleges. So while I officially went to the Illinois Institute of Technology (a university), I was enrolled in the College of Science and Letters there (which was responsible for science majors, more or less), instead of the Kent College of Law, or the College of Arts and Sciences.

So, it looks like so far I am alone in the "recently (but not too recently) graduated" demographic for now. I earned my Master's* degree almost exactly two years ago. *Fun bit of trivia - in my native language a Master's degree would translate as Magister's degree. Which sounds much cooler to me (in English).
-
That's actually kind of meta.
-
I can't believe you didn't make a Stormlight pun somewhere in there...
-
Definitely.

I used to be in the camp of people who found the language shift a little too sudden, but now that I think about it, languages evolve quickly and all the time. Think about how many words have come into existence because of the Internet in the last few years. Five years ago nobody would've thought that "to swipe right" will be used as a synonym for "to like". Google has been around for, what, a couple of decades and its name is already as a verb ("to search (online)") more often than as a noun. So yea, I can see a few words making their way into the post-Calamity Reckonverse over the course of 20 years or so.

I also loved it. Can't imagine why anyone would rate it as low as one star. Even if you don't like the premise and the genre, it's not a bad book, by any standard.

Small Gods is one of the few Pratchett books I know I've read. The thing is, I read a bunch of them many many years ago, and so I barely remember the main characters, let alone the plot. As a tribute, of sorts, to Pratchett I am (re)reading everything now, and so I'll get to Small Gods in due time. I think City Watch > Witches > Tiffany whatever-her-name-is > Death is how I am going to (re)read the series.
-
Done with The Last Hero. Was very happy with it. Reading Unseen Academicals, which unless I am mistaken, is the last Rincewind book. I am debating whether to read the City Watch or the witches sub-series next. I am leaning towards City Watch.
-
It's okay, I felt similarly during most of the first book. I thought the second one was a bit of a letdown, but for entirely different reasons. The third one was an improvement over the second one overall, with strong ending. I am not unhappy I read the series, though at times it didn't feel the most exciting or original literature in the world...
-
This is pretty much it, only I believe Lev Grossman did it not as a ripoff, but to show a different direction the genre can take tropes that have become standard by now (e.g. the school of magic, the chosen one, the secret world, etc). I don't know if it has become evident yet, but by the time you finish the first book you should realize that this is not another Harry Potter or Narnia book. It takes those series, kicks them in the genital area, and then proceeds to kick them in the kidneys. Repeatedly.

Brandon Sanderson: Pioneer Extraodinaire
Argent replied to ElusiveWorldhopper's topic in General Brandon Discussion
The dominant form of address is simply Brandon. Those of us coming from less... casual families and/or countries go with Mr. Sanderson. Yog-Sothoth is... frowned upon, we are reluctant to shatter the illusion of humanity surrounding Him. -
You've grown very fond of this phrase.
