You could ask the same question for why he even let himself be seen, and even stared Tresting down defiantly though, right? Like if he was being careful and calculated, having a stare down with Tresting while an obligator was there is a risky move with no real reward. I think Kelsier just likes the theatrics and enjoys playing with nobles out of a pure loathing for what they do and represent. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that while he was in the act of defying (and almost challenging / inviting Tresting to respond) that he would stoke the emotional flames a little and make him feel that chill of terror that goes down his spine.

The Battle for the Sandwich
CognitiveShadow replied to AltonicKeys's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I hire a team of Swedish private investigators to study the ownership history, composition, dimensions, and investiture level of the sandwich. Then, I establish a crew- we rally the masses and form a revolution to share the sandwich. I hire a team of actors who all look vaguely like me and give them all printed out pictures of the sandwich, matching the same dimensions. As we gather for the ceremonial slicing of the sandwich to disperse among the angry mob, I cut the lights (we are in the dark) and my actors and I run off in different directions. I hide in the custodial closet of a planet fitness (to mask the smell) and hold the sandwich.- 13683 replies

That’s a great point! I’m not sure which version I like better- that we see examples of allomancy in very subtle ways without before it is explained, or the idea that some proper posture and a defiant smile were enough to rock a pre catecandre noble’s world. Plus it’s cool to think of Kelsier having that kind of effect without even using allomancy. And it’s interesting to think about Tresting thoughts, maybe he has some guilt tucked way back where he knows he’s a trash bag of a person

At the very beginning of the final empire, Tresting sees a Skaa who looks at him defiantly and smiles. He feels a chill of fear, then the Skaa disappears when he looks away. I think it’s fair to assume that is Kelsier, but do you think he used emotional allomancy to make Tresting feel the fear that he did? I’m assuming yes, but it’s just cool that Brandon weaves that in without calling any of it out before the reader even has any idea what it means. Makes that kind of thing stand out in a re read

Hey what do you know, it worked! I think you have a point here, that point being that we have no real ideal how this is all gonna shape out haha but yeah I totally get what you’re saying. Given that Ado was THE god of the entire cosmere, he’d be part of everything. Kind of like how there are bits of ruin and preservation in everyone on scadrial. I could see it being more foundational or fundamental like you’ve pointed out
-
Wow lots to think about there! Really interesting…. Hopefully we get some additional insights on like breaking up or combining metals in the lost metal in a couple weeks!
-
That makes sense, seems more likely to be corrupted harmonium or autonomy’s godmetal
-
Yeah that’s a good point, already did that one in RoW
-
Yeah I get that, but what does Hoid want then? Just to get as much power as possible without strings attached? Gain connection to as many shards as possible? Just out there living his best life and looking for opportunities to get payback on people like Rayse and Bavadin from back in the day?
-
Wow that’s interesting, it sounds very shardbladey, I wonder if it stays as is or if Brando cannibalized some of that for stormlight? Either way I’m excited to see dragons get involved here haha
-
That would be crazy, and it would actually make sense too. If people can figure out how to combine godmetals, they could get them all together in one and see what it does. Curious that Hoid hasn’t been doing anything like this, just been trying to pick up all the magical abilities associated with each one…?
-
I like that, so maybe Adonalsiums intent was like “exalt” or something like that?
-
I think it makes sense? But then again it’d be hard to make the two meet each other and have a similar investiture / anti-investiture relationship that we’ve seen in RoW. Which makes me wonder if it’s something different. Maybe Trellium is anti-Harmonium?
-
AMEN. Plain and simple.
-
Whoah interesting! I’ve never had a chance to read Dragonsteel prime. What does the dragonsteel do in that book? I wonder how dragons play into it all, maybe they had a special tie to Adonalsium or something?
-
All good points, I would assume that the Shards are the way they are because they follow how Adonalsium operated in some kind of pattern. Definitely worth keeping in mind that Ado was a whole heck of a lot different than the people running the show these days. It makes sense that Yolen and a combination of the other godmetals would have / create his metal though. I like that. But what would it do?
-
Lol that did it! Slept like a baby knowing that it’s actually possible we eventually find out His god metal is Adonalsiumsium haha
-
Could be! Maybe it’s Discordium? And Harmony is secretly having a “Fight Club” problem with himself, going behind his own back and switching between acting as Harmony and Discord and losing his memory? but not sure this all makes sense with the off world Trell lovers we’ve seen
-
Yeah this is totally possible, it would make a lot of sense too. But does it have to be Odium corrupting the Harmonium? I know we’ve seen him do that previously, but it could still be Autonomy right?
-
Maybe discordium is the explosion you get when harmonium destabilizes?
-
So assuming Adonalsium operated in a similar way as His shards that we see in the cosmere… he’d have a god metal right? Would it be called adonalsiumium? Or is the name Adonalsium a reference to the god metal and His name is actually just Adonals? These are the questions keeping me up at night.
-
Yeah good questions! It’s tough to say for sure, like we never saw lerasium and atium interacting together right? I’d assume that they don’t just naturally join together, but their intents probably have some kind of reaction. I’d imagine that it varies between each shard and how their intents come into contact. Stormlight and voidlight could be a similar point of reference in this regard- they are not true opposites, but they do interact like water and oil. So odium and honors investiture has that effect on each other. I believe the fused used raysium weapons right? Didn’t seem to have anything weird happen when raysium and shardblades met in combat. I think I lean towards this: trellium (autonomy) wants to be on its own, harmonium wants to be together, so the god metals just might combine together upon contact. I like your idea of the harmony’s intent driving towards combining naturally, but it probably depends on the intent of the other god metal. Not sure what that metal becomes… maybe peace metal or something like that? Some kind of nonintervention-ish, be in harmony with yourself but away from other things? So then THAT is the “right” metal that was referenced in the note from Harmony. of course everything is weird because the metals are hemelurgic spikes so who knows what that actually does to all of this super hypothetical and tenuous theorizing.
-
Oh oh or maybe it’s just more like Ruin and Preservation were sort of opposites in intent. Could see that as well.
-
Yeah I think you’re right, it’d be more of an opposite intent than an actual anti-investiture situation I think. Maybe their intents cancel each other out or something, but not sure what that would do?
-
Very good points! Another thought: is it the Trellium that is reacting to the harmonium? Two shards in one, two godmetals in one, sort of the anti-autonomy in some ways. Wonder if it could be similar to voidlight and anti void light…?
