  1. Lieutenant Jiang Zhangrong pivoted to face Gaovaris. "If you want to know what I know, then speak to me in private. I will be the judge of whether you deserve to know. Or do you want the only person I can trust stabbed and left to die in some dark corner of this compound?" They did not remain to hear an answer. Time slipped by, and they had little to show for it. As they reviewed their notes, they found themselves with mixed feelings. That duck wrangler seemed so relaxed and uncaring considering the circumstances, and the Yuen sympathizer seemed to have so many words without too much of substance. They did somewhat appreciate the farmer's approach to the situation, with questions and answers in abundance. Left and Right were trusted of the emperor, but they were traitors to one faction. They had shown nothing to provoke doubt, but it was best to be wary. Though it pained them to even think it, Ripling was... somewhat moving in the quality of his words. Though there was a lingering malcontent, their poetry was very nearly good. However, they were not in the habit of being moved by pretty words, and they would not start now. They sighed, rubbing at their eyes. How much of their suspicion was merely instinctual bias drawn to the forefront by paranoia? How much was rational, if any? How much could they trust themself?
  2. Lieutenant Jiang Zhangrong did not flinch as Randen's blood hit the floor. Others did, which reflected poorly on their discipline. Or their fear. It was almost a shame. Randen had been a decent enough fellow once you got past the cards and the anger issues. Or maybe that was sentiment talking now that Randen was no longer alive to remind them of why they had disliked him. The blood was beginning to dry, Perhaps it could serve as a reminder to those who were less dedicated to the cause. Rambleton was a mildly unusual choice of kill. Not the most vocal soldier, nor one with the Captain's favor in abundance. But then again, not one to draw the eyes of the crowd. Still, it was information that could be used. They were fortunate enough to be granted use of the Captain's ring in the moments between hours, though they would not share the information publicly to avoid the knives of the Loyalists. Perhaps in private, if any soldiers chose to approach them. Those who sought the knowledge of who had been searched would be noted for later examination. Over-eagerness was indicative, perhaps, of some dissident mission. Best to keep such information close to the chest.
  3. The final moments of the hour. Lieutenant Jiang Zhangrong had just minutes to attempt to maximize their favor with the Captain. Time slipped away, taking ragged flecks of Zhangrong's composure with it. They knew nothing. They were the lieutenant, and they knew nothing. But there was no time for hesitation. The Captain had placed a burden on their shoulders, and they would bear it. No more naps. No more frivolous panic. Calm. Glassy calm. The end of the hour approached, and they would see the result of their decisions. They would see who was chosen to die for their treachery. As long as they had a foundation of knowledge, they could build conclusions from it. It would be alright. They were not on the edge of a nervous breakdown. They could bear the burden placed upon them. All that was left to do was wait. Perhaps they could have done more. Perhaps they could have opened private communications with every soldier instead of succumbing to the sweet embrace of sleep. Perhaps they could have been a better lieutenant. But there was no time for regret. Time slipped away no matter how much people wished otherwise, and there was nothing they could do now. They had done everything they could.
  4. The hour was coming to a close all too quickly. Zhangrong's nap had been far too short for the rest they needed and far too long given the task at hand. Precious time dripping through the clock, and they had no leads. No true suspicions. That damn heart of theirs, always leading them astray. They were the second in command. They had to be the best of the best, with walls of steel between emotion and reason. But they were not. Some soldiers were even still asleep, which was a quick way to earn their ire. Others still were hard to read behind a calm veneer of placid responses. The duck wrangler in particular had their hackles rising for no particular reason, and untangling true distrust from instinctual distaste was a difficult task. But they had not earned the rank of lieutenant for nothing, and they would succeed in this task as they had all tasks before or perish in the valiant attempt. They would succeed. There was still the question of who would be granted use of the Captain's signet ring. Only a few had been present enough to earn the Captain's favor, and they still could not trust much of anything. But they would endure.
  5. The hour was already half over, and Lieutenant Jiang Zhangrong had not yet communicated privately with every soldier. The clock conspired against them. With a sigh, they set aside their list of remaining soldiers. If any wished to speak to them in private, let them approach. In a choice between pulling every soldier aside and focusing on the case at hand, they would have to choose the latter. Perhaps in the next hour, after a well-needed moment to simply breathe. Perhaps they were not handling the pressure with the grace and elegance expected of a proper lieutenant. It was difficult to see their fellow soldiers through the lens of suspicion. Discerning what was individual quirks and what was an indication of treachery was perhaps a task better suited for one more enlightened in matters of the mind. It was particularly difficult to discern an instinctive distaste for those they thought unfit to be soldiers from genuine suspicion, as was the case with the soldiers who had possibly stopped playing cards at last, as well as with the farmer. They would have to examine their notes of past statements in more detail and find connections. But they were tired, and the hour was late, and it would be better to succumb to sleep earlier in the night. Just a quick nap...
  6. Lieutenant Jiang Zhangrong began their second sweep of the building. Most still lingered near their original positions, but some had shifted slightly, as though they had left and returned. Perhaps to the toilets, but perhaps to a more nefarious location. It was impossible to know a man's heart without seeking it. Unrooting treachery would take a more personal approach. The compound had far too many corners away from prying eyes and listening ears. A gilded knife. Still fatal, but worth something. They could communicate privately with the soldiers and possibly unearth the rot in their hearts. Any who were reticent would be noted as such. The more people they could trust, the better. But they would have to be wary. They knew their own heart. They knew well their tendency to throw in their lot at the slightest affection. They could not trust their heart. They could only trust the shining chains of logic. To speak to the others in private was to jeopardize their mind. But it would be done. Their knowledge of positioning was worthwhile. They would be able to locate and isolate each soldier. It would not quite be an interrogation. Such tactics would only serve to create distance. But it would not be the warm regard of trust.
  7. Lieutenant Jiang Zhangrong marched through the compound, noting positions of each soldier. There were ten others within the building. Ten people shrouded in treachery. As lieutenant, it was their personal responsibility to find the traitor, no matter how many died in the attempt. So many were dedicated to frivolity. Gaovaris, Mallard, and Randen were playing cards instead of remaining on alert. Others still were jovial despite the significance of the task at hand. This was a game of lives played for the fate of the empire. Some did not seem concerned in the slightest, as though the Rose Empire was of no import. To be second in command is to be first to die when failure holds a knife to the throat. Better to be shattered jade than unbroken pottery. Better to die for duty than live in dereliction. Ten soldiers. Ten possible traitors. The Yuen Loyalists could claim the compound once they matched faithful soldiers in number. Though Zhangrong would fight to the best of their ability, others were not nearly so trained. With two Yuen Loyalists and complete failure, everything would be over in four hours. With three Yuen Loyalists, three hours. Better to assume the worst and be pleasantly surprised than to assume the best and be caught off guard. Three traitors. Three hours. Time clung to their throat like a noose, tightening with every drip of the water clock. It would be so easy if the Captain would allow them to search everyone's belongings, but of course, the Captain had no proof of trust, even for a faithful lieutenant who had served for many years. Far too easy for a traitor with the ring to plant evidence in people's belongings. They had to keep the Captain's ear. The fate of the empire rested on their shoulders. They would not bend. They would not break.
  8. Lieutenant Jiang Zhangrong saluted the Captain and turned to face their fellow soldiers. So many were better suited for the pen than the sword, and some seemed a little... undedicated to the cause. They would never accuse someone of treachery without convincing evidence, but some soldiers clung to the ideals of other factions. Any one of them could be the killer. Not even those who seemed most loyal could be truly trusted. Zhangrong had broken bread with these soldiers. They had lived around these soldiers for a long time. Disloyalty had not been a shadow in the back of the mind. Until now. Until the ambassador lay dead despite, and perhaps because of, the actions of the guard. They would do what they could. They would do what they must.
  9. Hi Ive come down with the plague its not that bad but thinky thoughts is hard um yes I was roleblocked and honestly Ive been convinced TJs evil for a while so um yeah it looks like itll be me on the block today and thats fine um Im roleless no items so no action accountibility or anything for some reason Im trusting Ashbringer and Illwei so looking outside of the pool of mechanical accountilibty for me I think I might take a nap the plague is hard bye bye Ni sucuyi gar kyradyc ni partayli gar darasuum Kasimir dont know how much Ill be able to avenge you but Ill make my best effort while Im alive
  10. Ok I think you misinterpreted what I said easy to do phraisng was bad sorry so wha I was saying there was Amanuensis was using Aloha to conditionally suspect people and theorize team stuff and all that so Aloha looked a bit village and someone in that big web of Aloha branch connections was probably evil also sorry for not being active checked in all that its exam week but like after Friday Ill exist more promise
  11. @Elandera does silver bones dont trigger broken survivors if attacked apply to attacks that arent survived by silver bones cause like the wording seems to imply it Cause like given Devotary roleblocked Amanuensis Kasimir broken survivors makes sense they werent attacked but were saved still but like does silver bones apply generally to all attacks survived by protection too or just to the silver bones extra life
  12. Amanuensis posts by turn D1 existence post says voice has no inherent side bias more voice commentary vote count and poke banter snap vote on Aloha banter vote count more banter more banter excuse sown lack of motivation as mix of no gambit opps and writing drive lampshades jumping on Kasimirs reads as a failsafe notes possible evilness team of Novel and Aloha banter notes possible Ashbringer defense of Aloha banter banter says deTess implied as counterwagon implicating Matrim and Sart with Archer and Aloha sa subsiduaries with want for Matrim then elaborates psecifically Sart acting to defend Archer or Aloha or Matrim doing the same so not evil together banter self vote then votes Matrim definition banter null read on Araris with better null for TJ and worse null for Archer defends Araris when pressed banter Matrim as final vote vote count question Vote count from D1 So from this I think we can solidly conclude village Matrim like Id already thought that from the way it shook out but yeah they chained a lot of thoughts around Aloha being evil like the Ashbringer subsidiary the Novel chain the Sart and Matrim accusations so thinking slightly better of Aloha N1 banter Archer looks bad off that DeTess fine Second time theyve given DeTess a village read first time used as spring board to attack lots of other people this time again to implicate Archer D2 banter banter banter says less active cause no flip means no motivation ask for reminder banter vote count reads bucket relatively consistent off their posts from before with no reasoning grr ish responses yet another bit of suspicion on Sart and heres where the block claim comes out jumps to shade expert theory says 2 3 shade experts village side plus larger evil team banter claim Thief with silver dust apparently thought Matrim was shade expert banter doesnt read Matrim good considers Alvron good vibes was roleblocked still asserting shade expert theory math thoughts shades TJ evil if D1 was all V so after Archer banter new reads explains Ashbringer and Fae reads plus vote count more Matrim shade likes Illwei banter keeps going on the Matrim thoughts edited lamenting death slep Sart looks better off this um there is a thought about why a teammate didnt just claim shade expert cause like extra life doesnt get to say attacked and survived or anything so if they go insane they just say oop lost extra life or if not they just live forever off the oh evils odnt want to kill me cause of my extra life sorta thoughts especially since Amanuensis kept going on about shade expert theories and stuff like it couldve worked but maybe like they considered Amnauensis burned and had other alternatives for kills without dying to shades So yeah thats my thoughts my brains saying someone in the tangled mess of post Aloha suspicion is probably evil but not entirely sure who there wasnt a ton of meaningful interaction with people beyond questions so yeah Matrim Devotary good Aloha is like I mean they could have set up evil Aloha as a centerpiece in a cascading wave of misvotes but probably good Aloha Sart also here but I dont really remember anything Sart did so Ill have to look back again um my brain is rioting against DeTess for some reason but honestly it makes more sense if they use a villager as a springboard for suspicion than an evil they were wierdly focused on Ashbringer for some reason I think my brains run out of steam Im just going to post this Im tired
  13. Its always a sad time when I gotta vote Amanuensis heres a consolation quokka for either getting coincidentallly roleblocked as a villager or getting picked off by bad luck as evil but I lean towards the latter for you know all the mechanicals Math wise odds of one and only one person going insane is .95 ^ 16 * .05 * 17 about .374 odds of absolutely no one going insane is .95 ^ 17 about .418 and this is no iron will at all with more iron will these go up a bit but like honestly what reason to not kill name any reason why not killing helps if anything delaying makes it worse cause you give crossbows the chance to use the low percentage and make your numbers bad stop killing in the late game not now plus like if there was a protect they cant protect anymore should definitely claim cause like confirmed extra life villager evils trade value of death for value of knocking down confirmed but two takes sorta deal Listen Amanuensis I always want to trust you but the facts of the case are clear so yeah you can have the quokka in the picture to keep you company in the afterlife theyre a very good boy good at snuggles dont give them too many treats though
  14. Hey just popping in to say I have a concert tonight so I probably wont be able to get on later tonight sorry as consolation take this art I found of a quokka luxuriating on a hoard of watermelons no I dont know why watermelons I just found it in the quokka image search Ill skim the thread and if I have time Ill come back and give thoughts but its not likely bye bye
  15. If theres a writer out there who doesnt really want PMs can you give me one with a buddy pretty please if you do youll get an endorsement from quokka postal services slogan everythings better with a smile also voice in the crowd feels like the strategy is vote on the other train and have the secret vote then 80 chance you get net two movement and 20 you get one and I guess the thing is theres no other vote manip to hide it so if theres a dropoff its fairly obvious what people tried and like the outcome informs the interpretation on that The forest has a thousand eyes, and Jen could feel all of them as they tried to make it back home. They had recently been sleepwalking, ending up in the forest each night despite going so far as to tie one arm to the bed. Even in the best of circumstances, this could be deadly. One scrape against a tree branch, one drop of blood, and they would be dead before they could wake up. But with a cult roaming the trees and the constant humming they could just barely hear, it was even more dangerous. They just needed to get home. Their home had a line of silver dust at the door. They just needed to get home, and everything would be okay. They could ignore the eyes gleaming in the trees, moving as they moved. They just needed to get home.
  16. Just want to point out since deTess had no action and the Tineye action doesnt do anything C1 theres no reason why they wouldnt have made a PM while I submitted the kill like the only roleblocker did something else so yeah but its ok the quokkas that definitely exist and definitely depend on my life for continued food and shelter will probably forgive you when I dont return from this town see its smiling Im feeling Silhouette over Alpha cause of the way DeTess kept tying Silhouette to Stick and like a lot of the time there were bits where they didnt need to be tearing up Alphas statements and stuff like honestly in my heart I kinda suspect Alpha tonally just a little but Alpha feels more like post silhouette Stick vote cycles fall guy
  17. Hi I have like no time Im about to be driving for an hour but hi Im the Tineye scan showed the claimed PMs Im not evil so um yeah any questions in the five minutes before I go on the open road
  18. Hi ok Im sorry I have something tonight I have like no time right now like after tomorrow everything will be fine hopefully maybe possibly sorry I think Silhouette for now theres like a tiny tiny tiny chance I can get on like minutes before rollover but dont count on it so plan around me if you have a paradigm shift bye
  19. Ok rollovers not at a great time for me cause its like just long enough after I go to sleep its annoying to stay up and then Ive got school so yeah kind of grr but oh well here now and yeah I popped on a while ago just to like check my alignment and stuff but didnt really have time to say anything So alignment stuff honestly the evils stand to gain a little by letting the Mobberns gain ground against the village cause then the chances theres a backfire increase dramatically but thats the sort of trick that only works once and it means the village is fighting a war on two fronts so like the Mobbern evil alliance works best while Mobbern numbers are low which is like now wait hang on if the Mobbern dont know who each other are then couldnt you just like say oh hey I converted you to the Mobbern or wait do you get told when you convert you probably do never mind Honestly from the role names I feel like this was just an attempt to confuse us and it sure is working um do you have to submit an order to make a PM or can you just make one but then not take an action cause like if possible Id like to get talky talky
  20. Dont really know whats going on but take these quokkas for deployment in dangerous situations Heres one for when youre under heavy fire just be like 'who me' Heres one for happy friendly times Heres one for when youre getting away with mischief Heres one to give a big hug thats definitely not murder And heres one for when the murder really isnt going your way
  21. Honestly I think this game has solidly made me determine Im not great in endgame which I already knew but like more evidence I should have just shot TJ I was pretty much convinced after Ashbringers reaction to my ploy that apparently wouldnt have worked anyway so I really should have oh well probably would have turned out the same I was leaning Telrao over Wizard for team candidate And I really appreciate it youre the best Edit and my one contribution to the game this quokkamon
