  1. I'd say there is a rather large difference between people not remembering someone, vs. person being decades older then they should (or dead). Forgery must be plausible, otherwise it either does not take or it breaks easily.
  2. I think primary issue is that such Essence Mark would by necessity imply that the Slider is also young now, but at the same time cannot affect him. This might be rather large obstacle, because Essence Marks only rewrite what has been done to the object (or what the person specifically chose to do), and cannot change external things. So simply meeting the supposed Slider would break the Essence Mark. But Essence Mark saying you used charged Harmonium would be easier, though also rather fragile because getting your hands on such large amount of Harmonium is very unlikely, and Essence Marks are stronger the more likely they are.
  3. Kalad's Phantom no question (for me at least). Sure they probably require dozens of Breaths, however as a result they are faster, stronger and sturdier than Lifeless. In fact, they are so sturdy that they basically cannot be harmed by medieval weaponry. Single Kalad Phantom would probably destroy huge amount of Lifeless. At the end of Warbreaker Phantoms destroy far larger Lifeless army while suffering virtually no losses (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/250/#e7479). As a bodyguard they would be quite useful as well, as they are effectively bulletproof against small arms, and most likely could take few hits from larger calibers as well. You could command Phantom to simply pick up you up, shield you and carry you away and they would be quite likely to succeed. Depends on how much Breath is required to Awaken them, they can be as large as a horse. Also, though they would be more resilient to damage, they would have none of the combat instinct of Lifeless (if made from dead soldier), so they would probably require more hands-on commanding. They would be useful as smart 'traps' or sentries.
  4. True. I do expect Brandon to come up with some limitations, that is his core tenet for magic systems. But regarding Savantism, Feruchemical savantism most likely does not exist. So Spiritweb won't be distorted and should always snap back to Scadrian baseline. But Compounders can achieve such effects
  5. I am reasonably certain that after few centuries with genetic manipulation and Realmatics manipulation you could make something like that...for reasons Ah, interesting. Wonder why that is. But it would make Koloss-blooded lifeless a bit less noticeable compared to usual ones. Wonder you could give them Command to also fake breathing and mildy movements, to further mask their nature.
  6. Ah good point, I forgot insides would not be gray Though I will note that some amount of color is necessary, so if you had animal that was (outside and inside) gray, most people could not Awaken it.
  7. I'd say rather obvious, I imagine them basically as grayscale version of themselves. Plus they don't move at all unless performing their Commands, so they are unnaturally still. Yes, Koloss are quite clear blue, with red where skin is torn. Now they would be just grey. Those would be probably more difficult to recognize, however they might be difficult to Awaken. The color is drained from Lifeless to fuel the Awakening, so less color = more difficult Awakening. Like large lifeless horse. They would no longer have the bond to spren they have in life, and wouldn't be able to make new ones. (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/522/#e16238) To some extent yes, but they would be worse mount than a living horse. The skills of Lifeless seem to be always degraded compared to life (which makes sense, since only physical aspect of the being remains). Arsteel/Clod is also a bit more self-aware than most, because he Vasher infused him with a lot of Breaths moments before killing him, which probably won't happen with your horse. I don't think they would, or at least not very well. I'd say it would depend on Command given to them, but I would say they are rather "disciplined". I'd say no. Any and all interactions with Investiture require spiritweb to some extent, and Lifeless Larkin no longer has Larkin soul, just bunch of Breaths. With a lot of work you might be able to hack something together, but I would say it would same level of possibility/difficulty as trying to Awaken Chromium Misting corpse to be again Chromium Misting.
  8. I don't think so, at least not directly. However, faster burning of pewter would certainly increase the benefit (at the cost of running out faster).
  9. That...is not how brain works. At least I never heard anything about that, if that worked you would see people get smarter/think faster which just does not happen. True enough. I think especially storing Strength would be useful for Scadrians training to e.g fight on high-gravity worlds, to get used to how movement will be different.
  10. A-pewter seems to enhance basically every physical attribute of the body, but to different extents. You are stronger (the most pronounced effects), more durable (probably the second most noticeable effect), you don't tire, you have better sense of balance (and proprioception probably). You are also a bit faster (but apparently not too much), have better reflexes and heal a bit faster (but the increase is rather small). But you won't be able to store anything other than strength into F-Pewter. You will store a bit of speed into F-Steel mind, but frankly it won't be much different from regular person, speed is not doubled.
  11. For some I think it possible, but not for all. Strength - clearly possible, basically magical version of training with weighted vest Speed - not trainable, you won't magically become faster because you are forced to be slower. When storing you are sluggish and moving itself is simply difficult. Weight - nothing to train, but storing itself can be advantageous Senses - kinda trainable? You won't get better senses, but you might learn to better discern unclear input Mental speed - I don't think this is trainable. You quite literally become dumber, take longer to process what is happening around, won't be able to think properly etc. You can try to compensate for some of it, but those skills won't be very advantageous, and they won't effect what you are storing. Warmth - not trainable, or at least storing won't have any effect on trying to learn techniques to control your autonomous nervous system Memories - not trainable Wakefulness - maybe, kinda? Investiture - nothing to train Connections - nothing to train, at most you might overtime learn to be more persuasive, but that depends on how Connection works exactly Identity - nothing to train Fortune - you won't train Fortune, you might learn to be always on-guard, but hypervigilance is not a good thing Breath - trainable Energy (Bendalloy) - not trainable? Determination - might be somewhat trainable? depends on how it works Health - might be 'trainable' in the sense that you get infected more easily? but you get infected even when heatlhy, you just don't notice because your immune system does what it is supposed to So I think very few attributes can actually be trained, clear ones being Strength and Breath, followed by Determination. For few (Senses, Fortune, Mental speed maybe Connection) you might learn skills to compensate, but that wont' actually increase the baseline attribute. I don't think that would work. Feruchemy seems to work by basically redirecting 'something' in your spiritweb, but your spiritweb is still your spiritual ideal. You won't get beyond bounds of what human can do by doing this. I expect you will simply get diminishing returns when training, and eventually you will stop getting stronger as your spiritual ideal is now 'weaker'. I.e. when not storing Strenght you can train, and achieve ability to do 200 Kg benchpress. This is your maximum, you won't get beyond that no matter how much you train further. In a different world, you trained when storing Strength, but that means your maximum dropped to 180 kg (you were storing 10% of Strength). So you will never train to get beyond that, because that is your maximum you can achieve to align with your spiritual ideal (modified by Feruchemy).
  12. If light is produced so is gamma, you basically get black body radiation (with maximum in X-ray range) and secondary peaks in hard X-ray and gamma ranges. So yes, you would get gamma, and in fact it would be among the most likely the second most dominant after X-rays. Recycling spent nuclear fuel actually is not that easy, and you want to take what is created and put it inside humans. Even small amount of impurities will be quite dangerous. Though there might be some ways to separete out Invested god metals from the non-Invested matter, that would help diminish the risk. If that happens, yeah quite difficult...and veeery interesting Ah good point, not sure how I forgot that. I am not sure any system could react fast enough. In regular reactors you it rises to criticality and beyond slowly, it is not on the verge of becoming a bomb. Whereas Trellium-Harmonium reactor would be, it would contain everything to be a huge bomb immediately. Though it depends on construction, I guess you could make the reactor where you are adding only small amounts of Trellium, however that would make it basically combustion engine, and that has lower efficiency than nuclear power plants. Your/Trusk'our's proposed cooling would be useful, but feasibility of it working to stop critical explosion would depend on how exactly is the reactor constructed. Yeah. I think the worst case scenario is worse then even Chernobyl, more on the level of Nagasaki. Heat, polarised Harmonium and Trellium is all you need to get explosion, and reactor is getting energy from those explosions, but if too many happen at once... I personally think other elements are produced as well, as Investitre=matter=energy, and we know there must be pathways to convert Investiture into matter (as seen in Feruchemy or Soulcasting), so those would be activated. Risk depends on how much of those would be produced. And if activated God Metals are a possibility as you mention, then the Harmonium itself might be radioactive. Indeed, but I suspect that Autonomy is not gone for good, as Trell is to play a role in Era 3. So good news on that front at least (for us, not so much for Scadrial ) Indeed it is.
  13. Thanks! Oh well, back to the drawing board.
  14. Deliberate difference is possible, however we know that Nightblood's creation was special as it involved a Shard. So it stands to reason that Nightblood won't be replicable, not without Shardic level knowledge/power. Also, we don't know that Vivenna's Blade does not require influx of Investiture, it still might (and most likely does, as it does seem to be artificial spren as well) albeit on lower level. Vivenna even describes her blade as 'shy' if I remember right, so it is intelligent as well.
  15. I am not sure if F-Electrum would help you get into Flow state. Flow state is about focus specifically, whereas F-Electrum is determination/energy. Tapping a lot of F-Electrum is more liable to make you manic than to make you hyperfocus. I would say that F-Zinc has better chance of helping you achieve flow state.
  16. Light is produced, so is gamma radiation. Investiture can create matter, so there is a possibility regular matter is also created during fission. If so, alpha and beta radiation would be also present. But yes, I admit it is speculative. If your goal is just reactor, than yes you could do shielding as in normal reactor (if indeed neutrons and alpha particles are being produced). However, then getting atium/lerasium out would be rather complicated, since they would be intermixed with heavily radioactive material. Basically, nearly anything inside reactor will become radioactive after a while, because it is being bombarded by neutrons/alpha and being activated that way. Yes, I agree, if they would be exposed it would be rather small dose. Still, fun to think about it, Wax&Co might be the first people on Scadrial irradiated via artificial means I agree with stable and sustainable. Safe, well, that depends in my opinion. If making reaction self-sustaining is not possible, then harmonium-trellium reactor would be hugely complex to make, so a lot of room for error. You get one larger explosion due to some error, and that damage the rest of device possibly causing more explosions to occur. And if radioactive byproduct is being produced, then you are creating a lot of heavily radioactive waste (not just fuel itself, but also material of the reactor). Finally, I am not sure you will be able to get your hands on hundreds of kg of Harmonium each year, not to mention tens of kg of Trellium. Remember that Harmonium is also a crucial component in all Invested technology used on Scadrial (sole exception being Medallions), so you have competing interests. However, this is difficult to speculate on, as we have no idea how Harmonium is being produced. But ultimately yeah, reactor would be over time the superior source of Lerasium/Atium, but with (in my opinion) rather large technological overhead required.
  17. That is what I was describing in the second part of my post. The issue is that IRL, bombs is chain reaction (one atoms splits, causes on average more than one to split, etc.), which you can control by introducing medium (like heavy water, graphite etc.), this then turns it into controlled reaction. So atom splitting provides three things: energy neutrons to cause further splits lighter atoms But Harmonium-Trellium does not appear to be chain reaction at all, you literally 'stab/cut' apart Harmonium with Trellium. It does not start from miscroscopic reaction from what we have seen. So at best, you can make smaller filaments, and cut those with Trellium. So in this case, Harmonium splitting produces only two of those things energy lighter atoms (atium/lerasium) If you want it controlled, you have to either to do it in small batches as I proposed (possible with what they know, just cumbersome) or find out what exactly about Trellium is causing the reaction, and how to make it microscopic and self-sustaining (probably not possible, not unless splitting Harmonium somehow produces small amounts of Trellium as well). And if your goal is produce a lot of Lerasium/Atium, then reactor will do it much more slowly, and radiation is also an issue as fuel rods are hilariously radioactive. (hmm, wonder how much radiation was the gang exposed to in the lab).
  18. I mean, generating that temperature without destroying surroundings it easy? Wax can do it in his basement, induction heating is not that advanced technology. The issue is that to separate Harmonium to Lerasium and Atium leads to nuclear fission, and those are exothermic. So you will get explosion if you do it like that. Probably you try doing something like, creating thin filaments of Harmonium and then insert very tiny (possibly microscopic) sliver of Trellium. But the issue is that while you make the explosion smaller, you also reduce amount of Atium/Lerasium (if you figure out proper Intent) made, so you would need to massively parallelize. And then you again have large explosion, or you need huge space to do it in. Brass compounder might be able to heat up Harmonium, but the explosion would kill them. Explosion is a necessary (at least from what we know) result of separating Harmonium into Lerasium and Atium. It is not a means to get temperature, it is a result of the process itself, you cannot get rid of it.
  19. How is that? Also, I hope I don't come across as 'combative', I just happen to be stronger at hole-poking as it is, than at proposing in-depth explanations myself. You could possibly address that by modifying the equation to account for 'Invested-ness' of the object? I.e. we know that heavily Invested objects are more difficult to affect by Pushes/Pulls (e.g. Shardblades being unpushuble by anyone seen on-screen per WoBs). If the acceleration goes more like a = F/(m+I), where I is investiture, that would work in broad strokes. (or it could be that the Force applied is reduced by Investiture, F_final = F - I*constant) Shardblade is light (m small), but gigantically Invested (I huge). Hence, no movement. Elend is more Invested than Inquisitor (as he is Lerasium Mistborn), hence he is pushed less than Inquisitor.
  20. Fair enough!
  21. I see two possible reasons: Purified Dor is in some ways better than Stormlight (e.g. denser) Ghostbloods won't succeed in getting access to Stormlight. I lean towards option two, as per WoB Dor is difficult/dangerous to obtain, Shallan is now aware of Ghostbloods plots and actively working against them, and Rosharans have relatively easy ways of controlling access to Shadesmar and Roshar.
  22. I don't think savants can 'turn up' their efficiency. Rather their efficiency is always turned up because they are savants, and their spiritweb is changed because of that. If it something they can tune, it could be included in the burn/flare scale as that describes how much effort is the Allomancer exerting. It is possible I am forgetting something however.
  23. I would point out that one thing seems to point against the 'destructiveness' of F-steel, and that is that both Bleeder and Marasi interact with everyday objects without damaging them in any way. For example, Bleeder is easily opening doors at ~15x fold acceleration easily without doing any damage to them. Marasi on the other hand, grabs multiple glass vials while accelerated at least ~150x, and she does not simply shatter them by grabbing and moving them at such speed. So something wonky is happening when Steelrunner interacts with other objects, and I don't think it will be as simple as 'Steelrunner swings 3x as fast and so hits 3x as hard'.
  24. The quote itself provides explanation, Kelsier notes he 'flicked' the items, which implies he only pushed/pulled on them for a very short time. So he quickly pulls on an item, and gets it moving in a straight line. Yes, some handwaving is necessary. However, it is not just Allomancers that think they lack control, Sanderson says that going below burn is very difficult, so this lack of control is part of the magic system So moderating burn rate (and hence push force) below burn rate it difficult, i.e. using it to explain away issues of your model is ignoring parts of the worldbuilding. Especially for e.g. Vin in TFE, or Elend in HoA, where both are certainly not skilled enough. And pushing on coins is basically among the first things Mistborn/Coinshots do, so it should not require skill that per author they don't posses. The discontinuity in applied force when coin hits wall/ground is also something unexplained by your model. Savants 'quality' of burn can be included under the variable of 'strength' of Allomancy. Afterall, it just means they can do more with less, i.e. externally they will just appear as if they were stronger.
