theory [Theory] Anti-Adonalsium, Anti-light, Anti-shards, and more!
Rune replied to Rune's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@Duxredux Yes this was more of what I was thinking but you’re right when you say that Brandon wouldn’t from a storytelling perspective. I was just trying to think of what it would look like if something like them existed. I agree that we might see some sentient anti-investiture as that seems like it could fit in with the Cosmere as a whole without stretching things too far.- 11 replies

Another theory here, so I was wondering if it would be possible for there to be a anti-version of investiture, shards, and Adonalsium. We see anti-light in RoW and its effect on normal light and invested beings, being capable of killing Heralds, Fused, and Radiant spren. This aligns with anti-matter in real life where, if it comes into contact with its opposite (like oxygen and anti-oxygen) it explodes in a massive explosion. This symmetry might suggest that there could be an ultimate foe in the form of some sort of anti-adonalsium which could be a reason that they need to bring the shards back together and reform adonalsium. What are your thoughts on this?

So, I don't know if this has been thought of before, but I have had a theory for some time that we will eventually see more orders of the Knight Radiants-or at least sub-orders. Let me explain-we know that surgebinding is a result of Honor and Cultivation and that worlds with a invested shard have a magic system based at least partly off of the shard. Odium has now started investing himself more and more into Roshar and we've seen the effects in the Fused and voidbinding. Renarin, has bonded a spren corrupted by Odium and has manifested new variations (hence the sub-orders) on the original truthwatcher abilities. He is still a truthwatcher in that he accesses the same surges, he just manifests them in new and different ways. What are your guys's thoughts on this? Do you think that we could see sub-orders of the original Radiant orders?

Well, Kaladin's the first person to draw interest from an Honorspren in a long time, plus the Honorspren he drew was the Ancient Daughter herself, so yeah I think Honor would be interested in talking to him Again, this is technically true but I don't think it means he's Connected to Honor in any special way that another Windrunner wouldn't be. I will have to disagree, as Kaladin is a special case when it comes to a Windrunner, as he emulated the ideals so perfectly that he struggled with growing and evolving beyond his current oaths. Every time he took on a new oath, he was able to and had to change and started emulating the perfect windrunner at every stage. I think Windrunners held a special place in Honor's heart which got passed on to the Stormfather as they where the most similar to him. I also have a theory that Kaladin will be the one to take up the shard of Honor as he seems to be the one that the Stormfather implies to be the most like Tanavast.

[Crackpot Theory] Chanarach is NOT Shallan's mother
Rune replied to Veez's topic in Stormlight Archive
Its not a bad theory, just the problem with Vorin symmetry as stated earlier. Nice to see some theories other than "shallan's mother".- 20 replies

I think a very important thing that people seem to have forgotten is that an invested object is resistant to other forms of investiture and I can't find that quote anywhere, but I have seen it mentioned many times.

Well we know that the spren and Roshar predate the shattering and so not all spren are from a specific shard and the reason there are Honorspren, and Cultivationspren is because those two have invested a portion of themselves into Roshar, effectivly becoming a portion of the land which is why they have their own spren. If another shard invested themselves into Roshar, then they very likely will eventually have their own spren as that is how investure manifests itself on Roshar. Like ShardlessVessal said, This shows that all shard-invested planets will have some form of at least partially sapient investure as a side effect of a shard investing the planet. As for spren of Harmony, I think they would have more of a harmonious personality that would try to be the peacemakers and enforce harmony. Endownmentspren would likely try to be gift givers and be able to weakly endow like a very temporary "blessing" on a person. Another question could be, what the magic systems might look like from different combinations of shards, as we get surgebinding from the combination of Honor and Cultivation. Any ideas?

What exactly do you mean by bond? A Nahel bond? If so, then I would say one that allowed them (like Kelsier) to do something they couldn’t before. Windrunner power wouldn’t be much use as he is particularly skilled at iron and steel which can effectively do similar things. Dustbringers seem dangerous to me as they don’t seem hard to become as their oaths focus on self mastery and as we know, Honor doesn’t impose a morality on the oaths as he is dead and so Kelsier would only need to become a more mastered self to gain these powers.

Do Highly Invested Spiritwebs Naturally Develop Powers?
Rune replied to Trusk'our's question in Cosmere Q&A
Yes investiture is not a part of a spiritweb but is accessed by the exploitation of the cracks that form in one. Those cracks then need a conduit to access the investiture and harness it (like oaths for Surgebinders). There is also mention of “Old Magic” that predates the Shattering and this could be a result of natural processes through nature that allow a person to use investiture.- 9 replies

Returned can’t be just a large amount of investiture as, yes investiture can become sentient, but Returned come back with the talents, skills, and some memories of who they were before so there is some connection with the original persons spirit, mind, and body to be able to retain the full aspect that they do, so they cannot just be investiture just commanded to do stuff-a personality, skill, and talent cannot simply be from a command, i.e. a person isn’t the result of a command. It’s a good idea but I don’t think that that’s how investiture really works and interacts with existing persons.

@Robin Sedai That sucks... I was really hoping that I could get just a couple instead of all at such a high price. Thanks though!

I literally can't wait... The only problem is you have to buy either all the swag boxes or none. Am I correct in saying that? I've checked the Kickstarter site and can't find an option for individual swag boxes.
