  1. Gah, I'm sorry: I warned you about the possibility of inactivity; I was missing most of last night, and I forgot to send in orders. Luckily for me, we only found one Elim, so perhaps we can afford one more night of exploring? I'll leave it up to you guys. I don't have a lot of time right now, but I wanted to voice my concern that Araris survived the night, having claimed the power that he did. I'm not putting a vote on him, for now, but that's where I'd put it if I had to.
  2. Stink has a point. I agree that things look bad for JUQ right now, but it isn't three-votes-in-two-hours bad. Let's give him a chance to speak for himself before we throw him to the nightmaws. I will hopefully be able to grab a minute or two tomorrow to do some analysis, and maybe throw out some suspicions and/or poke votes, but right now I am too tired for any of that. I should have been in bed hours ago.
  3. I never said anything about them not being in communication. That has been read into my words, and I did not intend for it to be there. I did say, however, that it's entirely possible that they do not all have the same victory conditions. It would be a very effective way of balancing what has every chance of becoming a greatly oversized, role-madness Eliminator team -- make it so they can ally with each other, but it is an uneasy alliance. It is interesting, though that Doc somehow missed that the first time I suggested this, when I did mention the possible lack of a doc, I was pretty quickly corrected on it. The mist likely way I can imagine him reading that into my post is if he read the first one -- so why did he miss El's correction that time? Anyway, like I said before, people with powers they haven't already announced should now find at least two confidants via PM, and make sure each is aware of who the other is. And I also think everyone should explore again tonight, though there's a good chance this will be the last night I recommend that. NOTE: I am up way too late. If this post was grammatical nonsense, I'm sorry. I get verbose when I'm tired.
  4. Well said. I agree wholeheartedly. I do think you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble if you announced before the game began that you were going to adopt a new style. I only figured out that that's what you were doing yesterday, and until then, I was confused as to why you weren't doing anything to "contribute". But yes, this is absolutely a valid way to play the game, and perhaps even a better one. I'm worried, though, that this will make it difficult for you and I to interact. RP -- especially with another player -- takes significantly longer for me than straight analysis, and as I've said before, my SE time is pretty limited right now. I hope I get the opportunity to RP later; I like this character, and haven't yet written anything from her perspective. But it's entirely possible that I will never get that chance, and so will never be able to talk with Khaos. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this?
  5. All right, thanks Doc! See, guys? That's what a poke vote can make happen, wielded properly. I'm not, really. I have noticed a shift in her playstyle, but I'm willing to chalk that up to just general variation and trying out something different. The points you make are valid, and I suppose I don't really have any experience with her as an Eliminator, but my gut says to give her the benefit of the doubt. I dunno, maybe my gut is a naive idiot. The D1 lynch has never been about killing an Elim. It's a tool to make people start talking, so that you can analyze the things they say and the way they vote. If no lynch discussion happens D1, then D2 just becomes the new D1.
  6. I'm... not sure where you got this? I've been consistently in favor of exploring right now. I still am. But I want everyone to understand that doing so is dangerous, and if we do it too much, it will likely cost us the game. I did recently clarify what I thought "too much" to be -- exploring after our fifth omen -- but that's hardly a stark change. If we have to lynch someone -- which seems like the way this will go down -- I agree that dropping an inactive is our best bet, because it's least likely to bite us. For the record, though, my strongest suspicion right now is Araris. He's said little toward the discussion except to come out with an ability that would make him an instant target for the Eliminators, and gains him little to nothing to have publicized. However, it does make us all want to keep him alive, and would justify his further exploring even if the group decided that was inadvisable.
  7. Or maybe he wanted to make a sort of gambling mechanic, where we had to decide just how much we want to explore, with too much or too little being dangerous. I think I mentioned above that I suspect that Wyrm took a page out of the actual House on the Hill game, and gave each Elim a different win condition, so that they can work together, but only loosely. It solves your problem, adds an interesting mechanic to the game, and draws on the source material.
  8. Most of my available SE time is focused on LG28 right now, but I'll pop my head in to say that I don't like what poke votes have become these days, but once upon a time, they served a purpose. The trouble is, what qualifies as 'active' has shifted in the meta. When they first became popular, poke votes were a tool to put pressure on relatively quiet player in order to force them to commit to some opinions. A modern poke vote, on the other hand, consists almost entirely of "hey, are you there?", to which we accept "yeah, I'm here" as a reasonable answer. That accomplishes nothing; posting without stating any opinions or stimulating discussion is not in any way more productive than total inactivity. So I encourage everyone to poke-vote away, but make sure you use them effectively, and don't release your target until they commit some solid opinions to the record. To that end, Doc: What do you think about El's behavior this game? I personally feel that she is being distinctly more aggressive than usual. What are your opinions? @Doctor12
  9. I get that, but I legitimately think that we will not gain any worthwhile information from this lynch. There simply aren't enough Elims. I follow your example with the fake-suspicion slip-up, but that's only speculation -- mistakes like that aren't something you should count on unless you are actively working to make them happen. And don't you think you're reaching a little if that's the best information you can imagine us getting out of this? I mean, we came up with an equally likely scenario with vote manip, and that would gain us about as much information. The vast majority of the information we get from a typical D1 lynch is completely invalidated by the conditions here. I agree, but I want to stress the normal-sized eliminator team comment. We are playing a dangerous game here -- deliberately increasing our enemies' strength simply to make them easier to find. I do not think the Village should risk an Eliminator team of larger than four or five members. At least until we've caught one, that is; after that, we'll need to look for the Heart. As Bugsy said, the condition to let us find the heart isn't based on the number of omens; we just need to catch an Elim first. It's true that every night we don't find the Heart is another kill for the enemy. But it's also true that every night we spend exploring before we kill one of them is, by definition, going to be a night on which we don't find the Heart -- and more than that, it's another 1-3 conversions to the enemy team. If we aren't careful, by the time we reach Aman's stage 2, we could have upwards of seven or eight Elims on our hands.
  10. It's not funny. It's intentional. I've long felt that the lynch gets too much credit as the be-all and end-all of Village tools for creating discussion. It may be the single best tool, but it's far from the only trick we've got.
  11. If they do have vote manip, then they will play their hand by using it this cycle. We'd no longer be guessing at their powers; we'd know -- at least a little. Additionally, we would gain information from the person they chose to kill with it. For all that, I am willing to risk a single village life, especially since the alternative is essentially just taking that life ourselves. EDIT: That said, this obviously only works if we can get all the players to agree to a null lynch. Otherwise, those players who don't agree will just lynch who they please.
  12. Agreed. Ordinarily, you want a lynch even with absolutely no information, because you gain information from the reactions to said lynch. Here, though, there are so few existing Elims that the chances of catching something from them is low, while any behavior that might gain trust for a player must be called into question again and again every cycle. Though I had failed to consider the wild card of Stink's claimed "neutral" role. Stink, if you are, as you claim, neutral, what do you have to gain from a lynch?
  13. Seriously, guys, stop! No matter how useless your item is, or even if you found nothing, revealing it only helps the Elims choose a target. And if you're wrong? We could find ourselves facing pretty bad odds in just a few cycles. And while extra Elims don't power up the basic Elim kill, it has been heavily implied that each Elim is being given a unique role, likely with powers. Every omen found may well be a new ability the Traitors have access to. I do think that for tonight, at least, the potential benefits outweigh the cost. The Village needs some powers of its own, and as has been stated, finding one of two elims is going to be pretty difficult. But I think we should stop once we hit 4-5 Elims -- any more could be too risky.
  14. I really think people should stop posting in the thread about whether they found something. It only makes targets of you, or, if you found nothing, makes targets of everyone else. If you want to get the word out about the power you found, a safe way to do it is to wait till night, then make PMs with 2-3 other players, informing them about your power and the identities of the other people you told.
  15. All right, some things have come up in my life that are likely to occupy a lot of my attention going forward. I'm not withdrawing from the game as of right now, but I wanted to warn everyone here that I will be considerably less active than I usually am. I apologize for this; I will do my best to put in the effort this game deserves, but there are simply times when real life must intervene.

  17. @Wyrmhero, It's true that I, Wonko, am male. Konwa, on the other hand, is a young girl. Best guesses for the omens are the missing stamps (Soulforger?) and the blood-letters.
  18. I've been thinking about this as well. We have to weigh our chances both ways. The points you make are valid, but we have to consider the alternative. By not exploring, we make mislynches more likely, and we forgo valuable roles and items that the Elims will likely be accruing. That's another thing we need to figure out tonight -- how common and how powerful the roles are. If they don't gain us much on average, it's probably better to hold off. But it's possible that further exploration will give us the tools we need to root out a Traitor much faster.
  19. Is that possible? I was under the impression that the lifespan of most plants was marginally less than three centuries. Oh, you. I know this is meant to be unfolded, but I choose to visualize it as some sort of origami puzzle, on which the map is only readable when it is folded into the correct shape. Oh, Harmony. Did anyone else's sports sink, just a little, upon reading this? That's... Awfully generous of you to tell us, if true. No, Jondesu, most of us are Villagers. Are you sure that you aren't? If your role is given in green text, you're a Villager, not a Neutral. To be clear, are you aware that the finder of an omen is not necessarily the person who turns? When an omen is found, someone is randomly selected off the player list. So revealing that you found an omen would not in any way implicate you. I, too, believe that everyone playing should explore tonight, though I disagree with Nyali's assessment as to why. I see no reason to believe that Wyrm has planned few enough rooms that we might exhaust his "room deck", nor a reason to assume that there is any practical limit on the number of Eliminators. However, the game cannot move forward until we find the Heart of the House. Every turn that we don't is a turn where someone dies. The extra Elims are worrying, especially since they're likey to gain powers they can use against us. But until we find the Heart, every turn is a wasted one. I also want to point out that there's no guarantee that the Elims will be working together. In the board game, the win condition of the Traitor depends entirely on what kind of Haunt happened. We have no reason to assume that the Elim types Wyrm has in store do not have likewise unique objectives. Heck, I don't think the rules even state that they have a doc. RP will come later, I promise.
  20. Nowko Lestibournes, leader of The Abundance, was indulging in a rare moment of relaxation. He sat in his most comfortable chair before a roaring fireplace, a hot cup of tea by his side and a book on Realmatic theory open in his hands. Behind him, the door opened and closed as Len walked in, a stack of papers in his arms, Ena trailing just behind him. Len set the missives down on the table and walked over into the kitchen. He returned a few moments later with his own cup of tea, sat in the chair opposite Nowko's, and began to peruse the correspondence. "Dr. Arelle is reporting in from Nalthis," Len said as he read over the missive, "she's made it to Hallandren safely." "She also says that she is grateful for this opportunity, and eager to embark on her first mission." Len scowled. "Nights, but I'm worried about her." "What's done is done," Nowko said, as though trying to convince himself. "It's out of our hands from here. What else do you have?" Len looked over the next letter. "Dr. Kalei reports that the mission on Threnody was a success, and he awaits reassignment." "Hmph. Took him long enough." Nowko sipped at his tea. "Make a note. We'll find somewhere useful to put him later." Len nodded and moved on. "Dr. Selva reports that all attempts to locate Dr. Occulta continue to prove fruitless," Len said with a wry smile. "She once again recommends that the search be aborted. You're not going to find him, Doc." "Don't call me Doc," Nowko replied in a long-suffering tone. "We couldn't know until we tried. Inform Dr. Selva that she is free to return to her research." "Lastly, Agent Roul on First of the Sun has information on a potential situation developing. Apparently, there are rumors circulating that some kind of relic has been located somewhere out in the Pantheon. An expedition to recover it is being organized. Roul recommends that an operative be placed on the team." "Well, that's convenient," said Nowko. "Put Bres on it. This is right up his alley, and solves the question of his reassignment." "Right. Ena, can you get that to Dr. Kalei?" "Of course, Len." The Seon said, then zipped away. Business handled, Nowko returned his attention to his book, while Len pulled out a soulstamp and began to whittle away at it. Moments of peace were a rare commodity for them, and they would enjoy this one for as long as it lasted. I will be playing as Dr. Bres Kalei, an experienced field operative for the Abundance. Trained as a medical doctor, Bres is a Pewter/Iron twinborn with a talent for acrobatics and parkour. He has the heart of an adventurer, and is at his best when facing down impossible odds in an unfamiliar situation.
  21. For doc readers: bear in mind that there are 3 PMs there, and at one point, all 3 were in parallel. I think the way it's organized makes the most sense, but it may be a little confusing. Jondesu started The Forsworn Few at game start. It had all the starting Elims. I started The Forsworn Fewer after Lopen contacted me and confirmed my growing suspicions that Len had turned traitor. It had all starting Elims besides Len. It was fairly brief; I mainly just meant it for us to discuss whether to trust Lopen. This operated in parallel with The Forsworn Few. After we decided, I created The Real Forsworn Few. This had The Forsworn Fewer plus Lopen. This replaced The Forsworn Fewer and operated in parallel with The Forsworn Few, though some lingering conversation still happened in Forsworn Fewer.
  22. It's a bad idea to sign up for this and LG28 at the same time... But I really want to. And I mean, promises of a mysterious artefact unknown to the cosmere? How is that not supposed to draw Nowko's eye? I'll have a character soon.
