Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Okay, guys, I'm back. And boy, do I have my work cut out for me. Can anyone tell me what is going on? I gather we've found the Heart? Unless someone can recap, expect a lot of fumbling from me as I struggle to catch up.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Oh. Um.... Oops? I literally forgot about this game. Sorry. Also, we have two days left to decide if we want to put pinch hitters in for me and Chaos. We will be totally unplugged from the 18th to the 27th; nine full days of inactivity. In fairness, it's not like a lot will change, but still.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@The_Lady_of_Chaos, Dani is currently a number of people's main suspect, because of events towards the end of last night. However, you should try and make your own judgments, instead of going along blindly with the thread. Remember that discussion is a huge part of this game. So far, you haven't given any real opinions on anything. I understand your reluctance; I, too, struggle to come up with things to say at times. But it really is the most important thing you can do. I recommend that you read through each post in this cycle (It's only two pages, you can manage it ), then give a post with your reactions. How do you feel about the things people have said? What points stuck out to you? Do you agree with what people are saying? Why or why not? What things don't make sense to you? Who do you think is acting suspicious?* One trick I like to use when catching up on the thread is multiquote. As you read through, highlight sections of posts that stand out. When you do, an option to "quote this" will pop up. Click it, and it will automatically quote the selection for you. Then, go back to reading. When you finish, the response box will be already filled with everything that caught your attention, ready for you to respond to it. In the end, the most important thing to realize is that what you say isn't actually very important at all right now. The difference between the most brilliant deduction and the most illogical fumbling is not all that much, especially this early in the game. So don't worry about it. Just start talking. Say what's on your mind. Say anything. Oh, and nag @jefrywlfersn until he does the same. *I'd like to emphasize that last one. I understand that it can be hard for new players to develop solid suspicions. I'm not asking you to do that. Skill with analysis comes with time. Right now, imagine that the lynch is in your hands. If you had to, who would you kill? You might be wrong. You probably will be wrong. That isn't the point. We aren't asking you because we think you have the answer. We are asking you because we want to see what's going on in your head. Regarding your other post, that isn't going to work. We're going to be outside the U.S. Our data plan doesn't cover that; we won't have access to cellular data. There is WiFi on the ship, but it's expensive, and we don't intend on paying for it. The only way we'll be getting online during the trip is if we happen to find free, safe WiFi at one of our stops, and I'm not sure how likely that is. It's better to assume we'll be totally dark for the duration of the trip. Oh, just a few quick pointers: it's against the rules of the forum to double-post like that. Instead, if you have new information, you should edit it into your old post. Also, this is the usual color for out-of-game information: ordinary blue. It's just to the right of cyan, the one you picked. I don't think there was any confusion, but it's probably best if you use this color in the future.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A heads-up to everyone: Chaos and I will be going on a cruise over Christmas. As a result, we will both have a week-long period with absolutely no Internet connection, starting on the 18th. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how we should handle that? Should we get some pinch hitters lined up?- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Gah. I wish, man. Ask me again in a week, after finals are over. In the mean time, if you want to include Konwa in your RP, go right ahead. She's young, naïve, energetic, and brilliant. No RP powers. Expert researcher, but inexperienced field operative. Overwhelming sense of curiosity, and a mild tendency to get sidetracked by questions she finds fascinating. I'd like to bring it to the group's attention that Dani opened a PM with me the night before last, and said that something to the effect of "First off, have you found anything good while exploring?" After I replied that I hadn't, she went silent. She has still said nothing to me, despite clearly implying that this was meant to be the start of a larger conversation. This raised a few flags as a possible fishing attempt, but I decided to let it go at the time. In light of recent events, though, it seems pertinent to bring it up.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
What? Are you sure you have the stages of this game down? All players begin explorers. Omens are found; Elims are generated. At least one Elim is caught; Heart and kill method become findable. Heart and kill method are found. Heart is killed; Elims are no longer generated by Omens. Remainder of game plays out like standard Elimination, until Elims are dead or outnumber living players. We need to race to stage 5 as soon as possible, before the game becomes unwinnable by sheer number of Elims. Our next step on the way there is to find an Elim. Now, I agree that there are virtually guaranteed to be Elims among the inactives. But those Elims have no data to analyze, and are therefore harder to find than active Elims. Since we only need one right now, we should focus on the easiest to find. After we kill the Heart, then we can start worrying about inactive Elims. Until then, every non-Elim inactive we lynch is another turn where more Elims can be generated.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes, he could be an Elim. So could you. So could I. That's... how this game works? I'm still failing to see a solid reason for your suspicion -- which is, in turn, drawing my eye to you. Your 'chaotic reputation' is the only thing keeping me from advocating you as our next lynch, and, fair warning, I won't let you hide behind that for much longer. Regarding the inactive point, in many games I might agree with you, but a huge segment of our current playerbase is inactive. As I've pointed out before, focusing our attention on them is impractical, and wastes valuable time. Remember that, right now, our goal isn't to find all the Elims -- it's to find just one. It's a better use of our time to start analyzing the active players, since we actually have information about them. Once we stop spawning Elims, then, if necessary, we can start systematically taking out inactives.- 980 replies

What? There were no votes on Doc! Why would you risk fracturing the lynch like that? If you're suspicious of Doc for voting with Aman, surely that means you're still suspicious of Aman? What possible reason could you have to switch? You just ratcheted up my suspicion of you a lot. Aman Nyali- 357 replies

Mid-Range Game 18: Patji's Cauldron
Wonko the Sane replied to Haelbarde's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Umm... Uh... Hm. I did not think of that. But I'm really worried. I don't think Assassin is evil, and if we kill him, we may well be dooming ourselves. I'm trying to figure out a way to confirm him before it's too late. If no one else switches, I will definitely be trying to move the vote. I have no way to confirm myself to you, though. I guess we'll see how this plays out.- 357 replies

You have a point, but if the vote is already on a villager, they don't even need to do that. I suggest that as many people as possible watch at rollover. If there isn't a sudden switch by anyone, Assassin is likely innocent, and we need to move the lynch fast.- 357 replies

Sorry, I'm loaded with a lot of end-of-term schoolwork. I'll take a break from writing my essay to say that I am also growing suspicious of Aman, but his points about Nyali ring true to me. It's interesting that he didn't vote for her, though. Gah, I should go with my gut here: Aman. It just doesn't make sense to me that you're still alive.- 357 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I would remove the could, and say there *are* definitely Elims among the inactives. But, as you yourself pointed out, they aren't a priority, and they are harder to find than active Elims. We need to focus our energy on finding one of the easier ones, and opening the Heart to being found. Once we stop spawning Elims, this game gets a lot easier.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
People with stuff keep dying... is it more common than I thought? Do most of you have nice things? (I mean, don't answer, that, obviously, but still...) This almost makes me want to explore more, but I'm still wary of spawning Elims. I wish I had nice things, though. EDIT: Hey, is it against the rules to use the upvote system as a game mechanic? Because if not, all the players with useful powers could upvote, say, Hael's quicklinks as a way of announcing themselves anonymously. That way, we could get some indication of how many of you there are in the game. EDIT2: I'm getting notifications -- are people giving me upvotes for this? Please don't. I don't want this plan to be perceived as a bid for rep. If it weren't for the fact that there were already upvotes on the writeup and Kas's clarifications, I'd propose one of those. To the people who have clearly downvoted this post back to zero, thank you. I've said nothing extraordinary, and don't deserve a rep bump for this.- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
- Wonko the Sane - Yeah, I hear you. I've been excited because somehow, despite five and a half years with the Shard, this is my first time participating in Ookla season, but I can see that it's damaging both of the games I'm in. Signing posts, identifying people we mention -- in the end, all these tedious fixes only mitigate the problem, rather than solve it. So, for the sake of SE, I will be switching back. Wyrm's right in that it's unfair to ask players not to participate in this event -- it's a tradition even older than SE, after all. But I ask my fellow Ooklas to consider whether it's really worth the stress this is putting on our fellow players. Nyali seems near to bowing out of the game; is this acceptable to you? If you really must continue participating in the event, I ask you to go out of your way to make it brazenly obvious who you are. Put it in your title. Put it in your sig. Put it in your username, like Mark. Do whatever you need to to keep confusion from overtaking us. Here's the list of current Ooklas involved in this game (minus me, since I'll be switching after this post). @Ookla the Watcher - Doctor12 @Ookla the Indubitable - Magestar @Ookla the Inimitable - little wilson @Ookla the Unpredictable - Elenion @Ookla the Colorful - Assassin in Burgundy @Mesa the Ookla - Darkness Ascendant @Ookthelion III - Ecthelion III @Ookla the Insufferable - Aonar Faileas @Ookla the Paranoid - Straw @Ookla the Incarnate - Seonid @Ookla the Indefinable - The Young Bard @Ookla The Russian (Mark) - Mark IV @Wyrmhero, it won't fix everything, but one thing you could consider doing is putting their Ookla names in their entries in the player list. Wyrm's built an incredible game here, guys. Let's not let it fall apart from a little thing like this. - Wonko the Sane -- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
-Wonko the Sane - All right. I'm going to agree with Hael that any further exploration is a little too risky for me, at least until we can find the Heart. We have reached the part of the game that requires activity to be useful. I've tried to keep an eye on the thread, but not nearly so well as I'd have liked, and I frankly don't know where to start for suspicions. I am still concerned that Araris is still alive, though, with the "I can never be evil" power he's claimed. I am beginning to suspect, though, that the power is a fake, and that the Elims have come to the same conclusion. Unodus, the problem with that is that a literal majority of players are inactive, myself included. Hopefully, I can be more present going forward, and I can bother Chaos until she posts, but that still leaves just too many of them. I have no doubt that some of them are Elims -- unless Wyrm is fudging his rolls very heavily, it would be a bizarre coincidence if they weren't. But since telling one inactive from another is difficult or impossible, trying to figure out which would be fruitless. All we can do is hope that more players start talking, so that we have something to go on. I'll try to make time for analysis later, but if not, I'll at least read up enough so I know the right players to poke so that discussion gets started. - Wonko the Sane -- 980 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Sorry this is last minute and brief, but I want to get something in before rollover. I'll read up more thoroughly and post some better stuff next cycle, I promise. At a glance, it seems like the lynch is between PK and Rae, so I'll limit my quick thoughts to that. The reasoning for Rae is that she's made a change in her playstyle. I think she provided sufficient explanation for this -- she was trying to play differently -- and offered some extra details behind her reasoning that lend credibility to her story. I'm not saying she couldn't have made it up; obviously, it wouldn't have been too difficult to do so. However, referencing an actual book she read, where she got it, and how it influenced her thinking is more convincing than simply saying that she was trying out something new. I'm willing to give it to her for the time being. I'm not clear on the reasoning for the PK lynch, and I have absolutely no time left to read up and figure it out. However, I did notice something marginally suspicious about him. Very early in this cycle, he forwarded an inactive lynch when no one was thinking of any such thing, and he did it in such a way that made me think he might be trying to stifle the budding discussion that had been starting to happen. It's not much, but it's the only real suspicion I have on either of them, so I'd rather Paranoid King die than Rae. Sorry, Wyrm, about the last-minute vote. - Wonko the Sane- 980 replies

Mid-Range Game 18: Patji's Cauldron

Okay, I'm here, but only for a short while, unfortunately. I'm going to make this post, then wait around a short while, but I can't say when next I'll be on. Hopefully, It won't be as long a wait as last time. Doc, I just want to let you know that you're doing that thing again where you talk strange, and it sets off some kind of bell in my head. This time, though, I'm reasonably certain it's because you're in RP, not because you're an Elim. Alv, I 100% called the reason you put the vote on Stink! It's the sort of thing I'd have done if I was more active right now. Way to push conversation, and sorry that your wiles got you killed. I'm not a fan of the way Jondesu's been acting, but I don't have any amount of time to confirm that suspicion. That's sort of been a running problem this game; I'm not running as much analysis as I usually do, so I'm hesitant to apply any firm suspicions. So, rather than waste time worrying over that, I'll work to get something new for you active players with a poke vote: Assassin, I'm not seeing much from you right now. What do you think of Jondesu? Do you think he's an Elim? Why or why not? Who is your strongest suspicion right now? All right; like I said, I'll be here for a while, but not too long. After that, hopefully tomorrow? Not before noon, though.- 357 replies

Long Game 28: The Awakening at the House on the Hill
Wonko the Sane replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Assassin, we've been over this. We literally cannot find the Heart until we successfully kill an Elim. Until then, exploring can only gain us powers, and increase the number of Elims. I have advocated that we explore until we have 4-5 Elims, then wait until we find one of them to explore any further, looking for the Heart.- 980 replies
