  1. Seriously, that is one of the most profound things I've read on the 17th Shard. I also agree for the most part. I do think that living longer might be nice, particularly if you can form emotional connections with new people, especially newer generations of one's family. So, maybe I would choose to live a hundred years or so, maybe a little more (it's just too early to tell for me), but living that long without suffering the ill effects of getting old is what I'd really want. Plus, mathematically speaking, you'd still die from an accident at some point, even if you didn't age. But by then, it might not matter much to you- it depends on whether you still have meaning in your life.
  2. 1. Tough call for me. Bands of Mourning are awesome. You get to have thirty-two intriguing powers that you toy around with and learn more about, some of which turn you basically into a demigod. But Soulcasting is also pretty cool, and Bondsmithing could make you even more powerful if you knew how to use it to change your own Connection. So I would choose Bands of Mourning unless I could reliably figure out the Bondsmith Honorblade (in which case, I don't even need all ten Honorblades to tempt me. The Bondsmith Honorblade is good enough on its own). 2. Full Feruchemist. Mistborn powers are awesome, but Feruchemy feels like it has more overall versatility; a well prepared Full Feruchemist has something for basically any kind of situation, and their powers feel more useful for every-day situations as well as crazy world-ending situations. Plus, with Bendalloy Feruchemy, dieting becomes so much easier. 3. Do you mean a full Shard of Adonalsium? I'd still take being an Elantrian, actually. Being a Shardic Vessel has a lot of perks, but it's a lot of responsibility down a long, lonely road that involves a primordial force inevitably corrupting your mind and soul. In light of that, I'd take having to learn Investiture programming lessons any day of the week (and saying something, because programming is hard). 4. Hmmm. Honestly, I love the everlasting youth and Healthy state that comes with being an Awakener of the 5th Heightening, and if you do it correctly, you could sell a few Breaths and use the money to invest, then buy more Breaths a few decades later (during which you'll still barely age) to replace what you lost, and comfortably do whatever you feel like during your eternal retirement... Buuuuuuut. Realistically, I feel like being a 5th oath Radiant would be the best for my overall wellbeing and sense of self-worth, and living forever probably gets boring fast unless you have something bigger in your life that you always look forward to and work towards. I'd take being a Radiant, even if I started out with the 1st oath, because it's just the right thing to do for myself and others (Edgdancer or Skybreaker would be the orders I would best resonate with, I believe).
  3. Not once in era 2 do we see a Set member using a Hemalurgic spike that granted Feruchemical steel (Paalm doesn't count; she allied with the Set, but wasn't an official member). There were only a few known Steelrunners that Vwafendal had known about (was it three?), but even with Idashwy's power taken by Paalm, wouldn't the Set have had at least one or two Steelrunners available to spike? It's not like they didn't know how to access rare Feruchemical powers either: their small pile of Hemalurgic spikes providing Feruchemical gold prove this. It just seems like such a potentially powerful ability that the Set would have been absolutely giddy to get their hands on it. So why didn't they?
  4. But as soon as Spook removed his spike, Ruin no longer could push into his Spiritweb to appear as Kelsier; Spook's Spiritweb cracks weren't wide enough any longer. Using that reasoning, the spiritual damage caused by having a Hemalurgically charged spike implanted into your body should be gone once the spike is removed, shouldn't it?
  5. I thought that the lingering damage to Spook's Spiritweb was caused by a combination of lots of physical trauma and Savantism.
  6. They could probably look back in time though the Spiritual Realm, similar to how Allomantic gold and Malatium is used, though way, way better. Shard's vision seems to relate to their Connection (this makes sense, since they exist almost entirely inside the Spiritual Realm). If you can un-Connect yourself from a Shard, they shouldn't be able to sense you. I doubt that a Shard could "look" at other worlds unless they had some kind of Connection to the planet, or if an entity (or possibly object) with a sufficient Connection to the Shard in question were in the immediate area the Shard wanted to look upon. They almost certainly could, so long as they have sufficient Connection to the individual in question, and so long as they aren't "chained" somehow. I think that this is very likely. They are strongly Connected to Ruin. Some Shards prefer to fight indirectly, but if they aren't chained by anything, yes, they can directly fight, kill, and even splinter other Shards. What this looks like isn't really understood at this time, though the skill of the Vessel is important, not just the raw power they wield. Doubtful. If someone tried to pick up an intact Shard, they would merge with it and become its Vessel. Multiple people can kind of hold a single Shard, but as far as I know, it requires the primary Shard to splinter of portions of its power and turn the other would-be Vessels into Avatars. Maybe. If this is even possible, the person with the Shard tied to them wouldn't be able to use the Shard nearly as well as if they picked it up though, and if they ever tried to use it Well of Ascension style, they would just merge with it and become a Vessel. As @alder24 mentions though, the new Vessel could drop the Shard if they desired, though it would be difficult to do so.
  7. True. Unless someone higher up on the roster wanted a competitor gone. If it's the original Ferring or Misting whose power has been excised, then yes, it would require a lot of power. If it's the recipient of the Invested spike who is getting it removed, it should just be the physical damage that needs to be delt with. After all, Spook didn't seem to have any spiritual ramifications for removing a Hemalurgic spike from his body.
  8. Technically, you don't need the aluminum Ferring to survive. But, if the Set really did value them, they could grant them Feruchemical gold to heal after removing the other spike.
  9. I'm confused. Why would the bindpoint that the aluminum-Feruchemy granting spike used matter?
  10. I highly doubt it. Only a handful of beads were ever made, and it was done so by Leras himself. The Lord Ruler left two at the Well of Acsension for unknown reasons. If he was going to experiment with them, it feels weird that two would be left completely untouched. TLM spoilers...
  11. It should be possible to grant the power to Feruchemically blank Identity via a Hemalurgic spike. Even if you needed to worry about the original donor's Identity messing with the recipient's ability to fully blank their Identity, the donor could blank their own Identity while being spiked, making the Identity-blanking spike Identity-blanked itself. I doubt it. They didn't have much access to Malwish medallion tech, but they did seem to know how to create Unkeyed Metalminds (not Unsealed though), as Mr. Suit spoke of being able to "make someone else weak, while we get the strength" or something like that. Plus, Kelesina Shores was working with the Set and had an Unkeyed Goldmind (and a very full one at that). So they almost certainly knew how to use Hemalurgy in order to blank Identity. It does make me wonder though; evidence points to them knowing how to use Hemalurgy to gain access to Feruchemy in order to blank Identity. But they don't use this technique when trying to create power-granting spikes from non-Allomancers (as far as I can tell). Did the thought just not occur to them?
  12. You can't charge a Hemalurgic spike with another charge of Investiture so long as the Identities of the two charges are different. This quote actually confirms the possibility of creating super charged Hemalurgic spikes! All you need to do is have the donor blank their Identity via Feruchemy while being spiked. Thank you so much for finding this quote @alder24, I've been trying to prove this theory for a while!
  13. I apologize for not being clearer: I don't believe that Brandon Sanderson is fond of situations where he pulls a twist, such as bringing a character back from the dead, unless he has a compelling reason to do so, and so long as it can be somewhat predicted by smart readers. Having Spook turn out to be an already established character doesn't feel like something he would do, though admittedly this is more of an opinion than concrete proof.
  14. I think that they are common for Metalborn among criminals, as their powers would be useful for those sorts of enterprises, so more Coinshots would be willing to try their luck as outlaws. They are rare in that not many people are Coinshots compared to the total population, but they are obviously common enough that people still see them on a regular basis, especially since many of their jobs involve Steeljumping around the city.
  15. Temporal Allomancy does effect Emotional Allomancy, and it could be used to amplify or reduce the effect, depending on how it's used. I don't remember Breeze saying or teaching that. But, I also haven't really read Mistborn era 1 in a while. Could you please tell me where he says that? I don't think that Emotional Allomancy has that big of an impact on your psyche, even when brought to duralumin-levels of power. TLM spoilers... Even full-blown Shards of Adonalsium cannot control someone unless their soul is cracked open enough, and the only way we've seen that be accomplishable is with Hemalurgy. No matter how much duralumin and bendalloy you used to enhance your Emotional Allomancy, you wouldn't be able to puppeteer someone (though obviously, you could influence them).
  16. By this reasoning the medallions used by Wax and the gang should have granted Feruchemical brass and iron to the whole group without the need to continue using the medallions, since the powers would have been permanently granted - but we see it doesn't work that way; the gang doesn't still have those powers after they stop tapping the medallions, so storing should also be a temporary thing, as most Feruchemy is. Yes, it's supposed to be like a Coppermind in some ways (apparently), but when Wax used the Bands of Mourning, he mentions that they would have run out of Investiture stores (the actual ability to use the Invested powers) if nobody compounded the nicrosil stores. I think that maybe Brandon meant that they were like Copperminds in that you have different powers you can choose to store, rather than needing to store everything you have? The quote is rather confusing to me, I'll admit.
  17. You don't permanently lose powers you store in Nicrosil Feruchemically. You're thinking of Hemalurgy.
  18. It's true that we don't know for certain yet that Spook as passed away, but I don't necessarily think that Allomancer Jak is Spook. First off, as @Frustration mentions, Tineyes aren't that rare. Plus, if Spook were actually Allomancer Jak, wouldn't he be using all of his Mistborn powers and not just tin? Lastly - and admittedly this is more of a personal opinion - but I don't think that Sanderson is the type to pull this kind of stunt either; he has stated that he doesn't like to bring characters back from the dead, so doing something like this doesn't seem to fit his style.
  19. Thanks @Frustration! Well, looks like we have confirmation now that Honorblades really can't heal spiritual damage. I bet this is because Honorblades do not suffuse your being with Investiture the way the Nahel Bond does, which sounds important. I do hope that Sanderson will get into the Realmatics of the differences between Honorblades and Radiant Bonds though, as I'm still confused as to why they function so differently in some ways. They both are made up of what appears to be similar amounts of Investiture, and they both spiritually Bond individuals to those sources of Investiture, but they don't seem to do so in the same way.
  20. I can't find any info on whether she was a natural Metalborn in the Coppermind Wiki or the Arcanum. However, if she did have an innate power, it wasn't stolen via Hemalurgy; she was killed with a bullet to the head by her Feruchemist maid.
  21. I got the idea that an Honorblade couldn't heal spiritual damage caused by a Shardblade from reading Szeth's observations in WoK. But, he may also be wrong about needing to take ten heartbeats to summon an Honorblade, so his word isn't necessarily law. So maybe you can heal from spiritual damage via any Honorblade, but you need to have the right perception or maybe just a lot more Stormlight than you would realistically have access to.
  22. It's also possible that it was some form of Spiritual damage, and since Honorblades cannot heal Shardblade wounds (with the exception of the two Honorblades that grand the surge of Progression), so Moash couldn't heal his eyes either. That's how I thought it worked, anyway.
  23. But those are Unsealed Metalminds, not Unkeyed ones. I thought that the Set had made those by experimenting with Hemalurgically granted Feruchemical aluminum? It would be weird for Mr. Suit to mention that they could "make others weak" while he and his peers get to be strong, which sounds a whole lot like they know how to produce Unkeyed Metalminds.
  24. But why would she have such a full Unkeyed Goldmind if she couldn't use it? I suppose that makes sense. Hmmm. That could also explain it.
  25. As a Hemalurgic conasuir, I can say that it probably won't be too bad. Probably. Hemalurgy is dangerous, but with mag-tech evolving as it is currently in the Cosmere, I see it becoming less of a threat than just another (albeit very fascinating and unique) manifestation of Investiture. Its biggest thing is that you can steal people's powers and make a single really Invested being (or many Invested beings), but with Southern Scadrien medallion tech, advancements in Awakening, and Roshar's Fabrials, it isn't going to be the only thing capable of such feats forever; power is becoming more accessible to the masses, not the individual few. My assumption is that aluminum, when used in Hemalurgy, steals all Invested powers, but because aluminum itself cannot conduct Investiture, the Hemalurgic charge isn't kept to be stappled onto someone else. This would explain why aluminum "removes all powers". As Hemalurgy actually removes a piece of the Spiritweb, yes, powers removed via aluminum Hemalurgy would be permanently lost if not regenerated via some other form of Investiture (though in the case of aluminum Hemalurgy, you would likely require an outside source to heal you, since your Invested healing just got excised by the spiking).
