    Night's Blossom's demeanor shifted immediately, her eyes hardening as she looked at her sister. "Which do you think me: stupid or weak-willed?"

    Night's Blossom nodded quietly, following Emily over to the quieter space. "It's good to see you," she murmured.

    Night's Blossom's eyes widened as she saw Emily approach. Her breath caught, and her heart rate began increasing despite her best efforts to control it. "Hello, Em," she said softly.

    Night's Blossom gave a cursory wave to the latest newcomer. "Hello. Welcome. You seem lost. Is everything all right?"

    "Actually, wait one second." Theona quickly folded one of her flyers into the rough shape of a flower, then sent a spark of magic into it, transforming it into living matter. The paper shifted erratically in her hands until she was holding a white and purple lily. "Here, take it. Unless you don't want it. That's fine too."

    "It's -" Verim broke down in hacking for a moment, "-nothing. I'll be fine."

    "Wonderfu-" Raviid broke into an intense fit of hacking coughs, dropping the plate he was holding and nearly doubling over. After a moment, he managed to straighten, the hand he'd held over his mouth covered in bright red droplets. "Hmm. That's not good."

    "If the girl has a plausible solution to offer, and we have no reasonable alternative at the moment, there's no reason to refuse other than sheer stubbornness."

    "I'm quite sure you didn't, much as you're endeavoring to prove my point at the moment." Raviid passed Ji a plate of food. "If you intend to continue getting stabbed, it's important to eat well."

    "I had little better to do. You have quite a pleasant sleeping face, by the way. I much prefer it to the usual scowl."

    Night's Blossom returned to digging, vaguely glad the stranger was bothering someone else for the moment. She glanced down at herself, frowning. She'd never really considered herself in the ways he'd mentioned, but the idea felt somehow wrong to her. She made a mental note to find looser clothing as soon as she could.

    "I am neither royalty nor especially attractive, at least not by any metric I am familiar with. Is there any link between conventional attractiveness and royal status in these lands?"
