I never needed you. The lies she told to the shadow of azalea started like this. Lies. Celia was a big liar. Just as she was about to say something to remind herself about where she was now, a thump behind her told her that a tree had fallen, being rotted to the core. How could I be so ignorant? I should be glad there's no Peacekeepers... There were peacekeepers nearby. Celia froze, hoping they wouldn't notice her. The vegetation of the park started withering around her, essentially screaming her location without words. I hate my thoughts.

I... Don't think it solves the problem or makes it less powerful. If anything, it would probably make the user more powerful. Again, take this with a grain of salt, but there's sort of a spirit in which smedry talents exist. They aren't like epics, where they can just outright have a power. A smedry talent is more of... A gimmick, one that is useful in some ways but also unhelpful in others. One of the most fundamental parts of a smedry talent is that it can't be turned off (although it can be controlled) and it reliably activates no matter what. Examples provided in the spoiler below:

A continuation. An aspiration. Things were finally going to change. Everyone, deep inside, despises change. "The mind is like carts in the mud," some philosopher once said, "No matter how hard we try, we always want to go back to the same old ruts. The same old ways." It was depreciating how true that saying was. Smedry talents started to appear. People tried to avoid talking about them, as if doing so would banish the strange power, but it hung in the air in a way that everyone knew. It was simply strange how people avoided change as an act of defiance towards accepting. Celia too had a talent. She avoided using it, but she knew she had it. Plants would die around her, wood would rot, food would spoil and plants would wilt. Which meant that she didn't like staying in the same place for too long. Caused too many problems when she did, so she became a wanderer. Endless of days spent going to nowhere, from a meaningless place. It was a good distraction for the mind.

Have you read Alcatraz? If you haven't, I highly recommend reading it (at least the first book), since it has the best examples of what a smedry talent is.

Hm. Maybe the GMs could have some suggestions for you, but historically tributes visiting the GM HQ before or after their death has not gone well. Saffron would be a great example (although I discourage you from pursuing similar things) or Ryn would too.

Just a tip especially for those who haven't read Alcatraz, smedry talents are meant to be some sort of everyday thing, like always forgetting where your keys are, or never hitting a target with a bow, or being really bad at math, but they benefit the user. Again, it's a bit hard to explain, but I'll just list some examples from the books: There's a character who always shows up late to everything, which means he nearly always survived things like traps, and for instance, if he gets shot, he'll arrive late to the bullet and whatnot. There's a character who has the talent of tripping at bad times, and he knows that if he trips, there's probably something important happening nearby. Those are just some examples, but that's the kind of thing that smedry talents are meant to be.

Tbh the real prize is completing your character arcs or doing what you wanted to do (Hence why I think having a leaderboard is a bit... Strange given the circumstances)

<Death! and lots of it!> As I've previously said, I am not going to continue arguing the same point.

YOU SHOULD READ ALCATRAZ! Just the first book should be enough, and the book is fairly short all things considered

I strongly disagree with this but I'm going to spare the GMs here and not expand on why. Again, disagree with parts of this, but I will refrain from continuing this meaningless discussion.

I mean I would prefer if the GMs reserved "lightning smite" style deaths (where the GMs directly kill characters without them standing a chance) until later, because people should at least be able to expect not to die within the first 72 hours People need to pay attention to how they may be perceived by others

Literally no one but me has argued with the GMs and felt strongly against it so like, Idk I'm trying not to reopen wounds here, but there is some stuff that I do wish there was an IM or someone to at least talk to about. I do think that part of the uniqueness of the games is the GMs being monsters but I mean also part of the games is the different people who play, and the interactions within (things like merp or Cassian, for instance) and I think that should be focused on, rather than promoting conflict by having the GMs be even more unfair.

That's okay. But that also means there needs to be more awareness on participants' and gamemakers' ends.

How about an Aether of Night hunger games? People can actually attain a copy of it on the forums, but it does involve a heavy reading price (aon isn't that bad, it's just long at points) Wait No ... Is it even Brandon Sanderson?

You don't technically need a character sheet for the pre-game RP.
