    "No. In fact, in here, they found the truth. Fill up the hole with Narration- You have infinite amounts of it, after all."

    The table opens up. A small hole, the size of a sewage pipe opens in the ground. It is completely empty, and only meters in depth. It ends in a point, and has strange engravings around the top, like something should be screwed on there.

    "Yes, but you will find the answer is more... Intuitive than just trying thirty-six options. You can, of course, cut the dice in half."

    "Correct." Desolation said, "It was a reference to the Liar's Paradox." Desolation pointed to the white die. While the black one had dots, the white one was engraved with strange foreign sigils. "You are... In trouble." Desolation motioned towards the die. "You face the final issue, the last thing stopping you from discovering the truth of Narration." His inky figure wiped away the spots that the dice were. There were two small holes, both the exact same size as either die. "Those dice must be put in the slots in a way that adds up to four." Desolation motioned at the white die with strange symbols. "You must, of course, use both dice available."

    Inside lies a stone room. It is perfectly round, and accented with strange characters. It is only a few meters in diameter, and less in height. In the center of the room lies a small wooden table, and on the table lies a pair of dice. One is white with black dots, and the other is black with white dots.

    Desolation motioned towards a doorway. "Within the door was the final test. Enter, and you will see."

    "Some were normal Humans. Back then, light and dark didn't exist the same way that they do now."

    Desolation followed, holding his Plotblade up to light the way. Foreshadowing started to glow with an otherworldly light. "We are close. There remains one final trial."

    Desolation followed. "Towards the center they sought."

    "No amount of Narration could recreate what they found," Desolation said, "Just like how no man can replant the forest he tore down to make a factory. The first Narrators knew what they were doing was going to be irreversible."

    The Narrators shifted around them. They crowded the area.

    "Correct."

    Desolation waits patiently. He understood the author's struggles.

    "The first Narrators walked these steps. If you are to learn their faults, you must too."
  16. Aeoryi
    Desolation nodded. "What was it they felt? We will never know. However, the journey continues within the well. It is bottomless, so you will have to Narrate the end of the well when we enter." He turned to Rebus. "Ready?"

    Desolation enters the building. The interior is dark, and the entire thing appears to be hollow. "When the first Narrators came here, they found this room empty. It was once a well, they thought, that could draw on the Narrative in safe amounts. But they desired more."

    Desolation smiled. "When they arrived, the Narrative within was so strong that they could step through the walls. It called to them with its infinite power." His eyes narrowed and his smile vanished. "Now, a single Narrator would be able to do what they did. There is simply no other way inside the structure."

    Desolation forms in front of the building. It is still poorly illuminated, but it towers over Rebus prime and Desolation. "As you may notice, there is no way into the building. That was the first trial they had to face."

    "Yes." Desolation mused, "It'd be far better to step through the Narrative here, the structure is rather far away from here." Desolation waited to see what Rebus' would do.

    He finds himself in a elevated meadow, overlooking a mountainous landscape. The mountains sweep away to reveal a valley, and a dark outline of a massive building is lodged within the valley. "The place where they first found Narration," Desolation said, gesturing to the building, "Is right there. You could reach that point in seconds, by stepping through the Narrative. However, you would miss this view. With Narration, perspective is lost."

    " Narration is rightfully feared by many." Desolation says, "Those who pursue it are cursed." A portal opened up on the ground. A mountainous landscape barely illuminated by faint moonlight stood beyond. "The truth of Narration awaits."

    "Narration twists your soul to an amalgamated shape. Before long, it will discard you and move on."

    "Quick results make quick friends for the simple-minded" "There is no way for authors to die!" Desolation roared. "That is simply a fact."
