  1. Hello, back with another stream. This is another writer's showcase, and I'll be the last one reading.

And if that's not interesting, here's a few other streams that might interest you. First one is a Revenge of the Sith discussion and debate (First two hours is discussion, Second two are debate), a writer's discussions where we talk about certain technical aspects in writing, like Multi-POVs and how to justify strange weapons, and because this is the Shard, a Mistborn Stream and Sanderson stream. Check one of them out, they are really fun.

  2. Not necessarily. The forms they have are made of investiture, but they don't have to be leaking. It's possible to make gemstone that can hold stormlight indefinitely, so the spren could be like that.
  3. Well, it's been a while since I have done anything here. Since I'm visiting, I decided to post recent work for all of you. It a small thing for a Flash Fiction Tourney on Discord, so I shouldn't have any problems sharing it. The goal was Discovery Steampunk and we were limited to no more than 2k words. The votes are still coming in, but for the time being, I am winning. Huzzah! And yes, this is on Shadiversity's Discord. Enjoy, and pls ignore the formatting issues, i can;t fix that, it just happens when you paste it on here from docs. (Note, this actually did win the tourney, surprisingly.)
  4. Oddly enough, I ended up doing this recently also partly because of Brandon, though it was from him saying you need to find a way to keep yourself motivated in a vid, and also my friend and I have calculated how much I need to write to finish my current work in a year, which I need to work on doing to improve my pace.
  5. For all those who do not like Graphic Novels (Or just the WS graphic Novels) I know how you can get the White Sands Manuscript without having to join Brandon's Newsletter. DM if you want to know.

Also, I finished White Sands in five days (200k word book in five days, let's go!) a week ago, I have officially read every single Cosmere Material there is. My ascension is complete, mortals. You have my permission to be impressed now.

No, those aren't canon, so I don't care for now. Also, feels great as someone analyzing BS's work on a technical level, it is interesting to see how his writing has progressed. I might make a post about that if people are interested. BS has a lot of patterns that he defaults to, especially with relationships.

You should definitely do that! That sounds very interesting!

5 days?! come on! you're a die-hard fan; it should only take you 2, tops.

      ...jk :)

  6. I've asked him a question relating to Kelsier's state and if whatever Ishar is doing with Spren could help him and he said yes, so it is highly likely Kelsier is Thaidakar
  7. Okay, I swear I have heard that Brandon was going to change the rules of Atium for the Mistborn films to make it so any Scadrian can use it because of its nature as a godmetal. Does anyone know what WoB or source this could have come from, or have I just gone mad and made my friend panic for no reason?
  8. So... does anybody here actually care about Dark One? Curious.

I feel like it is important, but as of yet, I don't care about it very much.

  9. Yes. @Chaos It does not appear to have been moved, as you can still see the question in that section of the forum, where someone has already broken the rule an hour after you did this. Hope you're wedding went well.
  10. If every despot in history then proceeded to try and become a better person and make up for what they had done, then yes. Dalinar did not simply feel bad, he acted on that feeling. Definition of the word pruned Summary: removing bad part of a plant so it can continue to grow. She removed the trauma from Dalinar so he could continue to grow. There is nothing saying she dictates how.
  11. And I find you are taking too much credit away from him. We can do this for eternity mate. We have acknowledged he had help, we are just making it clear that the path and decisions he made were still him. That we see that he didn't have to become a better person, that he could have not become a better person, but he does. You cannot take that away from him. That is by your standards. I agree he has not been redeemed yet but that he is on the right track to doing so Yes, he would not have been strong enough to resist Odium. I don't see how that's a point against his character to not being capable of resisting a Shard without another Shard giving a helping hand. It's a pretty difficult thing to do. And yeah, he nearly did fall, but he didn't, because he had grown strong enough to handle the memories and take a step forward. No, quite the opposite, you're the one constantly misleading and overstating what she did when she outright states what she did. @ScadrianTank ALready gave you the quote and explained it pretty well (credit to him) but she did not reset him. He was no empty vessel, he still had this need to drink, he still was a tactical genius, he was still guilty for not helping his brother, he still had his love for Navani and his sons, and he had already had an interest in the Way of Kings and still does after the memories, so how was he an empty vessel? Mate. You do understand that people can change over several years, yes? That he has been trying to follow the codes and follow a path of Honor, which he hadn't been doing pre-nightwatcher? Why do you just keep making everything Cultivation. It's the 'it was me, barry!' meme all over again. Actually, screw it, I'm making that meme. Here. No, I like him because he knows what he did was wrong, feels guilty about it, and has been trying to make himself a better person, even to the point of writing a book revealing what he had done, which could not have been easy. Also, he has definitely done that first ideal, you haven't proven otherwise. He recognizes the importance of the journey by OB, and how it's the journey to change is as important as the change. I don't hate Moash. And I have mixed feelings about Amaram because he has signs of being delusional, being a Son of Honor. So what different treatment?
  12. Why does he have to? She didn't! That's the point you don't seem to understand, the only thing she did is remove the memories, he still had all the obstacles that path would have, just not the trauma of what he did at the Rift, which he received later when he had the strength to handle it, which we know he could've still not been, he could've chosen the other, easier at and joined Odium but doesn't, that choice is still his, the credit is still is, how do you not understand this?
  13. We have seen visions of the future be wrong. they are possibilities, not certainties. Emphasizing the importance of choice. Can someone not want to change for themselves? Why is it selfish to want to be a better person for yourself? No, she did not. She makes it clear he could've taken a different path, granting Odium a weapon. She relieved the burden so he could have the strength to take the next steps, but he was the one to decide to take the next steps.
  14. he only asks twice actually. he says forgiveness first, and then he clarifies if he can ever be forgiven. there is no third. ...that's a pretty big thing. And I think you're forgetting that when he is sober he is desperate for drink because there are other times he is sober when he is able to hold himself together. That isn't him being fine, that's him trying to not show what he considers weakness to anyone. You assume they are supernatural. I get there is a precedent that it could be by Szeth, but there is nothing saying it is, and he doesn't have to feel bad for the voices haunting him if he thinks he's right. Sort of like a misguided someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. Alright, listen here. We have confirmation that Dalinar could've fallen to Odium. Cultivation literally says she would not give him the strength or anything to change, just pruning. The story is literally telling you that the change is Dalinar. He had help, yes, but people need help to change, everyone needs help to change. You are simplifying it. You can want the screaming gone and feel bad and want to change, the screams serving as a constant reminder. Sadeas didn't feel bad for his part in it, and he was the one who suggested the plan. Dalinar did not have to feel bad for what he did, but he does, and wants to change. Yes, he hopes the screams will go away then, but you can have both selfish and selfless intentions for the same goal. Would a depressed person stop being depressed without the help of his therapist? Possibly, but that doesn't take away about what the depressed person did to not become depressed. Both get credit for their part, you can just take it away because someone gave a helping hand.
  15. he doesn't ask it from them, you're taking the first one as him asking forgiveness from them when he is saying he wants forgiveness. And yes, I have read the scene, I have the book right here. He does recognize her as such when they meet And you dislike his beginning because he didn't immediately start repenting despite his mental state being near mad, and keep saying he doesn't care about the people he hurt. he clearly does, that's the guilt he feels, and him asking a higher power that dictates morality does not mean he doesn't care. It's not like he can ask the dead for forgiveness. He feels guilty, that's why the voices affect him so much. The reason he even has the voices is because of his guilt, so yes, he feels bad. he didn't have to feel bad, the Alethi supported what he had done and saw it as just, if brutal. Instead, the people he killed haunted him. You are going to have to accept that.
  16. Did you ignore my post? He did not ask for forgiveness from the Nightwatcher or Cultivation, he asked, "Can I ever be forgiven", which is very different, your argument is pointless.
  17. Remember that he didn't go there planning to ask for forgiveness, it was a very spur-of-the-moment thing after hearing and seeing things and being in a very bad state in mind, and I'm referring to literally before he asks the Nightwatcher, he sees and hears things. Oh, and he doesn't ask for forgiveness from the Nightwatcher, he asks, "Can I ever be forgiven", a line I guarantee you have forgotten because it disproves your entire argument. He is asking whether or not he is capable or ever will be capable of being forgiven for what he had done, if it was even possible, which is reasonable to ask when you do not think you are a good person yourself. So yes, he does care. But as I have proven, he had the want. He went all the way to a being he considered heresy to meet. When given the choice of keeping or losing the memories, he decided he didn't deserve the memories of her and allowed the process to finish. he had the want. You mean like allowing a Shard to take your memories of a person you cherish? And trying to get peace of mind so he can become a better person? No, he was trying, like I said, e mentioned doing things like going to the Vorin church to get peace, which he dies need if he's going to improve, you can expect someone whose depressed and lazy to not be lazy without fixing the depressed part, and he can't fix that on his own, he needs help, and the Alethi were never going to give him that help. SO he went to his last resort, a heretical being that his wife had mentioned.

I FOUND WHERE THE SONG WAS< I KNEW I RECOGNIZED IT

  19. He was traumatized by his experiences, he could hear storming voices in his head, he was not in a state of mind to try and do that. Also, he was neglectful of his children, not abusive. mate, he heard voices, are you going to blame him for trying? He mentioned trying other ways to give himself peace, like going to the Vorin chruch, and it didn't work. Now he's trying to ask this being for help, a being he considered heresy to meet. He clearly had the want, he was just struggling too much with the memories he held.
  20. He wanted to be better, he just did not know how. Him not knowing what he wanted to be doesn't disclude that he wanted to be better. Otherwise, why would he feel guilty, and why would he go to seek help?
  21. I never said worthy, I said he made the first changes, he had the want. Cultivation made it possible, but it was still him that chose to go to her and accept the boon.
  22. Dalinar had already changed by the time he went to the forest, feeling terrible for all he had done. That is why Cultivation helped him. her interference wasn't the first change that was made, he made the first one, and asked for help when the trauma he was facing wouldn't let him continue, so she relieves him of the trauma until he is strong enough to accept it. It is still all Dalinar, he just needed some help to keep from stumbling.
  23. That is probably it, considering the guy's ego.
  24. Hmm, the implication of a storm that never dies while another storm ends makes me think that the Highstorm will die while the Everstorm rages on. Interesting collection of thoughts and theory. Well constructed and well made. I will say that I find it unlikely that BS would do that, as it does not seem his style, he seems more like the type to make the choice of mercy a good thing, but the theory is good and makes sense.
  25. I watched a video that I find poorly made and I'm sharing my thoughts on why. Think that's fair especially when people keep referencing it as a great example of someone criticizing The Emporer's Soul. How does this definition contradict my point? It's still not what he is doing. Your argument implied such. But agreed, you did say to a degree. Him sharing his thoughts does not make him immune to criticism. He made judgment calls on the novella itself, which can be responded to, and even if this was just sharing his experience, I still claim it's poorly made when he could try and explain the reason for why he may have felt this way with another, I don't know, two minutes. Just two. Nothing you've said counters my point that the video and his arguments are not well made and could have been developed more, you've just been giving him excuses and implying I should not be so 'harsh' on him.
