Well, it's been a while since I have done anything here. Since I'm visiting, I decided to post recent work for all of you. It a small thing for a Flash Fiction Tourney on Discord, so I shouldn't have any problems sharing it. The goal was Discovery Steampunk and we were limited to no more than 2k words. Cultivation literally says she would not give him the strength or anything to change, just pruning. The story is literally telling you that the change is Dalinar. He had help, yes, but people need help to change, everyone needs help to change. You are simplifying it. You can want the screaming gone and feel bad and want to change, the screams serving as a constant reminder. Sadeas didn't feel bad for his part in it, and he was the one who suggested the plan. Dalinar did not have to feel bad for what he did, but he does, and wants to change. Yes, he hopes the screams will go away then, but you can have both selfish and selfless intentions for the same goal. Would a depressed person stop being depressed without the help of his therapist? Possibly, but that doesn't take away about what the depressed person did to not become depressed. Both get credit for their part, you can just take it away because someone gave a helping hand.

Remember that he didn't go there planning to ask for forgiveness, it was a very spur-of-the-moment thing after hearing and seeing things and being in a very bad state in mind, and I'm referring to literally before he asks the Nightwatcher, he sees and hears things. Oh, and he doesn't ask for forgiveness from the Nightwatcher, he asks, "Can I ever be forgiven", a line I guarantee you have forgotten because it disproves your entire argument. He is asking whether or not he is capable or ever will be capable of being forgiven for what he had done, if it was even possible, which is reasonable to ask when you do not think you are a good person yourself. So yes, he does care. But as I have proven, he had the want. He went all the way to a being he considered heresy to meet. When given the choice of keeping or losing the memories, he decided he didn't deserve the memories of her and allowed the process to finish. he had the want. You mean like allowing a Shard to take your memories of a person you cherish? And trying to get peace of mind so he can become a better person? He wanted to be better, he just did not know how. Him not knowing what he wanted to be doesn't disclude that he wanted to be better. Otherwise, why would he feel guilty, and why would he go to seek help?

I never said worthy, I said he made the first changes, he had the want. Cultivation made it possible, but it was still him that chose to go to her and accept the boon.

Dalinar had already changed by the time he went to the forest, feeling terrible for all he had done. That is why Cultivation helped him. her interference wasn't the first change that was made, he made the first one, and asked for help when the trauma he was facing wouldn't let him continue, so she relieves him of the trauma until he is strong enough to accept it. It is still all Dalinar, he just needed some help to keep from stumbling.

Hmm, the implication of a storm that never dies while another storm ends makes me think that the Highstorm will die while the Everstorm rages on. Interesting collection of thoughts and theory. Well constructed and well made. I will say that I find it unlikely that BS would do that, as it does not seem his style, he seems more like the type to make the choice of mercy a good thing, but the theory is good and makes sense.

I watched a video that I find poorly made and I'm sharing my thoughts on why. Think that's fair especially when people keep referencing it as a great example of someone criticizing The Emporer's Soul. How does this definition contradict my point? It's still not what he is doing. Your argument implied such. But agreed, you did say to a degree. Him sharing his thoughts does not make him immune to criticism. He made judgment calls on the novella itself, which can be responded to, and even if this was just sharing his experience, I still claim it's poorly made when he could try and explain the reason for why he may have felt this way with another, I don't know, two minutes. Just two. Nothing you've said counters my point that the video and his arguments are not well made and could have been developed more, you've just been giving him excuses and implying I should not be so 'harsh' on him.
