I love loved Lift's chapter. Her interactions with the Sibling and Wyndle were *chefs kiss* I liked seeing her further character progression along the lines of her oaths, with her work with Gavinor as well as her remembering that Wyndle has feelings too and making him feel included. I have to think the secret handshake is going to come up at an important point later. But I gotta say this - I have been real nervous every time Gav comes onscreen, and her convo with him about sometimes having to break the rules did NOT help that feeling. I am seriously concerned that Gavinor’s storyline is going to wreck me. Renarin and Rlain chapter was so sweet, and Renarin tearing up was touching. More please. For the visions, they kinda skipped past the Dalinar one like oh we already have seen that, but I bet it's going to be more important and this assumption is causing them to miss something. Also do we know the Truthwatcher shardplate spren? Is is Awespren? Between this, and her antilight worry earlier and Patterns insistence from beginning that she would kill him... maybe Pattern's storyline is the one that will wreck me not just Gavinor’s.

Deleted - thought it was different thread

Iyatil was clear in last week's chapter - she didn't expect Shallan to infiltrate and was surprised that Shallan impersonated as one of her own people. There is nothing more to it, no trick. They've been outsmarted too quickly, which we have to accept, even if this is disappointing. I agree there is not more to it, I think she did truly get the drop on the Ghostbloods, else her character development in these chapters of finding her courage to do this as Shallan vs Veil would be undermined. But I also think the folks saying she got off too easy may be assuming too much - I suspect there will be some sort of consequences to her taking the anti-light into her system, that may come up in the following chapter. I think it is still in her system - how will they get it out safely? Are we sure it is really anti stormlight and not voidlight and could give Odium some access to her - similar to how being spiked let Ruin talk to people? I'm not really sure what is coming but I do suspect this incident is going to have some big ramification. Also re Kaladin and Szeth:

Interesting idea. And the two of them are not just two like minded people, or just bound in marriage people, they are both Bondsmiths. If anyone could do it, that is the most likely folks that could somehow manage it. Though I could see it more likely if it was like a combo-shard maybe, they both ascended and bind themselves and the Shards together.

Snipers. Which unfortunately sounds like the crossbow Mraize is practicing with. Though a good steel-push on a metal dart would probably be more accurate and longer range, if they have any allomancers or medallions.

An idea for the missing Odium + Cultivation Intent

My theory has always been Malignance. Cancerous growth, a growing hatred. Terrifying indeed.- 26 replies

I'm thinking a Larkin egg. Or a lesser dragon. I think this is a foreshadowing that there will be a kandra reveal in this book. Not necessarily Mraize, but this is foreshadowing by introducing the idea of duplicates or people being replaced. Calling it now - Wit takes them to his conversation with Odium and uses this to figure out what was modified in his memory. And from this, they figure out it's Taravangian. More foreshadowing I think that Kaladin might do it, not Dalinar.

That's exactly how I read it - sounds like ADHD to me.

So there seems to be a connection to Honor Yeah I was theorizing from this one that Ba-Ado-Mishram was like a first attempt at the Sibling which was then Unmade since the Sibling is considered a child of both.
-
Honestly I could see it. I even had the thought in this week's chapter, when the Stormfather say about Honor's plan: Dalinar assumes something else, but what if it really is working with Kaladin. That he has been groomed and developed that he'll be able to pick up the shard? Thinking back to the prologue What if the words are more like "give it to me, I must take it" but with different intent - a doing of one's duty, taking and bearing a burden rather than a lust for power. I could see Kaladin doing this - very "Honor is dead but I'll see what I can do"
-
And then perhaps that "child of Tanavast" becomes a line of people descended from him, including Kaladin?

CRAZY idea about Odium's Champion, and 'voidbringers'
Dreamwa1ker replied to elihaun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh the comment about making him his heir was more that Kaladin literally thinks to himself that would make him and Adolin brothers, which means they could be the brothers in the death rattle. My fear is not about them fighting over title/heirship but rather that they end up being the opposing champions in the contest (since there are some Adolin is Odium's champion theories going around) -
CRAZY idea about Odium's Champion, and 'voidbringers'
Dreamwa1ker replied to elihaun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I like this take on this death rattle of it being Gavilar and Dalinar, vs my current fear of it being Adolin and Kaladin now that Dalinar is making him heir and Kaladin's thought about them being brothers now -
I kind of love this idea, it would be cool follow through from Dalinar and Taravangian's fireside chat. It does make me think of some things from which is a notable influence for Brandon going way back.

Have you read Mistborn Secret History? I think that would be important

I think what will happen is Skybreakers attack, but then we have the foreshadowing from the interaction between Navani and the Sibling, that they can do new things now that they couldn't before - so this will result in Navani helping turn the Sibling/Urithiru into a big airship/spaceship. This would not be disappointing to me at all, it would be an awesome moment and culmination of a lot of things from Navani's arc: her confidence as a scientist, her designs and ideas for an airship going way back to her doodles in earlier books, and makes her mobile despite the setup we now have of her having to stay with the Sibling. And ties with this whole theme of the new Radiants doing new things.

I took that quote to imply that she may also need Ba-Ado-Mishram to be freed/restored/wherever that plotline is going, since Pattern specifically calls out the fact that there were not deadeyes in the past.

Colot is Knights of Wind and Truth author confirmed! /s (sorry couldn't resist the crempost) He has shown up a lot this book which makes me think either he is going to die, perhaps heroically, or he's a spy.

Wow I just read this one. It seems like he must be sort of in the Cognitive realm, but perhaps moreso than Lift is. Having to be looking for him to see him, or having to try to kill him to touch him, sound like Intent shenanigans potentially. It sounds like a great powerset for a ninja. I am figuring this is probably setting him up for something more important in the back half.
-
I hadn't thought of this but it is an interesting idea. Hiding it under the potential reading of it as just referring to her time as a secret Elsecaller is the kind of thing Brandon has done before in terms of foreshadowing. I think the most compelling argument is the potential that it is tied to her "madness" as a child. But I wonder if we won't get to know more until her book in back half.

I'm certain it won't happen, but a girl can dream: The Shattering of Adonalsium. Tanavast was there, it is key info for a future Vessel to have so it could make sense for him to include this when setting up the visions. Narratively, this certainly could be the point where we get something on page about the Shattering because we are getting all this stuff about Hoid onscreen now, it would help contextualize that and be kind of a turning point/new era of Cosmere books. And this could be how we get the name of the last Shard. Maybe more realistically: what Roshar was like before the Shards arrived vs after, and the forming of the Oathpact. Maybe the forming of the Oathpact? Or whatever happened near Threnody to cause things to be so messed up there?

Tor posted the endpapers on Facebook today. I think they are showing Taln, Tanavast/Honor, Koravellium Avast/Cultivation, and Battar. Cultivation's image has the Nightwatcher lower right, which I missed at first. I was wondering what the crystal-like shape in front of Tanavast was - a representation of a Shard? But with Cultivation having the Nightwatcher I wonder if this one is a representation of the Stormfather somehow. Or it's the Wind- it looks much more like some of Kaladin's unusual Wind moment like parting the highstorm in OB. Taln we have seen before so I don't have much comment. I LOVE the image of Battar but I feel like we don't know much about her yet. I can't determine what she is holding or manipulating in this picture with her safehand, the other hand seems to have a flower or plant. She also is in front of a moon like the Ishar image. Do we have 3 moons between all the herald endpapers?
