Dangling Plot Threads - What Will We Find In Book 5
ScadrianTank replied to Crylorenzo's topic in Stormlight Archive
Also, we still don't understand much about Dalinar's unusual visions of Nohadon and impressions of warmth and light. Brandon said that the fifth book is going to have many Dalinar moments and, hopefully, he will explain these as well. -

Dangling Plot Threads - What Will We Find In Book 5
ScadrianTank replied to Crylorenzo's topic in Stormlight Archive
It seems likely that we'll find out what the hell Gavilar wanted to do in general and why he needed all these different types of Light. Did he just intend to kill Fused permanently, or maybe he wanted to use it to somehow destroy Heralds' connection to Braize? -
Thaidakar the Knowledge and Possibilities
ScadrianTank replied to Karger's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The answer to that is simple, I think. We saw a Cognitive Shadow that sustained purely through it's Connection to the Shard unchained. It's Jezrien and, he's dead. -
Questiture for Investiture!
ScadrianTank replied to silver-the-ridgerunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
As I already said in a different thread, it seems likely that GBs are looking for BAM to replicate whatever it was they did in connecting to the Singers. Persuade BAM to Connect to Kel's avatar (which may or may not be a Kandra he took control of with emotional Allomancy), then staple his Shadow to that avatar or something like that?- 6 replies

I think that @Naerin is completely correct about Kel becoming Thaidakar. So it's easy then, right? Kel joined and overtook what became the Ghostbloods and used at least a branch of them to secure access to unkeyed Investiture and his freedom. Kalak's words then make sense because he would literally know the old Thaidakar. If we look at it this way, the name also fits since it's very like Kelsier to name an organization like a street gang. What is bothering me is the timeline of Ghostbloods emerging as an organization. Even after his Ascension, Kelsier doesn't have enough influence and knowledge of Cosmere to create a galaxy-spanning organization in two to three hundred years, at least some of which he spent on South Scadrial making sure people there survive the Catacendre. Therefore the GBs would have to be in place and strength at least as early as the Recreance but not on Roshar. So it's either Hoid underestimates the GBs or Mraize overestimates them. And neither of these sounds plausible.
-
To do that, or what I suggested, Kelsier and BAM would need to be much closer to one another than either of them is capable of at the moment. Maybe that is why the GB's wanted to get their hands on a Herald, to see if it works on another Cognitive Shadow Connected directly to a Shard?
-
I think that it's to do with how they Connected to the singers after the Recreance to grant voidlight. The simplest application for this type of Connection manipulation would be to have her Connect to Kelsier and imprison her again, ripping away all of Kel's Connection to Scadrial and making him free to stroll about the cosmere. There is also this WoB. XS-Terrain Also, does each of the Unmade have a corresponding order of the Knights Radiant? Brandon Sanderson Eh... Kind of. XS-Terrain Ok. So there are nine Unmade right, so which one is left out? Brandon Sanderson Bondsmith. But it's not as one to one, there's some fuzziness in there. Oathbringer San Francisco signing (Nov. 15, 2017) Having this and her Connecting to the Singers in mind, I speculate that what she did was take away or weaken their Connection to Honor and\or Roshar and replaced it with a Connection to themselves. Then, utilizing their own Connection to Odium, they gave the voidlight to the Singers. If the part about them being able to weaken Connections is correct, they may try to use this ability on Stormlight spheres to transport it from the Roshar System or on Kelsier's Connection to Scadrial,

I enjoyed the book a lot, though I agree @Harbour that parts one and two were the best. Still, I enjoyed the Cosmere references, and most importantly Navani. Although, Dalinar's chapters in Oathbringer remain my favorite. Her discovering how to damage the soul was something I expected, doing it with magical antimatter was not. Some things from my prediction text file that I find very funny, now that I finished the book. The Stormfather refers to someone other than Kaladin as "Child of Tanavast", possibly Leshwi. Shallan summons her plate before Kaladin. Shallan fully joins the Ghostbloods. Restares reveals why Heleran tried to kill Amaram. Navani invents a way to damage the soul with fabrials by mimicking Nightblood. Navani awakens the Tower, but it's different from how it was before. Navani becomes a Radiant. Szeth helps Navani somehow. Either Venli or Rlain dies by the end of the book. Taln has a lucid moment before/during the assault on the tower. Mraize name reveal. Ghostbloods have access to fabrial guns. Odium un-invests at least one of the Fused. Kandra worldhopper reveal. One of the smaller characters swears the Fourth ideal. And the one that wounds me most because I wished it to be true so badly: Dalinar catches something.
-
While I did hope Dalinar would catch something in this book, I did not expect it to be that kind of disease.
-
The same is probably true of the Edgedancers, but yes. I still think that the death of a Radiant of an order that is historically small and secretive would be a bigger blow to the coalition than a field medic.
-
Not only does that the coalition have Stonewards, but we will likely see how their surges work in the text. Hopefully, four other characters tagging along with Adolin and Shallan on yet another journey through Shadesmar will make it more dynamic. Also, we should start placing bets on which Radiant will die on the expedition to Lasting Integrity. I bet on the Truthwatcher.

Double the irony for the chasmfiends? And a warning for the skyeels...

I think that if Jasnah just stopped slavery legally, we'll see lighteyes and Highprinces institute version of serfdom on their lands. Released slaves will just be put into menial labor for 16 hours a day with horrible wages, part of which they'll use to pay taxes. Even Jasnah won't be able to solve the nation's labor issues with a proclamation or an edict just a few years after it lost its supply of cheap labor.

It seems that I vastly underestimated the number of applications for extreme physical force. For some reason, I thought that only one of the powers of Pewter would suffice. I guess it says more about how little physical work I had to do in my life than anything else.
-
I think the largest advantage of this combination is not the Compounding but the ability to store "excess" senses like touch or smell. It negates a large part of Kelsier's speech about the consequences of Tin. There is also a part of me that can't stop thinking that while Compounding is powerful, its usefulness is limited. Imagine how Era 3 will look like with Metalborn powers up for sale most metals when Compounded provide a lot more power than the wast majority would need in any situation outside of emergencies. The only practical uses I can see are Metalmind recharging and physical metals in firefighting brigades and rescue services.

Remember, how in The Well of Ascension, Zane saw Vin's Atium shadow split when he countered a blow that she hadn't yet dealt? What if you could split your own Electrum shadow with Feruchemical Zinc? If you were analyzing what is happening to your shadow faster than your body can start to act, the effect should theoretically be the same. It can be useful in bomb disposal or electrical maintenance of dangerous systems.

Something I'd like to point out is that Vasher is talking to Invested entities, not BioChromatic entities. So he mush have broadened the classification the Five Scholars came up with during their research of BioChroma to include all types of Investiture. Also, on the topic of Vasher, it may be the time to start thinking about how he can draw in Stormlight. It doesn't seem right to me that he would be able to slurp some Stormlight just because his Divine Breath gets hungry for Invested juice. If it was the case, anyone "in need" would be able to use Stormilight to fuel any other magic system. Unless the Returned are really like plants, eating sunlight in an Invested photosynthesis kind of process. The Read-Along article mentions a good theory on how he may be doing that.

Do we know if the Singers can change form by bonding with True spren? Is Nahel bond the only way a sapient spren can be bonded with?
-
I think you people are overthinking that comment about a Radiant of the Fourth ideal. Given what Raboniel had heard during this meeting, her comment likely refers to Kaladin, who, according to Lezian, might have sworn that oath. The epigraph is quite intriguing, however. At first, I thought that logicspren provide some level of automation or control over the function of a fabrial. If we assume that Oathgates operate using two spren because they fulfill two distinct functions, one oversees the mechanism that verifies the key and checks the destination while the other actually uses the Surge of Transportation, logicspren may act in a similar to the first one on a smaller scale. But since we haven't seen any fabrials that may require this level of complexity, other than the Oathgates themselves, it seems unlikely.
-
I think that the theoretical value of Stormlight is in its properties as fuel. Roshar has an energy source more that is easier to obtain than electricity and which might be more efficient. We haven't seen any way to use it this way, other than by those with access to an Invested art, that doesn't mean that there are none. The problem is that the Ghostbloods are unlikely to view it this way, even knowing that they were to Scadrial and saw electricity there. What may be more likely is that Stormlight can be used in that method of slow aging that Silverlight and Seventeenth shard use. Also, Mraize's words about Investiture being hard to transport from its source has me thinking if the same holds for God metals.
-
Well, we haven't seen a Singer bond to a sapient Voidspren either, IIRC. The two examples of those we saw were Ulik and the one that guided Sah and his group to Kholinar.
-
I think we might have seen a human bonded to a Voidspen. Aesudan's "Radiants" were bonded to them, were they not?
-
While it sounds great, I don't think that characters with mental issues healing them with magic is good for the Cosmere. If I understand DID correctly, the merging of personalities happens over time, and you can't just go "Oh, I am actually only one person!" one day and have all personas puff away. It also cheapens the experience of the people struggling with these illnesses IRL.

Do we know why people thrash about while experiencing Honor's visions?
