  1. No, I haven't. Welcome to the Shard! Where everyone is polite and nice. People will give you cookies for free, will try to enlist you to their cults and/or sacrifice you! Did I say that out loud? Sorry, I'm in a weird mood today. Though you really should be wary of those cookies. Maybe you were already warned, but just in case. TPBM celebrates Purim tomorrow. In case said person has no idea what Purim is, he'd like an explanation.
  2. It's more like you responded too early. Now, I, personally, wasn't a victim of racism. But my people - the Jews - were, for hundreds of years. Sometimes I think about it and get extremely annoyed at all the antisemistics throughout history. And there are a lot of those. I never suffered from anything similar, because I live in Israel, where we're the majority. Still, thinking of what was done to my ancestors long before the Holocaust is... Unpleasant. TPBM fasts today.
  3. Similar, but not exactly the same: sheer stubbornness. Life are hard, but I want to keep living, so I will. I will grind my teeth and do that thing I hate, because I have to do it. Also, random jokes that I believe that only I will find funny. Whenever I think of such things my mood improves greatly, though any sane person would probably tell me that those are horrible jokes. Usually they include obscure references to books I've read. As long as I can make myself giggle, the world isn't lost.
  4. Nice story. Spoilers:
  5. From what I've seen of him, Larger is mostly a theorist. He's been on the Shard last about a week ago. Since I'm not active on the theory threads, I can't say whether or not he was less active lately. And I didn't know that Fish left, though I really didn't see him in a while.
  6. Sorry. Define "big". I mean, I can believe you that it's happening, but I definitely see you as one of the bigger Sharders. Assuming that "big" equals "someone that might appear in every thread you read or post at". Some of the relatively new Sharders are like that, but not all. And that might be just begginer's excitement (though, if that's what it is, I never had it that much).
  7. There you go: Not my best (who am I kidding, it might truly be my best, I'm really bad at making memes), but I tried.
  8. No, I actually think we will. It slowed down a bit, true, but I'm pretty sure it didn't reach a standstill. And there may be some last-moment backers/changes.
  9. Yes, I guess. But I generally pace when I think, too. TPBM has never disobeyed the thread's overlord by not writing a TPBM in their reply.
  10. Nope! No one will care much about it if I did, though. Especially after all the RPs I joined died. Though, funny story: before DramaQueen went off the Shard for a couple of months, one of the last replies I saw from her was threatening to leave the Shard because Fadran switched his pic with Truthless. It's not like I interacted with her much or anything, but I kind of thought she went through with it. TPBM isn't a native English speaker, but is considered as relatively fluent in it where he lives. When speaking to actual English speakers, though, said person finds themselves not that good. Very long, but basically describes my situation.
  11. Indeed. The thing is, I have done the unforgivable - I've read about books in Wikipedia before reading them - and I need to repent. Fun fact: the first time I encountered Mistborn was quite a few years ago, when my oldest brother brought a (God Beyond preserve us) translated copy home. I didn't read it, just asked him about the book, and then went on to... Well, I wrote that above. No need to mention my sins more than once. I read it a couple of years later, and already knew the twist. Too bad about that. I did that with one of my favorite books ever, too, and in both cases I noticed a difference in the feeling between reading the plot summary and reading the book. Which is kind of obvious, I guess. TPBM has been rickrolled lately.
  12. Do what Connie does: keep a notebook in your bed. Maybe I should try it, too... The problem is that I rarely ever have a room for myself, and I don't have a reading lamp by my bed.
  13. Welcome to the Shard! It appears you joined only to comment on the anouncements video thread. Not all too uncommon - there's a fine amount of people who signed just for the Aether of Night manuscript. Hopefully you'll join in on other things.

I must say that I'm a little surprised that this name wasn't already taken. Only a little, though.

  14. You can just say no. You know how many people didn't fit the TPBM of the person above them? But that's fine, I'm not committed to being a jerk. TPBM will yoddle with a sandal on their head (I probably misremembered, but hopefully the idea came through).
  15. I have, during my lifetime, done that. I also wrote some. TPBM will define "speechless", and will explain how that can fit with talking for two full minutes, all that in the post below this post. If exact words is the game, I shall play. For now.
  16. Not really... I have weird random stories, though. TPBM will define "speechless", and will explain how that can fit with talking for two full minutes.
  17. Just randomly reviving the thread, because I wanted to say some things. I actually have nothing new to add, I'm just going to tell how what other people said here works for me. Basically: the world is full of ideas, you just need to stretch your hand and take them, sometimes other people have good ideas and it hurts me to see them done imperfectly, and dreams are great sources of inspiration. All mentioned above already. My ideas for a current story I'm planning to write came from the first type: random life things. For example, my father encountered a couple of foxes not far from my home, and in trying to imagine a fantastic way to explain that, I found myself starting a story. Frozen 2 also played part in this, but I'll refrain from elaborating too much. Another idea came to me after watching a specific scene on a comedic show. It's nothing you would know or understand unless you're a religious Jew (and probably Israeli, too), so I won't elaborate on that. I'm lately considering combining those two ideas. An older story of mine (which I never succeeded in actually writing, though it worked just fine in my head) was probably inspired by reading Bookweird and mourning the fact that to my knowledge, there's no book like the Undergrowth Chronicles out there. If you know what I'm talking about and know of a series with a similar idea please let me know. As for dreams, I remember finding myself laying half awake in bed, trying (and sometimes succeeding) to continue the plot line of the dream I just had. Actually, it all partly reminds me of the story "Dreaming is a Private Thing" by Isaac Asimov. In it, near the ending, the question of how do some people not get ideas is presented.
  18. Currently - in this specific moment - I feel completely fine (thank G-d), but I generally feel down lately. The main reason is my servitude in the IDF. I have a job I don't much enjoy here, and have to be on the road for 4-6 hours twice each week, to get from home to where I work and back. And I sometimes find it hard to enjoy the company here - though that's probably just something I need to work on myself. And every once in a while I try to think of my long term life plans, just to realize I don't have any. My life don't really that much suck - or, at least, it doesn't feel that they do at the moment - but there are many annoying things.
  19. Basically, yes. Just adding to that having an official group here to discuss it chapter by chapter. ... Yeah, it's probably meaningless. Sorry to waste your time. Edit: though, it still means building a group of people uninterested in reading the sample chapters. It's not completely meaningless. I think that normal discussion threads will almost automatically become a full-book spoiler area.
  20. So, I was digging in my old posts (hey, people get bored sometimes), and found this: It's from this thread, which is about reading RoW chapter by chapter (IIRC), instead of releasing it and letting people binge read it. Now, it appears that Brandon wrote those books for such a thing to happen - though not necessarily online. And maybe someone thought of it and already posted a topic somewhere else. I myself am not sure that this is the right place for it. If you know of such a thread - let me know. But if you don't, and you happen to not be in a book club that's interested in reading those novels, and you'd like to join one - well, you're invited. If this won't interest enough people I'll let the idea die. I already have a couple of failed attempts at recruiting people for things I want to do - it'll be nothing new if this one joins them. If I'd have started a kickstarter I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near Brandon's initial target, not to speak about where he's at currently. Please don't let the previous paragraph shame you into joining this or any other project I'm working on, and please be aware of the fact that both this paragraph and the one you're reading right now are mere psychological tricks to make you join. Thank you for reading that far, and for putting up with my cheap psychological tricks! (Assuming you put up with them...) Good [insert here the portion of the day you're currently at]!
  21. All right. I'm here to practice the ancient and forbidden art of thread necromancy: Rise, Sharder Memes! (And memes about Ene. Because that's a big part of what's in here.) I request a meme! In case no one will make one, I might have a try at it. I'm not a professional meme maker, though - I'm hardly even a professional thread necromancer.
  22. For me, in this case, it's nay. I've read the RoW sample chapters, and (to my shame) I multiple time committed the crime of reading about a book in Wikipedia. For once, I want to try to truly enter a book unspoiled.
  23. I'm the only one thinking a theme park is related to the Sharder Lair, aren't I.
  24. A couple of things. Yay, four new Sanderson Novels! He's crazy. And he has a surprising amount of insane fans. I'll bet that it ends somewhere near 50 mil. dollars... If I was ever willing to bet. Must admit, I didn't see it coming. Some people are going to hate him for that. Don't give him ideas... But I just think of all the things I'm used to people collecting money for, and... Well... Sorry if it offends someone, but I find it a bit sad that the regular stuff struggle to get 10,000 and Brandon gets to 15 mil. in a day.
  25. Well... Sadly, no. I've thought of an idea for how to keep contact between Earth and Mars when they're on the opposite sides of the sun, though it probably isn't that bright, and I didn't think of it in the shower. It was while daydreaming around, though, so it might qualify as only one level of genius bellow "I thought about it in the shower". TPBM is interested in astrophysics.
