I think we are starting to see traces of a more Renaissance type thing. For one thing, Dalinar is starting to see reading as possibly helpful to ruling, and a lot of ancient knowledge has been rediscovered. I also think renaissance themes fit better with the Atheli culture. If they solve the problem of restarting every desolation, they will progress.

This might have already been discussed, but if it was, i couldn't find it. Basically, I see shard having certain numbers related to them.Honor=10,Odium=9,Preservation=16. We see this in their magic systems. I also saw that Honor and Odium were close numerically, and seemed like a set of opposing shards in a way. I was wondering if anyone else had ideas on this or what other shards numbers could be. I personally think Ruin is 15. Thoughts?

So, odium has an opening when they take in his power/forms. I think this is him bestowing the power, either directly or through his spren. If this is the case, Honor could have done similar things. Or, if he could not, the opposite affect might have happened. Ruin and Preservation had opposing abilitys, this might be the same.Honor and Odium could be a set. If so, the perception of Honor could have changed him. Cultivation, i have no clue about.

If the arms race develops as stockpiling radiants, wouldn't the society be made of better people? Also, the rarity of certain spren would help balance the powers. Can't have odium-killing fabrial nukes be overly common. Although we see a device capable of doing something to a shard in secret history.

Assuming they can be subdued, any almost-death crimes could be solved by banishment,with harsher banishment being farther from Elantris. This would lower their power and capacity for trouble. Any prison not having 24/7 full body confinement would need to be outside the city a fair way.

I never said i found a way to imprison. Although some sort of full body bind thing might work, if they can be subdued or knocked out. Never claimed to have found a way to hold them.

I can see several ways to punish. But all i come up with would be very extreme and might not work. Aluminum padded room. Solitary confinement style. Something like a sensory deprivation chamber illusion prison or punishment. If real enough, placebo happens, perhaps even on spiritual level. if not good enough, they can still experience horrors.
