  1. Can I call you SoK? Or Sock? :P

    If not, that's good. I just think it's a funny nickname if you want a funny nickname.

  2. The Lost Metal is on Spotify

    How did I not even know that Spotify had audiobooks??

  3. I looked away for twenty seconds and everybody has The Lost Metal all of a sudden

  5. I got a bunch of my dad's old CDs today.  I'm so happy!  Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, and assorted others, including Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition and Night On Bald Mountain!

    Plus, the soundtracks to The Phantom Menace, Apollo 13, and Gettysburg, and the original cast recordings of Phantom of The Opera and Les Miserables.  Today is a good day, indeed!

  6. Shoutouts to humanity for successfully crashing a satellite into an asteroid!

    Y'know... just for the heck of it.

  7. my plans for tomorrow:

    1. Go to my programming class
    2. Do my calculus homework
    3. go outside, grab a wasp from midair, eat it.
    4. go get groceries

      If you do that and it goes bad, my condolences.

  8. The absolute whiplash I felt when I went to the next song on my required listening playlist for my music class, and it was Fur Elise, by Ludwig von Beethoven (190 songs I have to know the names and composers of, ah!) and it was primarily flute.

    It was actually a pretty neat version, I'm just used to Fur Elise being For Piano, it just is.

    While I have ya here, why do you think colonel is spelled like it is, but pronounced like it is?

      I think we do have some Debussy on the playlist, but I'm not sure.  We do have Classical and Romantic for sure, though!

  13. pro tip:

    don’t make your birthday your password

    make someone else’s birthday your password

    not a sibling or parent or something. someone who’s birthday you’d like to remember, but currently don’t know off the top of your head.

    it’s almost impossible for someone to guess

    and you’ll always remember that person’s birthday

  15. Guys, I’ve started watching anime.

    yes yes. I did

    And I probably started out with the worst one to start out with: Demon Slayer.

    After I  finish it, I’m only gonna watch ones that don’t have that much gore.
    So probably no TV-MA ones. But if you guys have any recommendations I would happily take them. I really only have Netflix to watch them on:(

    Anyways, SCHOOL IS STARTING SOON!!:( And I’m not excited.

  17. Ayo if anyone posted a status update that would actually be relevant to me please let me know cuz there is no way I am looking at all the status updates from the past while.

    (And for anyone in the same position as me, sorry for adding to the notifs)

  18. Ah yes.  The feeling when you realize that school is greatly exacerbating your possibly preexisting mental health issues, but you don't realize that and therefore don't tell your parents until the school year is almost over.

    On a side note, I think that it's hilarious that I went from 'oh, this is teenage angst and something I can deal with' at the beginning of May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month, to 'oh heck, that's not supposed to be normal and I might not be able to deal with that on my own' by the end of the month.

    The awareness was done with all the grace and precision of painting the underside of a 2x4.

  19. i only just found out that june is men’s mental health awareness month. on the last day of june.

    i think there’s something deeply ironic, profound, and ultimately sad about that.

  20. BACK IN BUSINESS! HEK YEAH!!

  21. Someone tell me what I need to hear

    To be clear: I don’t know what I need to hear, I think I’m doing great, it’s not about anything like that :P Think of it as a sort of thought experiment on my part.

    Asking for ambiguous, but honest, advice of whatever comes to your mind.

  22. Why do I do this to myself?

    • I have to work on my dissertation;
    • I have to get the Genesis 1 post completed for the General Religious discussions thread, including the chart;
    • I have to message several people, as well as finish a debate with someone online;
    • I have to work on one of my Stormlight theories to post here - though I might do a Cosmere or Mistborn theory instead - that list isn't going to shrink itself, and it also has the unfortunate tendency to grow;
    • I have to update my journal (not a Planescape reference) for what happened over the last week;
    • I have to fill out the June Edit log for my writing, and update the internal links and list of the contents in the weekly logs for the end of May;
    • I have to complete the post about my meta-setting to post in the Creator's Corner;
    • I have to finish that bloody short story (and finish the outlines for at least two of the novels);
    • I have to make more silly videos for my niece and nephew (I take my uncle duties seriously)
      • on that note, I need to learn more magic tricks for them;
    • I have to clean my workspace and room;
    • I have to organise my files and clear up space;
    • I have to finish rereading 1 and 2 Samuel, along with the associated commentaries;
    • (I have certain elements of my personal life to get in order);
    • I have to go to bed before midnight and try to actually be asleep before 03:00 am;
    • ... I have to stop putting so many things on the plate, or at least prioritise them better;
    • I needed to get that off my chest.

    ... So, how is your week going? :P;):D

  23. While I did not forget it was my Shardiversary today, I wasn't going to post anything about it.  Well, no more!

    It's pretty wild that I've been on here for two years, and I'm a hundred posts shy of three thousand.  When I first joined, I saw people like Nath and Xino who had high post counts, and I thought 'ain't no way I'll ever get there'.  And I kinda haven't, but I've said nearly three thousand things on here.  That's a lot of things.

    Anyway, quick Kindness round up!  In the two years on here I've:

    • Learned I'm a sappy romantic
    • Participated in more release hype then I ever had before (Rhythm of War, oh yeah!)
    • Had more fun with my writing than I have in a long time
    • Wrote poems!  That might actually be good!
    • Had my nickname morph from Kindness to Sprennie (not complaining, I really like Sprennie!)

    I'm not going to tag anyone, since I don't have enough words to say everything.  But thanks to everyone who made the last two years so fun, and here's to two more!

      Maybe?  A couple other people have called me Sprennie too, but I think I see it more these days.

  24. Kenobi update:

    Still banger. Plot holes? Yes! Always! This is Star Wars. But they made up for it with... really surprisingly good tension.

    Spoilers for most recent episode:

    Spoiler

    This undersea base place has been featured before in one of those video games that I've never played. You play as a grown-up(ish) Jedi Youngling, and eventually come here because [reasons, I'm sure]. You happen to encounter none other than Darth Scudding Vader, whose levels consists entirely of fleeing for your sorry lives. In order to escape, you blow a hole in the walls far beneath the surface, and it takes all of Vader's concentration to hold it back with the force.

    Here's a video by Austin from Game Theory detailing the science of that. That's not my point today.

    My point is that late into the episode, a team of Stormtroopers is gunning down Obi-Wan Kenobi, giving us some epic blaster/lightsaber action. However, at one point, Obi-Wan deflects a shot into window pane. Cracks begin to spread and water starts to leak in. He has to use the force to hold it back, then releases it on the Stormtroopers and makes his daring escape.

    Here's the thing: It's plot-hole enough that these incredibly crucial windows would be weak to even a single blaster shot. That's really not my point here. My point is that Stormtrooper blasters actually happen to be just about the weakest scudding blasters in all of Star Wars.

    Their armor is designed to be blaster-resistant, but the only blasters they work against are their own. That means that Stormtrooper blasters are incredibly weak and pithy.

    And a single shot from one of them broke these incredibly crucial water windows.

    ...

    I just thought it was funny.

      I really liked this episode too!  Are there rocky bits in the writing?  Yeah.  But I don't care.  It's Star Wars and I miss being too young to understand what made a story 'not good'.

      E. 4 Spoilers:

      Spoiler

      The scene where the interrogation chamber goes dark and then Obi-Wan just whirls out of the dark with a blue glow before vanishing again?  That is one of my favorite tropes in film.  Because I am a drama queen.

      (Not trying to infringe on your brand, Queen.)

  25. Someone stop me. I did it again.

    Frozen Strains

    My eye is bewitched by the melody woven with the skill of the most powerful and ancient of deities. I gaze upon it and am carried to another place by a note that is mightier than even the sorcery of the sirens. It fills my bones with a gentle strength.

    Piercing gaze that conducts the whole of the world as true beauty puts even the most magnificent art to shame peers from on high. She whose flute shrouds the universe in a most subtle music that penetrates the soul defies the weak tongue of mortal bards. Beside a singing river, the silver throne purifies all realities.

    I behold all of nature join and dance in harmony when she loosens the fetters of the fleeting material plane. From the earth, flowers ascend to crown her with hidden rubies and sapphires now made pale and poor. Lush and deep hues are bleached as bones before her. Upon her brow, the promise woven of jewels calls for all of humanity.

    Drumming and pounding steps are a chorus that none can deny. As one all are singing and rejoicing. Tears of understanding dot the clouds and leach into the revelers. Eternity is captured in a tune and dance that are unified in its praise. Now a new epoch held to honor the former of the muses beckons me into its depth and all that I can do is enter its embrace.
