Healing and the brain vs healing and the soul
Ashbringer replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Depends on the magics, and when the soul left / if it’s gone to the Beyond or not. Szeth died at the end of WoR but was essentially healed and resuscitated by a Regrowth fabrial. But that only worked because it was done quickly. Too long and the magic won’t help. I don’t think we know of non-Breath Lifeless, but it’s an interesting concept. And probably possible somehow. -
Quick question - what happens flavor-wise when someone is exed? Or is that kinda up to us?

Epics can also mimic a lot of different things.

I think Elantrians worship themselves quite a bit... (Also completely misread worshippers as worldhoppers, sorry my bad )
-
We've met a few. One shows up in Oathbringer, and the Ire are also all Elantrians iirc and we've seen them in Secret History. ... plus, you know, Riina.

Lift does a lot of things in addition to metabolizing food to Lifelight. She can break into the Stormfather’s or Odium’s visions, presumably without the either of them knowing, and she’s seen though Hoid’s disguise at some point per a WoB. That and none of it seems related to what she asked for, which was to stay as she was while the world changed around her. But just looking at the ability to turn food (or bendalloy compounding) into Lifelight for Surges doesn’t seem too overpowered, though. Could probably do something similar with nicrosil compounding alone. And you still need the metal to burn. (I’d also note that the more esoteric curse and boons we’ve seen, being Lift and Taravangian (and to a lesser extent Dalinar), are from Cultivation directly and not the Nightwatcher, but when we’re playing with Dawnshards that seems even less relevent…) -
Byron was still trying his best not to look in the direction that had been indicated, looking solely at Perses, trying to monitor the edges of his bubble. That might not be the best idea, depending on what "observing" meant for whatever these creatures were. But he didn't have time to worry about that now. The room flashed, and Vivi and Willow bolted for cover - as Byron felt a ripple, then a white-taloned thing start to crawl through the darkness. Then another ripple, farther. Then another. Rusts. Then Persus pulled out a gun and shot the thing next to Malsam. Okay, they were seen, engaged, and now were splitting up. Not good. Not good. Byron didn't exactly have much hope these things would be friendly. "Okay, do we have a plan?" he shouted, Locking his bubble in place briefly before diving down the hall and re-flaring cadmium, making a still light but much larger bubble that should end right before where Vivi and Willow were, and keeping Persus, Malsam, Malsam, and Cobalt within. The monsters were outside - they wouldn't stay that way, but he'd be able to tell when they went through. Except the one Persus shot. He couldn't make one without it inside, not when they were that close and at that angle. ... wait, why did the monster look like Malsam? Byron Locked his bubble again and dashed next to Persus, daggers ready.

It was strange to see an Epic in weakness. They normally thought of themselves like Shardbearers, untouchable. Balance was somewhat different, but it was still strange for Cassie to see. "Pushing against something blocking your Investiture is dangerous. Some things give, but most things don't. And it'll drain you until one of you breaks. Especially when you're draining your own soul. Do not try it again." Hypocrite. Cassie shook off the thought, looking at Demaren. "I know this seems like something I would understand. And some of it I do. But I had to take many specific steps to even stay alive with the damage I did to myself. And that's when I still have a body. Wireframes appear to be quite different... and incompatible. We need to find someone who actually understands this. Understands Epic powers and how they change you, and how the Forgery can change that." She gathered the Realized dress of the floor. It did look nice, didn't it? But it being the last thing Balance ever made... that didn't seem right.

Yes, Radiant’s don’t need it, but neither do Shardbearers with deadeyes. And Hoid seemed to define a Nahel bond as one where the recipient gained sapience. If it no longer fits that definition, is it still a Nahel bond? … no? “All of the Fused have an active and an inactive way to use their Voidlight. For some of them, one is way more dramatic than the other.” Assumedly, the Husked Ones’ active ability is the recreation of a new body. We didn’t see him do anything passively - it might be as simple as the Cognitive Realm peering that Jasnah and Venli can do. But the Heavenly Ones and Deepest Ones absolutely use Surgebinding passively.

Harmony being able to partially read Kel's mind is a good point. He hasn't shown that for a while, but Kelsier was Preservation briefly. If anyone could hide, he probably would be it. There is a WoB about the Ghostbloods thinking Kel is still a Mistborn. It seemed to imply that he wasn't, but that wasn't the main point of the WoB. I don't think Kelsier would be able to use a Forgery, as gaining access to that power would be very difficult and his Mistborn-ness is... kinda important to his history. This ended up going the opposite direction I thought it would - I thought he'd have found a way to get Feruchemy as well as still being a Mistborn. (Although, my brain is wondering if his steelsight spike is granting Allomantic Steel (or Iron) or not... it's confusing.)

I suppose I'm wondering if that still is a Nahel bond. Hoid says Nahel bonds are when the Invested entity gains a boost to their sapience in exchange for allowing access to Investiture, and most deadeye Shardblades don't seem to be getting that. Granted, Adolin and Maya definitely seem to be. But others don't, and there's still some oddities with Shardblade bonds needing an extra gemstone. It probably still is a Nahel, and definitely doesn't seem like a Luhel, but there's weirdness there. I agree they do have a bond, it's just a question if it increases sapience for the blade. I thought Honorblades weren't sentient, and Frustration found a WoB that was otherwise. They consume it to heal, and to use their Surge normally, but each brand of Fused has a passive effect they can do (seemingly) indefinitely. Heavenly Ones forced to heal end up grounded, but if they don't need to heal or Lash other things they can fly forever. There's also a WoB about Fused not needing a bond, and just being able to use Voidlight from their nature as Cognitive Shadows, too... although again, I wonder if there's an argument for Cognitive Shadows to be bonded to the Shard that their Investiture is made of.

... huh. TIL. Wonder what Jezrien's thinks about everything...
-
Shardblades aren’t necessarily confined to the Nahel bond, either. We don’t know how deadeye Blades work, and Honorblades aren’t sentient at all. Unless the Heralds had a Nahel Bond with Honor directly. And Fused can do limited Surgebinding without consuming their Voidlight. But we do really only have one magic system as a sample size, true.

Sazed possessed Kelsier
Ashbringer replied to HavingTheHasHoidAPurpose?'s topic in Cosmere Discussion
Pretty sure no. I don’t even think it’s confirmed that mistwraiths are even around anymore. -
So spores can be killed by two different things. Silver, which has shown up on Threnody and has been hinted to have other abilities. And also salt. Do we know why salt kills aether spores? Is it just a biological thing, where salt kills the actual spore instead of severing some Connection? Or is there a reason in the magic system, and have we seen anything like it before? I don't really have any theories, although I don't think it's biological (as salt in the air killed spores around the Rock, which is strange... especially because salty air is usually salt from water, and water definitely does not kill spores ).

It's possible trellium was given to the Set directly by Trell/Autonomy to be used as an explosive, and they didn't research more into it. Unlikely, considering they're still experimenting with Hemalurgy and some form of gathering Allomancers, but possible. I think Intent is more likely though, yeah. Depends if the Set were getting atium out of it. Which I don't think they were, otherwise they would have used it and we'd know a good bit more about "pure" atium vs electrum-atium -
Has Sazed already become Discord in TLM?
Ashbringer replied to SingleSoul's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Spiritual Realm stuff tends not to matter for location. Technically bits of Preservation are everywhere, because it makes up anything that preserves (I think). I do wonder if Sazed is making atium somewhere else, though. That's how Leras beat the power imbalance, locking some of Ruin's power in the atium cycle. But for that we need to know where that atium power goes when it's burned (either by Elend and the Mistfallen or by Marsh), which... I don't think we do. Something I'd want to ask if I ever end up at a convention. -
I think we had a WoB about there being Shards (besides Harmony and pre-RoW) about Shards not held by original Vessels, but it doesn’t exclude Shattered Shards. But all the Vessels would know it’s a possibility. They did sort of kill Adonalsium, and Odium killed a few of them and then had to take specific steps to stop someone else from Ascending.
-
He was specifically offered one of the Shards. One of the newer ones, because we know it was one we hadn't seen as of... oh 2015 was 8 years ago. Oh. Well, from before the RoW shards. Maybe a few others.
