Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
Ashbringer replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hmm. Does anyone think this game will have (secret) neutrals? The original game had a few, and it would balance a 3-Elim team with a vote mover role.- 892 replies

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
Ashbringer replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Threnody. AraRaash had never been. Faleast hadn’t either, that he knew of… although he was beginning to wonder. The Connection… was stronger than most. There was an obvious reason for that, but Lamentation’s choice of them both… no, best not to think of that now. Either because of that or else, AraRaash was looking forward to Threnody. Particularly if the… rumors about the discovery were real. That would really be something. Not much Investiture here, AraRaash. Don’t get too excited, said Faleast. So, it was working. “Seeing shades in person is worth it. And this world does have a lot to offer… glowpaste is intriguing. Imagine linking that to the Progression… we could glow in the dark.” That has absolutely no functional purpose whatsoever. “Rule of Cool. It’s cool. Thus it is done. And it doesn’t involve testing the little Progression things against Shade attacks, because I don’t want to use the Lifeline again.” We didn’t need it against the Shardblade, so that’s a plus. What else is there? Nightblood would definitely need the Lifeline. Shades I think would act similarly to Shardblades. Savant chromium… Division… Soulcasting… anything from Sel? “Doubt it. Sel’s gimmicky, not real powerful.” That wasn’t really true, was it? Dahkor… that was something. AonDor and Forgery were versatile, but AraRaash really wanted Dahkor. He wouldn’t be able to really use it… he’d need new Connection to use any Selish abilities correctly. Duralumin could perhaps solve that. But it seemed like most of the powers given by the bones would need the actual rituals to gain them, which would need a coven of the Dahkor monks to give him the rarer skills, or take over the bones of one of the elder monks… Wait. What? “That didn’t seem right.” What doesn’t? AraRaash? “Nothing. I think nothing, at least,” AraRaash replied. But that wasn’t really true, was it? The Evil is here, AraRaash. And something more. Something that I don’t know if even Lamentation has seen before. Something… evil. Old. Something that doesn’t belong. “Well, we’re experts in those fields, aren’t we?” AraRaash said. "I think we'll do fine." Yes, Threnody would be fun. Evil, old, dangerous, and essentially nothing to gain and quite a bit to lose. But… he did have a backup plan. He patted his pocket – so nice to have a place with pockets – to make sure it was still there. It’d been hard to find a place in this Line that had them… Taldain, Nalthis, nothing. Had to go to the weird part of Scadrial. You would really think a world as advanced as Threnody would have invented matches by now.- 892 replies

Could a Break Tank game just be a normal-formatted game with the asterisk *this might be horribly unbalanced and the only way for the GM to tell is to playtest it and then end it if it’s too broken*? Or could that just be run as an asterisky normal game? That’s what my Tower game is shaping up to be...

Some things: Do the Elims/Lawmen have an Elim Doc, or some way of knowing each other / communicating? Based on how the Hemalurgists work, I guess that players are put in a limbo-doc before their alignment is revealed? How does that work? (Bringing players back from the dead is a very finnicky thing, and works better as a central mechanic instead of a side role - but it can work.) Does the Allomancy work, like, if someone uses Steel and someone uses Iron in the same cycle then both actions fail? Do they lose the charges? Are F-Steel, F-Brass, F-Gold, and Awakener/Breath the same thing? Survive the first kill targeted at you? Soulcaster is... very very powerful. Probably too powerful, as it would take 3 Elims to kill off one Village Soulcaster.

Uh... not another four, but yeah four total. I've got too many ideas. Edit: One would work well as a Break Tank Game, in an LG format

Quick Fix 52: Dancing in the Mists
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
GM Thoughts: The anon voting mechanic - honestly I wasn't entirely sure what you guys would do with it. (It's main purpose, in addition to making the game a bit more interesting than a standard vanilla one, was so that I would be able to GM a QF without needing to spend hours trying to catch a current VC xD.) So it turning out that almost every vote was just a 1-to-1 copy of what went on in the thread was... somewhat surprising, but made sense - especially because someone has enough time to keep track of them all. I think if I do a rerun of this game or a similar mechanic, I'll either make voting fully anonymous without names, or add some vote manipulation abilities that can give more misdirection. That gives the Elims an advantage, but there's ways around that (more PMs, fewer Elims, etc.) I liked having an unspoiled Dead Doc... mainly because the dead were just as lost as the living were, but it was nice to see more chatter in there. Overall, I think the game went well. The Village didn't find any Elims, but like LG74 that's more the skill of the Elims (especially Gears) redirecting the village away (and the luck of getting Archer, Mat, and Quinn out the same turn, which is one result of the anon voting that I'm quite happy with.) There could have been more activity, but on average everyone voted. By the time I read it it was ~5 minutes to the end of the game, so I figured that could probably wait Edit: I'm not a Kandra anymore don't take that as a request to stop upvoting me please- 333 replies

Quick Fix 52: Dancing in the Mists
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
QF52 Aftermath: Ending Feuds, Avenging Lies The moment did not last long. "I believe Illona is the culprit," said Zilla, quickly pointing a finger as the remaining guests skirted around the pools of blood on the floor. This was really not turning into a good ball, was it. Several people in the crowd nodded their heads. Roko. Xino. Kiel. Pizza. There was little discussion... Lord Ruler, there was barely an accusation. Just many pointing fingers. Too many, actually. If Hasting's numbers were right, there were too many infiltrators here for this to be all good-natured. Illona quickly figured out as much. "Please! I know you've all no reason to trust me, but this is too much!" But the rest of her pleading fell on deaf ears. Hasting knew where this was going. So he stood from his chair and gave a dismissive wave, and the five accusers began to drag Illona out the front door. Roko was the one to give the final push, barring the door. "Well," Kiel said. "That went easier than I-" His words cut off as Zilla's knife found his throat. Coins began flying out from Roko's pockets at the survivors, and Xino... Xino ran up to the third floor. Blast, he'd find the atium. But there was nothing that Hasting could do about that. He ran. The keep was lost. If Elariel could get this far with three, they'd have more waiting, and House Hasting had no intention of dying tonight. Unfortunately, intent alone can't accomplish much. Something hit him in the leg. One of Roko's coins. "You know... I know you didn't kill Shan," it said, stepping closer as it started swirling metal around i's fingers. "It couldn't have been you. But this... this was an opportunity. Another revenge." Hasting simply closed his eyes. Illwei was uninvited! They were a Hasting Host! Bridge-Four was killed! They were a Hasting Host! The Elariel Eliminators have won the game! Congratulations to @Gears, @Tani, and @xinoehp512! Final Vote Count: Illwei (5): Gears, Tani, xinoehp512, Bridge-Four, PizzaPower55 Jondesu (1): Illwei Gears (1): Jondesu This was a very interesting game! Thank you @Lotus and @Araris Valerian for helping me get this game up and running despite busy schedules all around! I'll post more GM thoughts shortly. Quick Fix 52: Dancing in the Mists
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Something similar to my "illustrious" example happened in Long Game 68, iirc. Someone asked a suspicion on a specific word that had shown up in their PM and turned into a fairly strong debate, but I don't think anything came from it. ... dead doc wants me to state that tb means "throwback"- 333 replies

Quick Fix 52: Dancing in the Mists
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Uh... I can confirm that players who did not submit PM requests would not receive a random PM, however if someone else decides to make a PM with that player they would still be included in that PM. I probably could have been clearer on that. I.e. if Striker didn't submit any PM requests and no one else PM'd him, he'd get no PMs, but if Striker didn't submit any requests and Devotary requested a PM with Striker, then there would be a Devotary-Striker PM. However, generally speaking we're not allowed to copy-paste details from out-of-thread communications - whether GM / voting PMs, player-player PMs, or Google Docs - into the thread. A large part of SE is lying to people, and copy-pasting quotes from other people makes that much more personal (especially if you're lying about them saying the alleged quote). Plus sometimes it can be a relatively unfun way of proving alignment if from the GM PM; ie if I hypothetically told every Villager they were "a member of the illustrious House Hasting" then the Elims wouldn't know that the word "illustrious" appeared in every Villager's GM PM. So if someone asked someone to prove they knew what the adjective used to describe House Hasting was... that could be a way to catch an Elim, but it's not really fun for anyone. Not really an issue here because it's just a game mechanics response (that I would probably have answered in-thread had you asked there). You can certainly paraphrase the occurrences within any of these, but in the future try not to use exact copy-paste quotes- 333 replies

Quick Fix 52: Dancing in the Mists
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
QF52 Cycle 4: Loud Whispers, Silent Scream Hasting sighed. Word was spreading quickly through the court. The skaa food-testers had all safetly tested the meal, and the one that Varian had evidently seasoned was clean, but Dannex's wine glass had definitely been poisioned. To make matters worse, it had been checked before serving. That meant the poisoner was not among Hasting's staff or cooks, who could otherwise be safetly executed; but among his guests. People began shouting. That Dannex was a well-respected Hasting and his death made no sense, that they were certainly innocent as they'd drunk wine as well - that Hasting could hear was true - or that they had some suspicions of their own. Eventually one voice enunciated more than the rest. "Sisar's been passing notes around to people. Doing hand signals and the like," said Philico in his clicking tone. "He could easily be the ringleader of all of this." A few people started nodding along - they'd gotten notes from him before. But Sisar stood up almost immediately. "So? That's half the purpose of these balls. To gather information. We just don't talk about it. And from what I've seen you're just as eager to hear what I have to say, outsider." Hasting looked on as the room seemed to divide itself in two. Half the people seemed to be yelling for Sisar to be ejected for espionage, the other half wanted Philico, a relatively new face in the noble ranks, thrown out of the building for... probably for accusing someone of what half of the room was doing a better job hiding. At first Sisar seemed to be losing ground, but his network seemed to have his back as suddenly Philico's group lost volume. Suddenly the guardsman on the wall slammed his spear down and saluted. Someone was flaring steel, someone else pewter. Not good. "SILENCE!" Hasting shouted. To say the room immediately obeyed his command would be an understatement, but eventually everyone turned to look at him. The guardsman slammed his spear again, but no salute. Steel was gone, but a Thug was still antsy. It would have to do. "Both of you are accused by near equal numbers, there's nothing to distinguish the accusations, and you obviously can't manage to coexist for a nice meal. Both of you leave. Now." The pair glared at each other, before turning toward the door. The crowd parted... Revealing Tesse Mourn lying on the ground, a pair of bloody coins dropped next to her. Hasting cursed, calling for a medic - but Sisar had already bounded forward with the grace only pewter could give. Well... not only pewter. But it fit the facts. Sisar helped move her to a sitting position, and Philico produced a string of rags. They were the only ones to help before the Terris got there with a stretcher and carried Mourn out of the room. Would it be enough? Hasting doubted it. But... perhaps. Sisar and Philico glanced back at Hasting, who simply nodded. Then they turned and walked out of the keep. Archer was uninvited! They were a Hasting Host! Matrim's Dice was uninvited! They were a Hasting Host! Quintessential was killed! They were a Hasting Host! Quick Fix 52: Dancing in the Mists
Ashbringer replied to Ashbringer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
QF52 Cycle 3: First Come, Last Served "Welcome, everyone!" Lord Hasting rasped. Then he took a small bow. "I had plans for a grander speech, but it appears that I've developed a rather irritated throat. So, the main course is now available, and you will be served shortly." The hubbub of the room immediately quieted down - save for Table Four, which rose into excited chatter. Hasting shook his head. Those poor boys... they were hungry, but that would go remembered for a long time. He directed his attention to the Terrismen bringing out plates of roast pork and steamed potatoes, watching them listen carefully to the dietary requests of the - "DON'T EAT THAT!" a voice exclaimed, over the sickening crash of shattered porcelain. Hasting reflexively covered his ears, then looked. Table Six. Tesse Mourn was standing with a wicked glare at Varien Lithel, while what used to be the meal and plate of Kiel lay scattered on the floor. Blast, those had been antiques... but Mourn had enough poise to know that. This was important. "What did you put on that dish, Lithel!" she exclaimed. "I saw you sprinkle something on! What is it!" Varien looked agast. "It was just some salt, milady, mine tasted too sweet and I-" "Salt? Salt? What was it really, Varien? Pewter to get Kiel ejected by the Seekers? Poison to just kill them here and now? Tell the truth!" Hasting waved his cane. A guardsman stood straight, then slowly shook his head. So, no change in the room. Tesse Mourn wasn't burning brass, and no Thugs or Coinshots were getting ready to cause a scene. Interesting. And yet, Lithel looked terrified all the same. "Lord Hasting, I must request that this individual be removed from my presence at once," Mourn stated finally. Kiel nodded, as did others. Hasting gave the order, and a shocked Varien Lithel was dragged from the keep, stammering still about salt. "Have one of our skaa test that plate," Hasting said. "As for the rest of you, I assure you that-" His words died in his ragged throat as a shriek echoed across the hall. Dannex had fallen out of his chair, arms limp, wine glass spilled over his coat. Blood was leaking out of his mouth as he stared at the ceiling. It appeared that they hadn't found the right poisoner after all. Bother. Kings_way was uninvited! They were a member of the Hasting Hosts! Dannex was killed! They were a member of the Hasting Hosts! Time! Rollover should actually be short this time! It's a wonder what actually doing things in advance can do for someone.- 333 replies

Just an FYI that, depending on how things go, rollover may be either very quick or very long. I've got a family thing at 12:30 I was... previously unaware of and I'm not sure if/when/how long I'm going to be able to get away from that to start the next cycle. The thread and voting still closes at 1:00 PST regardless of my ability to get on to do so.- 333 replies

Essentially the title - is there a way, as the creator of a PM group, to change the title/name of that group? I feel like I've seen it done before but I can't find a way to actually do it. (Mainly asking because a PM of mine is based on a now-outdated username of one of its members - so it's not a major issue if it's not possible to do, but it would be a useful tool to have.)
