Why must every planet be a representative government
Nitpicking replied to bmcclure7's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I mean, I'm literally an ex-teacher, you have to expect pedantry. (Somehow, Eric [Chaos] manages to avoid it despite being a teacher.) -
Why must every planet be a representative government
Nitpicking replied to bmcclure7's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's a small point, but I did take the username "Nitpicking", so ... Rule by the rich is plutocracy. Oligarchy is rule by a group of people, generally not as representatives of the people in general. Oligarchy is usually contrasted with dictatorship. -
I'm hoping it becomes a sort of non-evil doppelganger to the Blackthorn spren, attaining consciousness but not actually being influenced by its creator, Odium. (If I have the sequence right, he's created before Taravangian picks up a second Shard.) The people desperately want a good king (despite now having a representative government forced on them) and he's molded by their Cognitive influence to become that king.

27th Shard? Wow, who has been splintering Shards to make smaller Shards?

Full feruchemist still exist WAT/Era 2
Nitpicking replied to Cheapshot's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Don't you need to compound atium to reverse aging? A feruchemist could store age (or youth, to put it the other way) but not reverse it. Yes? -
Can radiants advance their oaths between WaT and book 6
Nitpicking replied to nova's topic in Cosmere Discussion
But can the Nightwatcher or the Sibling accept oaths, the way the Stormfather did? Can Navani (once she wakes up) the way Dalinar did? The Wind (once she stops hiding) the way she did for Kaladin? Will the Night return, now that the planet is under an eternal darkness? -
Can radiants advance their oaths between WaT and book 6
Nitpicking replied to nova's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Why? Cosmere magics work on planets quite far from their Shards. Again, the Sibling (whose Towerlight is half Lifelight) is still apparently strong enough to resist Retribution. And the Nightwatcher is still there, as far as we know. -
So, about 30 years from now, long after I'm dead, the Stormlight Archive ends. Team Not Taravangian wins! Using the combined power of two Dawnshards or whatever, they reforge Retribution into Reconciliation (or something), and Roshar is no longer a threat to the Cosmere. With the end of the Everstorm, the time dilation clears, and the Roshar system returns to normal speed. And they see a Scadrian invasion fleet approaching in normal space, and also a fleet from the Sel/Nalthis alliance coming through Shadesmar. Kelsier doesn't know Roshar is fixed, and Discord doesn't care. So the war happens anyway.

Can radiants advance their oaths between WaT and book 6
Nitpicking replied to nova's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Dalinar shoved the Stormfather out of the way to accept Kaladin's Fourth Ideal. The Nightwatcher still exists, as does the Sibling. Some Radiants (e. g. Venli) seem to get accepted by Cultivation herself, though. -
Did we ever figure out (or get something from Brandon) on what Rayse was talking about when he shouted "We killed you!" at Unity? I don't remember seeing an answer. Can't be Honor, Rayse presumably knew Honor wasn't dead. Who is "We"? Does he think Dalinar is Adonalsium? That would be a very weird mistake to make. (Thought of while watching the most recent Shardcast. I paused it to post this.)

Dalinar is dead, but Brandon is cheating with the Blackthorn spren, maybe, so Dalinar can be killed and yet still be a character. I hope not, but he shows a strong tendency to cling to favorite characters.

I continue to think that "Nohadon" in the visions is SPOILER FOR DRAGONSTEEL PRIME
-
Here's a thought. The oaths of the Knights Radiant were made (with one known exception) to the megaspren--The Nightwatcher, The Stormfather, and The Sibling. Two of those still exist, and Syl replaces the Stormfather. Their oaths would still be in force. Could Ba-Ado-Mishram accept an oath, creating a new order of non-aligned-with-any-Shard Radiants?

Thematically, Hoid has to have a "become a better person" arc. He's a protagonist. Name me a protagonist who hadn't had an arc like that, throughout the Cosmere? I think @RedBlue is thinking in the right direction.

I want to see the immediate aftermath
Nitpicking replied to christianrapper's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He can't, in my arrogant opinion, "finish" the Cosmere in one human lifetime, especially since he's still adding more stories to the plan. Yet another iteration of White Sand, Brandon? He might ketek it out, actually, and have to bring in a younger writer a la Robert Jordan to finish things for him. -
Actually, she was a dragon. All dragons can take human form, but she was a dragon.

Disappointed in wat a take back of oathbringer
Nitpicking replied to bmcclure7's topic in Stormlight Archive
Why are we hiding so much stuff in a spoiler thread. I'll follow suit here, but why? -
How can Taravangian alter memories?
Nitpicking replied to Ookla the Invariably Tired's topic in Stormlight Archive
Brandon has made several major continuity errors, but he edits them out of your memory. -
Wind and Truth: Wells (Dawnshard Spoilers, can I do that?)
Nitpicking replied to M0rdak's topic in Stormlight Archive
Above, people talk about Honor's Perpendicularity moving around. Remember, Dalinar used to explicitly open "Honor's Perpendicularity". And he moves around ... -
I'll be honest here: I do not have the patience to scrub through 8 hours of Shardcast trying to find the details.
-
Mentioned on ShardCast.
-
@LazarusLong, like the Shardcasters say in WaT Reactions 2, that seems to be narrative necessity. Jasnah has to start from somewhere below "already the best and most respected scholar and Radiant in the world", so she can have a story arc in "her" book.

@Child of Hodor, also they cut the Tor editorial staff out of working on this book. Tor has some amazing editors, who didn't get a chance to help this round. In my opinion as a reader of many books, that shows.
