The figure who attacked Cadenza is caught off guard and slips on the ice, but catches himself. He pulls out a knife and uses that to propel himself back onto solid ground, then throws it at Cadenza. One of the other figures sets a small object on the wall. Jay jumps down and tries to engage the third figure, who pulls out a hooked sword.

The Yevon girl in the cage sees Janice. "You look like one of us. What's your name?"

Jay runs around the corner. "Cadenza, who are these guys?" The front figure blocks each of the ice blasts and then moves with blinding speed to intercept her.

"Hey! I'm right here. You don't need to say things like that"

Smoke, rubble, terrified people, and three figures walking towards the inner wall that leads directly to the arena. Jay hits the arena floor and rolls to a stop. The force from the impact charges his aspect, making it look like his hands are glowing slightly. "We've been set up! Run!" he yells at the Paladins on the floor, then runs after Lloyd and the others

"Hey, I figured out why I can't get out of the tree! I can feel you climbing. I am the tree! Or maybe became the tree at some point, I'm not sure"

Jay jumps out of the announcers booth in a shower of glass and falls towards the arena floor. If Lloyd runs to the back of the arena, he'll see a plume of smoke and a hole through the outer wall (where you first get into the arena) and three figures walking in through the smoke and terrified people. They all have glowing eyes.

"Sure, come and see if you can find me. And the octopus is new"

She looks directly into his eyes. And smiles. "Don't worry about me." she says, and an explosion rocks the stadium from outside. She reaches through the bars and grabs Lloyd by the shirt collar. "If anyone's in danger I think it's you" For Janice, her whispers start growing louder @Channelknight Fadran

"I'm really not sure. I haven't come down in a really long time." You can't actually see anyone, but they could be hidden in all the leaves.

"Oh, a story! I love stories. I've heard a lot here in the garden. But uh... don't stories usually have princes and knights and stuff?"

"Sigh... I'm going to go up and see if I can talk to someone. You guys get down to the field in case it doesn't work and we have to do this the hard way." Jay runs out the door. Within a few moments there's the sound of a scuffle over the announcers mike. What are you- Just give it to me- You're not supposed to *Crash* Hey guys, sorry for the interruption, but change of plans. We're doing something else for the second round. The crowd shouts in agreement thanks to Lloyd's prodding. The attendants who were bringing the cage onto the arena look around in fear. The girl looks up and calms down for a second.

There was a party here a few years ago. Right now it's just kind of sad.

The crowd outside can't seem to decide whether to be shocked or excited. But the more the announcer talks, the more they go to the latter. Jay looks at Janice and Lloyd. "What are we going to do? If they weren't already sure about it, why would they put her out there? I doubt we could persuade them otherwise."

"Seems plenty believable to me. But then again, I can't seem to get out of this tree. I've just been watching this whole thing and living off apples."

"Hang on a second." Jay looks out the window down to the Arena. "That's not a monster, that's..." he looks at Janice. "She just looks kind of like you." Wait, what? How did-- Elwood, talk to--------------------- Ok, folks, looks like we have a unique kind of Fey here today. It was, uh, apprehended in the deepest realms of Amaria, mounting an attack on a settlement with a horde of Yevon. It has some kind of rudimentary intelligence but isn't any more human than what we usually get, don't worry. The Sylven girl is in a cage, beating her wings against the bars, eyes glowing.

Jay puts his hand on her shoulder, trying hard to exude some kind of paternal protection vibe and probably not doing it very well. "I think we're going to have to go along with Lloyd's plan, figure out a place where someone can get captured where they'll be certain to be taken to the right place. Explosives shouldn't be too hard to get, considering we're literally in a military base disguised as a sports arena." And that's the end of the first round, folks. All the teams that won will be going to the second round. The first round is a test of skill versus skill, each Duster fighting another. The second round is a test of what defines a warrior, a team duel against a powerful Yevon. All holds are off for this round, competitors have gotten injured, but we haven't had anyone die yet. Last year we had an illusionist monster that showed our contestants their worst fears. The year before that was a Fey drake that almost flew out of the arena! Let's see what monster it will be this year!

"I don't like the plan either. But with our numbers I don't see another plan working. We can't storm the base, we'd get slaughtered, and we could probably sneak in, but I don't know how we'd sneak his family back out."

"Kind of the whole point of this is so they don't get a hold of you." "I have a strange feeling that you have like no experience with pain. But you probably wouldn't. When I or we do get captured, how will we find your family?"

"The better question is who's willing to get tortured?" mutters Jay darkly

"We also need to worry about whoever the impostor is that's taken over everything. Evidently some of this is Sel's doing, but not all of it."
