Why in the name of Patji would you - " He cut off when he noticed Noche shrinking back as if scared. "Hey, hey," he reassured, coming nearer. "I promise, I'll never hurt you. Actually, maybe it's best if you do stay with this group. Father won't notice and won't care if he does." Noche looked up at him, tears glistening in her eyes. "You think so?" she whispered. "Yes. It'll be good for you," Luz said encouragingly. She smiled tearfully and leaned back against the wall, looking back toward the other people. Luz settled next to her, careful not to touch her. "It'll be all right. You'll see."
