  1. "I do," he noted. "Nice to meet you, Finn."
  2. Lane smiled the innocent smile of a little kid as he poured himself a glass. “It is! Though this one’s an explosive. Don’t worry, it’ll only go off if I want it to.”
  3. "So long as we get a debriefing, good sir, the Knights of We're-Working-On-It are ready for duty. We can split our members up as needed, too, I can help judge that based on their skillsets." Stephen looked at his watch. "The rest of us should be showing up any moment..." As he said that, five more people appeared with a flash of green light, one of them a kid. The cat sat himself down next to them, and the total of nine humans and one cat stood grouped together. The small boy looked over to the girl with the tuna casserole with hunger in his eyes, but didn't say anything. Lane, however, ran over there excitedly, clutching his Rubik's cube. "Orange juice!"
  4. "...oh. Here, let me heal that poison out of your system. It takes a couple minutes to set in but kills pretty quickly." Cruz reached his hand forward tentatively, seeing if he would take it.
  5. Professor X snorted. "At least they're of something. We're the Knights of absolutely nothing, at the moment. It's been years."
  6. Cruz shut his eyes immediately and raised a hand to shield himself from the light. He fired off several blasts in his direction, blindly. "No hard feelings?" he called. "I'd hate to waste good fighting potential."
  7. When you try and store the scorching heat in your bracelet so you can get through the winter to come... and when it doesn't work you just close your eyes and pretend it does.
  8. "Done playing yet?" Cruz asked, spitting out blood, pain wracking his body. "The poison'll kick in soon." As he spake, he used his Aspect to heal himself, but he hid it from this enemy.
  9. Just as the man lifted off, Cruz changed trajectory and sprung off the ground straight upwards, his knife plunging into the man's upper chest. Cruz grabbed him by the back of the head as they hung in the air to hold on, and he was at a disadvantage, since he couldn't fly. But it was worth it to score the hit.
  10. "How many have died over the years?" Lane asked carelessly, oblivious to the sensitive nature of the question.
  11. Cruz sprung backward, his head flying back away from the knife and avoiding the punch. He rolled back a few feet away, then with a similar inhuman speed lunged directly towards the man, aiming for the very bottom of his torso.
  12. Cruz rolled out of the way and, having freed his other hand, pulled out his handgun and pointed it at the man. "We both better run for our lives, the adults are fighting just out there," he said, nodding towards where they had come from. "Scary stuff."
  13. "Still," Lane said, "Among thirty thousand, there surely ought to be some variation of personality." "Aye, that guy's gathering everyone for a meeting," said Professor X, "Says we're gonna figure out what we gotta do. Game plan."
  14. Cruz's assassin instincts kicked in, and he flipped out his knife and used it to push aside the strange rod, then stabbed at the man's shoulder.
  15. "Wow," said Lane nonchalantly, "They act as if you have complete control over them. Impressive."
  16. Yep, he was recognized. No doubt about it. Before he could finish his sentence, Cruz dashed forward and leaped into the air, twisting his legs around the guy's neck, the force of the impact sending them both tumbling to the ground in the alleyway. He clamped a hand over his mouth. "Shut it," he growled.
