From what I recall, the Edgedancer camp is on the edge of the mistwarrens, kind of on the border between it and the Sphere. I would certainly be open to that idea, and that could be something Perses does before potentially getting involved in what’s going on in Smokestack with Asylum. (there isn’t a proper map to Alleycity, and it’s safe to just RP as if any district you want is near any of the other districts)

Btw, my goal is to end this era soonish. Maybe in two episodes, maybe in three. This plot line is fun, but there are schemes a brewing for the next era, and having a shift in plot can be nice, as well as be a great point for people to hop in, potentially with a new character. Because of that, I invite everyone to think about where you want to take your character. An arc certainly does not have to end by the end of an era, and can definitely span multiple eras or pick up where it left off on the next era. However, having some idea on where you want your character to be by the end of this era is certainly a good thing to start thinking about and working towards. A bit of insight into my plan with Perses: at the moment, Perses has set himself up to be a rising mob boss in the Mistwarrens. However, I do want to establish him as a larger threat to neighboring districts. My current vision is to have something that makes him cause a scene in Smokestack, leading him to claim the Mistwarrens as his own and to have Smokestack not interfere. If any of you feel that your character could set up something to make that happen, or would benefit from this plan, please let me know!

Perses. Wake up, Perses. Wake up. Perses jolted awake, drenched in sweat. He reflexively reached out for his hearingmind. It was empty. He checked his other metalminds. Nothing. Frantically, he checked the hidden bronzemind implanted in his left thigh. He hadn’t stored in it in a while, but he hoped there was still some charge. As he tapped it, he felt his senses returning to him. With enhanced touch, he felt the air touch his skin. The air felt wrong somehow. Like it was damp, but with no water touching his skin. Perses went to move, and quickly realized he couldn’t. He tensed his muscles, but he couldn’t move. What was going on? Calm yourself, Perses. He attempted to jerk his head in the direction of the voice, and again could not. The voice rang in his ears, echoing in his skull. Yet he couldn’t hear the voice bounce off any of the surfaces in the room. I am not going to hurt you, Perses. I’m just here to talk. I feel our previous encounters have been…unsavory. I have kept you here for weeks, with no success. I will admit, you are a stubborn one. Only weeks? It has felt like at least a few months. I have since decided that it would be best to just talk to you, and make my intentions clear. I will give you freedom from this place one on condition. You seek freedom? Well so do I. I am…confined to this place, and I need you to help me escape. In exchange, I will grant you unimaginable power. Those that have put you here, or have ever wronged you will cower when they next hear your name. You can be a god. Speak, Perses. Perses felt his mouth become free of whatever was stopping keeping him in place. Perses gasped for air. After a few eerie moments, he answered. “Who are you?” Perses, somehow, felt amusement from the creature. I am Belias, Nightmare of the Alleys, and I will be your savior.

So mostly it boils down to preference. Generally having two characters can allow freedom to still RP when the person you are RPing with with one character is being slow, but it has the potential downside of being overwhelming when you are in two active interactions, and you need to put in twice as much energy. So if you have the time and feel like you would be able to deal with that potential high reliance on you for a plot, go for it! There are benefits, but noteworthy drawbacks.

I am very much still interested in that plot nuance, but the great thing is that it can be woven into the plot without need for a specific interaction. It can be an element of the plot later on, but not force you into an RP interaction. I’ll pm you the details of what I have in mind.

I believe, if you are referring to the Sunlit Man, that that is a Dawnshard effect, and not a particularly common occurrence. Again, not saying you can’t do that, but that you would need to provide further context and backstory to how that came about. However, if you want something similar to that, but not attatched to that extra bit of complexity, I can help you find something that you’d like!

So let’s try to get our bearings at this point in the story. For newcomers, I’d recommend checking out the plot summary for newcomers if you haven’t already. Perses (my character and the big bad) has recently emerged from New Hallandren with a cool new awakened coat, and would be ready to get involved in some way. Asylum Smedry ( @Stormlightsong’s character who is in kahoots with Perses) is currently hopefully wrapping up a competition with Frisian ( @TheFrugalWizard’s character, who is currently tasked with being a grunt for the Smokestack constabulary) over whether Asylum will be arrested in the Koloss Headmunching Festival in Smokestack. Eza ( @Lunamor’s character, who is in a complex relationship with Asylum) and Arranis ( @Scars of Hathsin’s character, who is trying to put law enforcement into his own hands) are watching this ordeal impatiently. Eleos ( @RoyalBeeMage’s character, a leading force in trying to bring peace with the Mistwarrens through the influence of New Urithiru) is currently engaging with Chloris (my character, a troubled ex-Edgedancer who is without purpose), trying to calm her down and potentially give her direction. Corbeau ( @Ravenclawjedi42’s character, a clever obligator that seeks Perses’ ruin) has been out of the picture for some time, but has tasked Sonyr ( @TheRavenHasLanded’s character, an easily manipulated librarian) and Keshi ( @Stormlightsong’s character, a Kitsen exile) with gathering information about Perses. Both have found success in their own way, but have finished up their current encounter. @Longshot97, @GunslingerRadiant, and anybody else currently unattached, I encourage you communicate in the collaboration thread on what you want to do to help with the plot. And anyone who is currently in an encounter, if you would like to end the encounter or skip ahead to the results of the encounter, feel free to communicate that with those you are RPing with!

What do you mean by a torment?

Now, from what I understand power-wise of the fourth ideal, that would give Skix the surge of gravitation and division, as well as a Shardblade and shardplate. That is quite a high powered character. This is not me saying that your side character can’t be fourth ideal, but that it is generally not advised without serious handicaps. Our main goal for power level is to allow people to choose any range of powers, but also to allow weaker characters to co-exist and not feel irrelevant to the plot. If you have a character that can fly, decay things with a touch, cut through and kill anything with ease, regenerate from most mortal wounds, and have armor that is highly invested and hard to get through, it can be tough for a simple coinshot that is just getting a hang of their powers to feel like they can do much. If you want two generally quite strong characters, consider either tuning one back or having them both have realistically exploitable weaknesses or have other handicaps to their powers.

So only a few questions left: why did his parents hate him for being an Elantrian? I recall that was a normal response post Raod, but I don’t recall that being the norm before then (though I might be misremembering). Also, Elantrians *can* use their power outside of elantris, even without a device. It just requires the use of a physical map of the place that they are in. Now, given the instability of Alleycity due to the sheer chaos of people there, having something that can easily accomodate for large changes could be useful. Inevitably though, it is your call. Last thing: is Skix currently a Skybreaker? Or has he broken his bond? If he is still a skybreaker, knowing the ideal would be useful. However, once that information has been given, I think your character is approved! And yes, @Longshot97 your updated character is fine by me.

So why is he hated by his family and the Ghostbloods? Also-where did his fear of being hurt come from? I assume there’s a story here, and it would be useful to me if you expanded on it. Also, having a brief mini-sheet for skix, just for strength and roleplaying purposes, would be quite helpful. What is this awakened machine, and does he still have it? What took him to the Alleyverse? (there are pretty much limitless ways to get to the Alleyverse, so you just need to make something up) Overall Elantrians are complex power-wise, as they can do practically anything. Now, that can generally be okay, but it needs to be worked around. Either a flaw that hinders their ability or an understanding of the power of this character is generally needed. Everything isn’t about combat, but generally speaking we want to have a place where the common misting and the powerful Mistborn can coexist, and that requires adjustments. Your character is looking solid, but some expansion, especially of the backstory and his general character would be useful in properly evaluating the character.

Cool! If folks can state their current availability like these two very helpfully did, that can help me gauge whether a resuming of the plot is workable or if there will need to be a minor time skip just to reset things a bit.

Alright folks! This is my attempt to start things back up. How is everyone’s lives going? I know we were all busy because of one thing or another, but I know that at least for me, my availability has opened up. I think these tweaks are good to approve. I’d @AonEne’s input on it, as your character admittedly has a lot going on. Nothing that I think should necessarily be problematic, but just a lot of individual things to take in.

New Alleyverse idea just dropped.

Now we’re asking the real questions. In all reality I suspect different animals have slightly different bind points, but the smaller you get, the more possible it is to drive a spike through multiple bind points. hmmmmm.

Have you watched the video? It explains that this is something found in both pre-hormone and post-hormone transgender people. It is frankly quite fascinating, and very much gives credence to the idea that being trans is natural.

Well, here’s the thing. What Is biological sex? Because sure, it can be chromosomes. Though, chromosomes are more of guidelines on how to determine what we would categorize as “sex”. The hormones, the primary and secondary sex characteristics. And frankly, you don’t even know what chromosomes you are born with until you actually check. There have been plenty of people that have xy chromosomes, yet develop female primary and secondary sex characteristics, with one of these examples being Swyer syndrome. There was also a case of a father of three children that when taking a medical test was made aware that he had a vagina (it wasn’t visible on the outside, and clearly didn’t impact his fertility, so the only way to know was to check). And frankly, with both hormones and surgery, trans women (or men) are practically biologically men or women. Trans women get periods because of their hormones, and naturally grow breasts. So I would generally say that that is biologically “female” in my books. And beyond that, there have been studies that have shown that trans individuals have brains that are of their preferred gender. Here is a snippet from an old Harvard lecture on this. So long story short, trans women are women, both in gender, and in many cases, in sex.

So to preface, this is not a theory. This is a funky little connection that I made, and I wanted to share it with y’all. Panic! At the Disco made a song in 2016 called Victorious. If you haven’t heard it before, Here’s the song. In my punky opinion, it is a great song. However, there’s something interesting about it. Is the song about Szeth on the night he killed Gavilar? Obviously not, but there are certainly some fun connections. here’s the lyrics: Some stand-outs: “Double bubble disco queen, heading to the guillotine” “let me be your killer king”-Gavilar “I’m a killing spree in white, eyes like broken Christmas lights”-Szeth, with his weird eyes that sometimes glow “my touch is black and poisonous”-could easily map onto nightblood, but if we want to keep with the death of Gavilar, it could easily be Szeth’s shardblade. There’s also many references to this being a party, especially one with lots of drinking, which is very relevant for old Dalinar: “Drink the water, drink the wine” “Champagne pouring over us” And even the whole idea of being victorious, with lines like “all my friends were glorious” fits with the fact that this was a party to celebrate the end of a war. So, is this song about Szeth? No. But will I think about him whenever I listen to it? Storms yes.

So I recently changed my password, and have been having to change it ever since. Every time I enter the correct password, it claims that it is actually incorrect. I then have to recover my password and reset it, which then signs me in. Perhaps this is due to me switching between devices? Am I not allowed to be signed into both my phone and my laptop on the Shard? Because as I've been doing this process, I have been switching between devices, just to update the saved passwords.

Noooop! I started by, and still do at times, frequenting the Cosmere and Mistborn forums, dabbling in in the social forums, but over the past year have mostly sequestered in and fostered a micro community within the RP side of things. Carrying the torch from Voidus and Ane, who both have much more important jobs in the Shard. So whenever the status update culture started, I have never even heard of it. I’m the hermit of the Shard, in my little hidey hole, poking out every now and again. Given that the academic year is nearly over for me, perhaps I’ll try to be here more often…

I mean, keep in mind I’m a tad out of touch with the current going ons of the Shard, as I took a year long break about two years ago (I think), and have only been semi-active ever since, mostly just vibing in the Alleyverse RP forum. So a few years ago, rep was something that was given out decently infrequently. Nowadays, I honestly don’t really know :/. my bad on that, I’m just now coming to terms with the fact that I’m a bit more of a Shard veteran than I thought I was…
