but this is a lingusitic reveal. there are many glyphs that are not religious- from the signs on stores, maps or magazines for men to read, to the shash-nahn on kaladin's head. the fact that construction of the language shows shardic awerness is nice, but it can't be used as evidence the practice of burning glyphs has powers. If i research old celtic, for instance, and find the etymological development of their word for Light shows suprising connection to modren concepts in theoretical physics, it doesn't make stonehenge a particle accelarator.

I'm brainstorming an OC, and i realized I really don't consume the right kind of media to get her right. I'm looking for media following the story of a young lawyer, like, believes more in the ieals above the law- equality, justice, generally Protecting People- who gets exposed to a case related to discrimination or human rights violation that reveals an entire phenomena of injustice she didn't know about, takes the case on despite better judgment and does a lot of hand on Investigation work. Because it's a fantasy work, I'm a bit less concerned with researching the details of the whole Law part, and more on the spirit of the character, their journey and the plot steps they go through- so i guess if you have recommendations that have a journalist instead they'll work. I know Law Drama is a big genre and this is probably a vauge request, but I really barely ever watch anything that isn't fantasy or sci-fi, so i have no idea how to find my arms and legs in this, and need to be recommended The Best clearest/well done examples cuz i really don't know where to start. Also, any fantasy books that center on Legal Drama would also be help , evne if they dont fit the specific plot.

Khriss does write that they are a "recent invention". does that mean they will be a recent invention soon, and Khriss is not in the same point in time as i assumed (Roughly around us), or are there instances of them in the book i forgot? I don't know if it's coded to emulate the experience on purpose, as Brandon is usually aware and intentional in depicting neurodivergencies and mental conditions, but as a a long time cosmere fan with strong ADHD, the syl interlude gave me Fuzzy Feelings Of Being Seen. On one hand, depicting a character mostly known as carefree, childish, sometimes pestering and prone-to-losing-her-intelligence-and-maturity character as potentially ADHD worried me it might be somewhat stereotypical and based on a surface understanding of the disorder ("oh look a butterfly! Haha!") . The idea that because ADHDers struggle to focus and are easily excited they're Happy-Go-Lucky goofballs is one you get tired of seeing at a certain point, y'know. But I feel Sanderson handled Syl's issue with attention very well and with a lot of understanding! Syl's struggling with her buzzing brain full of thoughts in order to get what she wanted to do done, her "hanging on" to important tasks trying to keep them in her mind and fearing she'll slip- not only they were a much more nuanced take on the trouble inattention and hyperactivity can cause to an ADHD person and how does it feel to battle them, but they also connected to issues like excutive dysfunction and emotional regulation which are less talked about but very central parts of the disorder! Other readers, ADHD or not- did you interpert the chapter that way? And specifically Fellow ADHDers- what did you think about the chapter as far as Representation and what not goes?

We know sanderson does rouges with a heart of gold very well, I can't wait for a more strategy based take, and, as i said- knowing he knows about Vetinri makes me think if he does go with a conniving sort of shard he could make it very morally nuanced and interesting. As to jewish history and depiction in literature- I agree and assure you I Know My Material, and as I said, did not mean the moral leaning of what i described to be particularly related to the mere fact of it's sharpness

Me: *is confused jew* I apologize for any offense I might have caused. English is not my first language, and i understand cunning is a word that can be perceived in a few ways. I actually felt unsure whether it is the right word for the emotion I wanted to portray- but I was impatient to do a big check and look for words, and decided to instead go with what a quick check in the google dictionary said- "having or showing skill in achieving one's ends by deceit or evasion." What you pointed out helped to further open my eyes to the ill-suitedness of the name to the concept I had in my head, and using my favored translation software (which agrees with you- cunning is not necessarily about deceit or ill intent, but can also be equivalent to intelligence and quick-wittedness) I think maybe a better name would be Manipulation, Control, Conniving, or Wilyness. I agree all of us have to evaluate the ideas in our writing to see what harmful ideas we are unconsciously relying on, because we all inevitably are. P.S. It is posibble to write Cunning- wether the more already-positive side or it, but even the full Manipulative Controlling Puppetmaster part- as Good. I, like brandon sanderson, am a discworld fan, and I won't deny I was thinking a bit of my liking of Vetinari and the amazingness of seeing Hoid interact with a powerful Vetinari-like being when i wrote the post.
