    … shook his head, then dumped the vegetables into the pot. “Now, take this rag and clean the vegetable chunks off my walls. There was no need to be so violent.” The old man tossed the spear to Nogard. “It’s an incredibly powerful magical artifact, that’s why it’s important. I have no need of it anymore, not now that I have my rabbits back.” He turned and began walking back to where his bridge had been. “Anyways, we should get moving. That rabbit bridge isn’t going to fix itself, and what if other shepherds happen to be passing by? Would you force their rabbits to use the human bridge?”

    The distant rumbling grew louder and louder, until it drowned out even the screams of the dying goblins and the grinding of the walls along the ground. From their vantage near the top of the wall, Nogard and Shoe saw trees topple and clods of dirt rip up from the ground as an immeasurable horde of invisible rabbits stampeded recklessly toward the closing walls. An instant later, the rabbits were upon them, and it was all the pair could do to stop themselves from being ripped off the wall and tossed to the ground far below by the flow of fluffy beasts. In the center of the walls, the old man raised his spear high, glowing red energy gathering at the tip of the spear of Instakans as he held it high above his head. As the first of the rabbits crested the wall, that energy shot forth as crimson lightning, forming a web that ran between the four walls. The rabbits ran along this web, red crackles across their bodies making them vaguely visible as they braced the walls. Slowly, the walls ground to a halt. The old man lowered the spear and smiled. "Much better. Well, I do believe that our quest has been successful! Who's ready to fix my bridge?" "Doomed to Heroism syndrome. It's a rather common ailment among named characters here in TLT. Not to worry, I have a foolproof training regimen to overcome it." ... handed Selppaenip a knife, and pointed him towards some vegetables. "Chop those, then put them in that pot of boiling water."

    … sighed again. “Your case is worse than I feared. But not to worry, I had an even worse case of DtH than you back in the day. For your next task, come help me make dinner.” … turned and walked into his house, expecting Selppaenip to follow.

    ... sighed. "I see. Perhaps I have underestimated your abnormality. Here is your next quest: Walk ten blocks down this street, then return." The old man glared at the wall, but he knew he was doomed. Without my rabbits, there's little I can do. As the wall drew nearer, he bowed his head, resigning himself to his fate. I only wish I had an opportunity to spit in Woe's eye before I... Wait, is that- Moving swiftly, he scooped up the spear and channeled its power, sending forth a call throughout the thread. COME TO ME, MY RABBITS!

He paused, then, frowning, looked through it again. ”You have failed your task, young one.” Reaching into the bag, he (with some difficulty) pulled forth the spider eggs, which were covered in white silky webbing. “How can I use these to cook? For all I know, these eggs are extremely poisonous, or perhaps they lay a curse on anyone who eats them.” Glancing into the bag, he shivered. “Also, I do believe one or two of them may have hatched in here.” reaching into the bag again, … pulled forth the candlesticks. “These are entirely too gothic. Also, they glow with an almost demonic energy. Where on earth did you get them?” He shook his head, dropping the cursed candlesticks back into the bag. ”Of course, your most glaring failure is the missing pineapples. Why didn’t you get any? They are an essential ingredient in my renowned fruit salad.”

    “Very well. You first lesson is simple.” … handed Selppaenip a piece of paper and a mysterious bag. “This is my shopping list. Go get everything in it, and don’t cause a fuss.” The shopping list read: 5 dozen eggs 13 pounds of sugar 7 potatoes 2 extra-large notebooks 9 small pineapples 16 candlesticks a new shower head

    … sat still for a long time, unmoving. When he finally spoke, his voice was purely average. “Your training will be… difficult… you may not survive.”

    The old man growled in frustration. “Whatever he’s done to my rabbits, I’ll make sure he pays. Pays in blood.” Distracted by his loss, he did not see the spear in the Goblin leader’s hands, swinging an absentminded yet perfectly aimed blow with his staff directly for the large goblin’s head.

    The old man followed Nogard through the melted hole in the cage, then charged towards Woe, using his staff as a bludgeon as he fought through the goblins towards the Narrator. “WHERE ARE MY RABBITS?” He thundered, splitting a goblins skull with strength that belied his age. “RETURN THEM TO ME IF YOU WISH TO CONTINUE BREATHING!”

    The old man braced himself as the fire shot towards them, knowing deep in his bones that this was the end. It was here that Subversion decided to interfere a little. Just a tiny amount, of course. It wouldn’t do to get in a direct confrontation with Falvan at this time. She pulled a potion of fire resistance from her pocket then, as if by accident, she dropped it onto the party of adventurers in the cage.

    “The joy of seeing us dead? The ownership of my bunnies? Who can say what motivates an evil being like him?”

    “We’ve been set up! That scumbag Woe lured you all onto this quest. He probably had you walk across my rabbit’s bridge just because he wanted to break it. Now we’re all going to die!”

    The old man glanced at him. “What do you have against my rabbits?”

    “What have you done to my rabbits?!” The old man’s face filled with wrath. “Where are they?”

    The old man opened his eyes wide in horror. As he saw this “No! Blast it Shoe, put the muffins back! They’ll never listen to me while they’re busy eating!” indeed, even as he spoke the rest of the invisible bunnies stopped wreaking havoc on the horde of goblins and turned their attention towards decimating the mound of muffins.

    The old man was appreciative of this attack, using the opening to send his a tidal wave of bunnies towards the goblin holding the spear.

    The old man growled, regaining his resolve. “Well, let’s see what that spear can do. Have at thee!” He swung his staff in a circle, forming an invisible tornado of rabbits and sending it spinning through the horde of goblins towards the spear holder.

    The old man gasped softly. "How did you get that? It was sealed away, guarded fiercely!"

    I took that as Shallan lying to herself, getting past her block of needing a bead to manipulate things with by pretending she finds a bead of the right thing.

    “Very well.” The false wrath fell away from the old man’s face, replaced by an expression of regret. “I had hoped it would not come to this, but… well, we shall have to see how well you can face me this time The old man raised his staff, then swung it towards the ground. In front of him, the crowd of goblins split, shoved aside by his invisible helpers. ”Go! The time to flee is now. I will hold their attention.” He swung his staff to the side, a wave of invisible force following after it, swallowing buildings and goblins alike and leaving shattered remnants and nibbled foes in its wake. “Come! See the fruits of my labors these years past! I will not fail here as I did before!”

    The old man looked back at Shoe, then shook his head. "Hang one a second" he whispered, glancing back towards the goblins. "If they don't buy it, I'll make a distraction. But if you run now, they'll think I'm bluffing for sure."

    A flicker of surprise crossed the old man‘s face, but he covered it quickly. “Last time I was bluffing. This time I am not.” He raised an arm towards the large goblin. “Do you need me to further prove my power, or would you prefer I leave you with your life?” He didn’t have the rabbits last time he was here.

    “Beaten me?” The old man laughed cruelly. “You continue breathing only because you may be useful to our quest. Do not press your luck.” The ropes dropped away from him, and with a rustle of sound the old man lifted into the air, arms spread wide, eyes glowing with malice. “I have not come to steal anything from you. I have come to kill every last one of you and take what I want from your rotting corpses. Unless you’re willing to cooperate. Tell me where the spear is, give it to us or take us to it, and I will spare your pitiful lives. I give you this chance out of the goodness of my heart. Do not refuse it, or there will be… consequences.” To emphasize his point, the old man waved a hand absently, sending forth a wave of invisible force that flattened one of the village’s huts to the ground.

    “Don’t worry,” whispered the old man, “I got this.” Clearing his throat loudly, he spoke in a loud, commanding voice. “Oh foolish creatures, you have messed with the wrong group of adventurers. For I am a great wizard, the likes of which you have never seen! Release us, and I shall let you live. Continue holding us, and I will unleash my great powers and destroy you all.”
