You just killed him because you’ve decided to act callous for some reason.” “Alright. One, two, three!” Moni dashed towards the edge of the plateau and leaped off, holding tightly to her end of the horseshoe.

    Subversion stood up off her therapy chair and started stalking away. “Kindness doesn’t have intrinsic value in fiction. It only has value in how it improves the story. Thank you for listening to me Bacon, but I’ve got to go. I’ll figure this out one way… or another.” She melted into shadow and vanished. “We can show that I did not intend to steal that Plotblades for myself, that I had at least somewhat good reason to distrust the Brave Adventurer, and that I never held any intention of harming the order.” The Great Wizard hummed, deep in thought. “And don’t forget to ask for a delay of judgement so that I can-under supervision-recapture my withergeist-bonded rabbits.” “Great!” Moni held out the horseshoe. “Hold onto this, and we’ll jump on three. Got it?” Unintelligible cursed, teleporting after Hacob. “Why did you do that?”

    "Hm." Moni pulled the horseshoe out of her cloak and looked at it. A little bent, but the magic should still work, right? "How about we jump off?"

    "Lead the way then." Moni looked around as well. "Since I have no idea how to navigate in this place."

    "You're welcome." Moni stood up. "Now, what's next?" Subversion blinked. "...How am I supposed to respond to that?" "No. My problem is that there is no reason to care about people. Neither for me to care about them, nor for them to care about me. And yet Nogard does care for me, and I... I also care about him." "If you wish to argue for that, then do so."

    Subversion sat up. "I'd like some real solutions, not far-fetched suggestions like complaining with my Author. Right now all that comes to mind is ripping my emotions out, locking them away forever, and dealing with Nogard to make sure they don't come back." "Hm." Moni searched through her pack. "Here, try this." She tossed a tube of salve to him. "Shoe, how much more do you need from this guy? He's already told us he doesn't know where his children are."

    Moni sat down on a nearby rock wearily. "How are you? He got a pretty good hit in on me at the end there, but the horseshoe mitigated the damage. Looked like he hurt you pretty bad."

    "I don't drink caffeine, so no thanks." Nameless offered Trellin a plate of brownies. "Fresh out of the oven."

    Moni nodded to Perseus, then turned her attention to Atreides. "Alright, I will." She turned and ran, vanishing in moments as reality warped to bring her closer to her destination.

    Moni flew backwards, skidding along the ground. She got back to her feet a dozen meters away, holding her side where Atreides had hit her. "Just give us the keys! You've already lost your famous weapon, do you really want to continue this fight?"

    Moni got into position and struck, swinging Endings for Atreides's sword with lightning speed. Unintelligible cocked his pistol. I guess you'll get to see exactly how powerful I am during Ookla season.

    Subversion frowned. "It matters to me that even though I am starting to care for Nogard, I can't think of a reason to care for anybody." "I suppose that I could at least try to get a lighter sentence." Moni snuck up on Atreides invisibly, careful to move in total silence as she positioned herself to strike. Unintelligible has Ookla powers. I can sense your Narrationblade. Don't kill him until we get the information we need. Unintelligible was careful to transmit his thoughts only to Hacob.

    "Good, keep him busy." Moni reached into her pack and pulled out an invisibility cloak, vanishing from Perseus's sight.

    "Think you can distract him maybe? I need to get Endings into contact with his sword." Moni muttered. She sliced the lightning bolts from the air, then Ended the blast of energy just before it could hit them.

    Moni stood up off of the very solid and not at all spongy ground completely unharmed. "No! You'll kill him, and we don't need to kill him." Unintelligible pulled his other revolver out and pointed it at Hacob. Not yet. We need information from him first.

    Narrators could certainly come here, but I don’t know if they’re native or not. ”You’re at my house!” Nameless replied. “Might I ask your name?”

    Moni deflected the lightning with Endings, reaching into her pack desperately. I need a parachute! She thought frantically. Instead, her hand came out with a… horseshoe? She stared at it in confusion for a brief moment, then hit the ground at terminal velocity. Unintelligible ducked into the room behind Shoe, revolver in hand.

    Moni spun in the air, helplessly tossed about by the gusting winds. Fight him? How about I try and avoid falling to my death first? She closed her eyes, pushing aside thoughts of smashing into the ground far below, focusing her mind on the dagger clutched tightly in her fist. “End.”Moni’s eyes snapped open as power pulsed out from the Blade. The wind around her died, clouds and spirits sent scattering away. The wave of energy stopped just short of Atreides, leaving a circle of calm a hundred yards in diameter. For a moment Moni hung there in the clear sky, staring straight at the so-called King of the Winds without a scrap of fear in her eyes. Then of course, she fell from the sky.

    “That might be part of it,” Subversion replied slowly. “but even if I was just a character, I still wouldn’t be real. I suppose I could give up my powers and erase my knowledge of the nature of existence, but that option is… not very appealing. I don’t want to live a lie.” “Selppaenip, that request must be made at the trial.” The Great Wizard looked slightly less tired as he hung from his chains. “Thank you for your kind words.”
