  1. "Must be nice, having those godlike powers and only wanting to do little things with them."
  2. Ah, a man of history. I knew I liked you. And you're researching the secrets of the fundamental essences as well. I can be of help to you. "Create stories, meddle in the background, destroy the entire Thread and remake it every few hundred pages. That sort of thing."
  3. "Interesting. That's not at all what the Narrators I've heard about do." Val shrugged. "I guess you shouldn't trust the stories."
  4. "I see. What do you use your powers for then?" Inquired Val.
  5. "Yeah, I guess so." Val shrugged. "I take it you don't really want to make characters?"
  6. This core was absorbed into the figure's chest in another flash of light. This time, the figure was complete, although his body was slightly transparent in parts. You are much more careful than she was. the voice was calmer now, but still. Giving me only these small portions of your power. In the spirit of fairness, I should give you a warning: give me too much more power and I'll be able to incorporate all of it forcibly. Val blinked. "Oh, you're a new Narrator? That... would explain a lot." He facepalmed. "So when I was asking if you'd made any characters earlier, you had no idea what I was talking about?"
  7. "Well, not really. It's kind of weird. I have two sets of memories. One of them is normal, being born, going to school, getting a job, burning alive in an orphanage. The other one is... weird. It's all fuzzy, and even what I can remember sort-of clearly feels like a dream. But in those memories, the earliest ones that are clear at least, I met a guy who called himself Nameless. He said he was a Narrator, and I think he might've made me. That me at least, not sure about the other one."
  8. "I met Cricket and Rose while they were fighting a monster." Val said cheerfully. "I decided to stick around because you guys seem like good adventurers. Also because I haven't ever met a Narrator before." Rebus's core and the sphere met with a flash of light, and in the next instant a man stood inside the forcefield. Well, part of a man. His lower jaw and and half of his face was missing, as was one of his legs and half of his torso. Despite this he stood easily on one leg, and no blood poured out from the exposed internals where his flesh ended. The man's blue eyes locked onto the copy of Rebus standing outside the force field, and a harsh, ragged voice forced its way into his mind. Power require power mind trapped inactive power need give power.
  9. "Take care. If Enullers were involved in creating this possible core, I'd hate to meet someone they thought needed to be sealed away like this." The sphere rolled to the edge of the forcefield and stopped. Rebus's core was pulled towards it as if by magnetism. "What kinds of water have you breathed in?"
  10. "That's a very useful power!" Val said enthusiastically. "Is it just water you can breath, or other liquids too?"
  11. The Narration wrapped around the sphere, and it began rolling towards Rebus's core. "What was that about not wanting to activate the sphere by accident?" Balitan backed away from Rebus and the sphere nervously.
  12. Balitan moved the scanner over, inspecting the Prismite of Rebus's core. The scan finished and he read through the results, stroking his chin. "Huh." He spun the screen over to face Rebus. "It's nearly identical to your core. Just significantly more dense." "Magic? What kind of magic?" Val asked.
  13. "Okay." The Valiant One watched Rose stalk away as well. What was that all about Subversion sighed deeply. "I... don't want to. It feels wrong, but... that's all just irrational, right? No reason to care, and all that." She pressed a hand to one side of her face. "It's just... I should've given the traveler my entire conscience, huh?" She looked up at the ennuller. "Go ahead. But... could you maybe save her memories? In case it turns out that this is all some plot where people are erased from existence in a temporary fashion?" "Oh yes, I saw Tull." The Dreamsmith looked around, wondering whether Onyx was in the room somewhere, or just speaking from another part of the castle. "I... wanted to speak to you. It seems you're already aware of some dangers, but... dark things are stirring in the World of Dreams. Nightmares of old rise closer to the surface than they have in any time since I've taken up my hammer." "I don't understand these people at all." Val muttered. "But I suppose that's to be expected when Narrators are involved."
  14. "Considering that she's a Narrator, I doubt Rose will be so lucky." The Valiant One walked over to Tam and grabbed her shoulder. "Hey! What's this all about?" @Through The Living Glass
  15. "I'm... Val." Said the Valiant One. "No, wait, Ian. Yes, Ian. That's what you can call me." He looks at Rose and Tam. "Any idea why they're arguing?" The portal's edge hits the sphere and shatters. The sphere itself is left on the other side of the room, undamaged. "I wasn't going to suggest cutting it, necessarily." Balitan walked over and picked the sphere up. "I just wanted to scan your Narrationblade to see if the Prismite organization was similar to the sphere's. If it is, then we could use your Narrationblade as a safer testing subject."
  16. The Valiant One walked into the room and waved at the new person. "Oh, hello! You're new."
  17. "I am uncertain whether that would be helpful. Could you summon your Narrationblade for a moment?"
  18. The Valiant One opened the door. "Hello?" The laser deflected off the sphere, splitting into a multitude of rays that harmlessly dissipated against the force fields.
  19. Balitan nodded. “Probably wise.” the hydraulic press had no effect on the sphere.
  20. “Would your Narrationblade not be better for this task?” Balitan inquired. He’d summoned a wall and was hunkering down behind it, in Beltane of his earlier confidence about the Prismite’s power stability.
  21. Not that traumatized. Just figuring out how to use a conscience, and someone accidentally causing everyone else to share her existential crisis.
  22. Other than the chisel gaining a divot in its edge, there was no effect.
  23. "It would probably not destroy the sample. I can't say for certain, but from my studies, Prismite doesn't seem very volatile."
  24. Balitan frowned. "Hard to say. I haven't strenuously tested the metal's durability."
  25. I know. Just a weird one. There is always the possibility of giving characters onscreen trauma. Actually, I realize now that it's possible that Moni has enough trauma to make up for all my other characters.
