  1. My favourite Order are the Lightweavers. Theirs are the Ideals we should all aspire to. Self awareness, self actualization and self acceptance. Regardless of all moral quandaries, we should all try to be honest with ourselves.
  2. True but it's often the case that they are
  3. @The New Rashek, you there?
  4. As in drag queen
  5. Thong
  6. Welcome to the Shard, @StoneBound, have fun!
  7. So, who tried to assassinate Emperor Ashravan? And did successfully assassinate his wife, Kurshina. The strongest contenders, the biggest suspects in-world as per the characters themselves, is the Glory Faction, one of the 80 factions which compete for power in the Rose Empire. The Emperor himself and the five arbiters including Gaotona are from the Heritage Faction. The Glory Faction stood to gain the most from the assassination and seemed to act as though to make the most of his possible death There are two out there options though, that I want to explore: Fjordell Empire or the as of yet unknown third empire on Sel. Both of these entities might, much like on Earth, like for their rival superpower to enter political turmoil. There was even a Shu Dereth priest in the Imperial Seat of the Rose Empire whom Shai encountered. The Derethi priest in red could've been a red herring, I guess but despite what Occam's razor might tell you, the simplest solution isn't always the right one, deviations do occur. It could also be a way to introduce us to the third empire on Sel or to tie them back to previous works set on the same world Historically speaking, it was common for outside powers to ally themselves with inside oppositions and rivals of the government they were trying to destabilize. Sometimes they provided resources to these rivals to topple the government or assassinate the ruler, sometimes they didn't want to rely on a coup d'état and used their own personnel and expected their insider allies to provide them with a way in. Either of these scenarios could fit the bill as well Also, why would Hoid try to have Shai captured, I mean, you could argue that he just wanted to get the Moon Sceptre but to me at least that doesn't seem quite right. He's Hoid, he should've been able to steal it himself or steal it from under the noses of both the Rose Empire & Shai if it came down to it. I'm not trying to vouch for the goodness of his heart but he doesn't seem like the type to do this. In the deleted prologue too, it seemed as though he wanted Shai to Soulforge Ashravan: https://www.brandonsanderson.com/the-emperors-soul-deleted-prologue-imperial-fool/ And it just seems weird for Hoid to meddle in the politics of other worlds for no reason. He is supposed to have access to a form of Fortune which lets him know where/when he needs to be (though not what for). Was something bigger going on behind the scenes of this novella? Why would stability in the Rose Empire be something big enough for Hoid to interfere or was that just two birds with one stone? What do you guys think? Or do we already have confirmation from Brandon?
  8. So a while back I made a list of the things I would love to see happen in the Cosmere, one of them was this: Humans being the equivalent of spren: I want to see a Shardworld where a Bond with a human grants the non-human (preferably a Cognitive Entity) access to an Investiture system Basically, a reverse of the trope of humans being granted magic by a magical entity, with the humans themselves granting magic to other entities A while before that, I'd also made a topic speculating on how Bonds between human beings could be possible in the Cosmere I don't know if we'll ever get to see exactly those, but now that I think about it, a workaround may be possible to have something similar, via Cognitive Shadows The idea seeded from this WoB: Stormlight Archives & Mistborn might provide some evidence for the possibility of such a thing occurring. Spren, which are Cognitive Entities, seem to require some Connection to the Physical, both via the ideas that they represent being channelled by beings in the Physical Realm and via the Nahel Bond for higher cognitive functioning if they want to enter the Physical Realm itself. It's the same case for Kelsier according to Preservation, he lacked a Connection to the Physical. Could this Connection take the form of a Bond? Other examples from the Cosmere which could possibly support this can be found in on the world of Threnody with the Shades. Silence's grandmother's Shade was possibly more self-aware as it is stated that she didn't ever try to attack Silence, there were also some interesting rumors regarding her waystop being protected by the Shade of her dead husband, possibly actually referring to her grandmother's Shade. So, am I cuckoo or is this idea feasible? Are there better ways? Can you Bond Cognitive Shadows and can doing so grant you access to the Investiture system that person had access to when they were alive? Also, could a stronger Connection to the Physical by this method possibly help a Cognitive Shadow escape the inexorable pull of the Beyond? The topics I mentioned: https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/88470-things-i-want-to-see-in-the-cosmere/ https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/87727-human-bonds/
  9. Kaladin is my favourite Stormlight character too. I actually stopped hating Amaram after reading Jasnah's description of the guy, he started seeming more... pitiably pathetic. Sadeas was evil but also kind of interesting. This left me with hating Hashal and her husband Matal, the Bridgecrews managers the most. So what's your favourite Order of the Knights Radiant? And which one do you think you'll actually join?
  10. The Nightwatcher beckons you to state your taste, genres, other fav books for comparison so she may make good recommendations
  11. Way too much. I've diversified my reading mediums to include web serials like Worm, Mother of Learning, Ra etc Currently I'm thinking about going back to finish Sylvain Neuvel's Sleeping Gods series. Maybe pick up the Book of Dust. Or a China Miéville book... we'll see. Currently going through by LGBT reading list though, so it'll be a while before I pick up my other reading lists. Plus uni. Hmm, the first real novel I read was Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines & Here Lies Arthur, and like many others from my generation, I was drawn in by Rick Riordan into the world of low-fantasy, more with Pat Walsh (& Cassandra Clare, but I'm over her). First high fantasy was, predictably, Lord of the Rings as well as Narnia.

  17. Woah, we have confirmation on Duralumin effect, thanks @Jozomby!
  18. Hmm, I think the symbols would've looked cooler on the belt buckle, Texas style, but instead of a Lone Ranger, you put an Allomantic symbol or a Radiant glyph
  19. Uh... oh no... um... the word you're looking for is 'coaster', not 'cup pad', those are menstrual hygiene products
  20. Yeah, that dude can write, like seriously, yuf! So, who are your other favourite authors?
  21. No "lol"! I like it Make it happen Go forth and write that fic!
  22. I don't know about the Realmatics but narratively & thematically, it seems very likely that the Oathgates would become fully functional once more
  23. We haven't had a completely Hoid centered Shardcast, true. But Hoid is more of a curiosity at this point, than a character. That's changing fast since he seems to be taking an active role on Roshar. We'll probably get one after Book 4 or 5. Till then, we've had plenty of Shardcast & 17S material related to Hoid, as a Worldhopper & as someone from before the Shattering. There's been Shardcast heavily involved with Hoid & a certain bead of metal, iirc
  24. Nale-d it!
