  1. I meant more that tan doesn't come on a normal dark brown -> grey spectrum.
  2. That's incredibly well spotted! I agree, it doesn't look like standard awakening, as that tends to turn objects grey.
  3. I'd always thought House Venture had just one kandra, Tensoon, though it could just be that Elend isn't fully informed.
  4. Any chance of these events being streamed or posted online otherwise?
  5. There's a street named Kenton Street in Mistborn 1. Make of that what you will.

    Skycolors

Other than Scythe, I don't think there's any mention of magic on Darkside. I wouldn't read too much into that though, since the Sand Masters don't consider them to be 'magicians' either.

    Skycolors

What exactly are Skycolors? There's very little information to go on, but from what I infer: Skycolours are individual to people. Different people have different colors. Skycolours can be seen in the eyes. I'm not sure how prominent and/or permanent they are, since I can't recall any specific mention of Dayside and Darkside eyes being different from each other. Skycolours can light up a room. Skycolours can be 'used' somehow, and can serve as a fashion accessory. Violet skycolour = magic powers somehow? At this point all I can guess is that Skycolors are like cones of light that shine out of Darksider eyes, lighting up their surroundings, though I can't see why they are then called Skycolors. Could they instead be like a spotlight beam that follows each person around permanently, shining from some arbitrary location in the sky? I've listed all relevant quotes below.
  8. Thanks for setting up this forum Chaos! One thing that's always confused me about this book is what exactly Slaughter and Despair are. Are they Shards? If so, how are they sons of what seems to be another Shard?
  9. That was me! The specific quote is: Q: On Threnody, Silence notices a 'tug' when cutting a wraith with her silver knife. Is is analogous to the tug a Shardbearer feels when cutting people with a Shardblade, i.e. you always feel it when cutting something from the Cognitive Realm while in the Physical Realm? A: Yes, that is a valid analogy.
  10. This is neither event nor signing, but I understand this is the right board for any answers we're able to get from Brandon. I asked him a few questions on Reddit and he was kind enough to respond: Spoilers Secret History Minor spoilers Shadows for Silence and Stormlight
  11. The medallions definitely do let you store weight, which is how the whole party was able to become light enough for the skimmer to carry.
  12. From this snippet, 'Vax' seems more like the name of a person. It would be really odd for me to wake up groggy and say 'Earth?', 'Home?' or something of the sort. It would be more natural to say 'Where?'. However, it would be completely understandable to see someone and ask 'Vax?' if that's who you think they look like. On the other hand, from the Elantris excerpt, it seemed more like Vax is a shardworld. How do we reconcile the two? I posit that Vax is the name of both the shardholder, and the planet said shardholder has settled on. Vax, bearer of God's own Narcissism...
  13. That sounds very similar to the Vorin belief that doing well at your Calling allows you to serve in the Tranquilline Halls. I wonder if the Vorin belief was inspired by Trell, or if all Shards can build up persona armies in this manner.
  14. I'm still confused. What connects the Haunted Man to Nazh? If anything I'd say he was Hoid, given that a white-haired storyteller was found where he landed, but Hoid's personality doesn't quite match the Haunted Man.
  15. This sounds related to the way Destra (Templeton Fig's wife) and Irich were both wasting away, as though they were being used to power someone else. How powerful would Hemalurgy be if you could change abilities on the fly, and not even have to kill your 'donors'? it sounds like you might not even suffer the normal power decay using this method.
  16. Why do people think Devlin is Nazh? Why would a worldhopper take the time to set up bank accounts in his name? And how would his name have ended up on ReLuur's list?
  17. There's a WoB somewhere that says that Iyatil is from a world other than Roshar, but her people originated on yet another world. I conclude that the original world here is Scadrial, and Iyatil is descended from people that accidentally made their way offworld after the events of the first trilogy.
  18. I've not read the Novella yet, but I'm surprised people think one-eye is Spook. Given the epilogue of BoM, it's quite obvious that the one-eyed man is Kelsier.
  19. I suspect that there's a good reason why Brandon hasn't revealed that piece of information. If was something he could tell us, it would have already been included in the book. I cannot, however, imagine what that reason might be. I too found it incredibly frustrating not to be shown how Shallan and Pattern first met. Kaladin's backstory also had some holes (Tarah!) but nothing so critical. If we get to the end of Oathbringer without knowing Dalinar's boon and curse from the Nightwatcher, I'm going to really wonder what's going on.
  20. What state do you all think Roshar will be left in by the end of Book 5? Book 2 left us with the most powerful country in revolt, Jah Keved pretty much destroyed, and disaster heading for the entire continent. With three more books to go, it will be interesting to see how far things can escalate. Personally, I think that a significant fraction of the population of the planet will have been wiped out. There will still be pockets of civilization, but none of the current nations will survive intact. The action in the second pentology will be split between Roshar, Damnation, and the Tranquilline Halls, making for the first Cosmere series set on multiple worlds. I'd also expect Scadrian world hoppers to play a role in the ultimate climax, given that Mistborn Era 2 takes place between the two sets of Stormlight books.
  21. She only 'sees' them when she draws. Unless I'm forgetting something, she's never drawn a picture of Elhokar or done one near him.
  22. Then again, she hasn't been in Kharbranth or around Mr T since she reestablished her bond with Pattern.
  23. When Brandon was in London for his Shadows of Self tour, I had the opportunity to ask him a few questions. The questions are listed in the signing thread, but I'd like to dig a bit deeper into one of his answers: And for good order, here's the passage in question: With all that out of the way, on to the theorycrafting... With Brandon's answer, it's now quite clear that in summoning her Shardblade, Shallan re-established her link to Pattern, which gave her the ability to soulcast. If it's Pattern that let her soulcast, then what were the other Cryptics doing here? I posit that they are complete red herrings and had nothing to do with Shallan's soulcasting at all, other than inadvertently scaring her into summoning Pattern. The voice she hears is Pattern prompting her into saying Words, the same way Sly prompted Kal to say the Words when defending Elhokar from Moash. Of course, for a Lightweaver, Words are about self-actualization, not oaths. Shallan's Words might be new or might be a repetition of ones she has said before, but that is a debate for another place. The Cryptics that Shallan 'saw' were actually chasing after her only out of curiosity at coming across a human who could sense them. But, what were they doing there in the first place? I think that as 'the lighteyes of the Spiritual Realm', Cryptics like to keep an eye on what the lighteyes of the Physical realm are up to. Specifically, they like to keep an eye on the rulers. The very first time Shallan drew Cryptics, they were hanging around Taravangian. I expect that's what they normally do, when not drawn away by something more curious. The only other place we've seen hints of Cryptics is around Elhokar. (this is well documented elsewhere on the forum so I'm not going to go into details here.) Surely it can't be a coincidence that we have spent time with exactly two kings over the course of the books and we've got Cryptics next to both of them. I expect that the next time Lift hangs out with Gawx, she's going to see a few Cryptics around him too. TL;DR: Liespren are lies
  24. Eh, he spent 105 days last year with fans. That's a big draw on time, and it's clearly hurting his actual writing time. I appreciate answers to questions as much as the next fan, but I'd much rather get the next book marginally quicker. It's not as though he's charging exorbitant amounts, nor is it the only way to ask him questions.
