  1. "Well . . . It's kind of an interesting story. I came to Seattle with someone else, and when they vanished, I was stranded. Jamie and Cassie found me and brought me here." Leona was probably magic too, but Evelyn didn't want to disclose anything else until she was absolutely sure. Besides, if Leona was magic then she would probably hear the full story later.
  2. "Oh, hi! My name's Evelyn. Nice to meet you. Do you live here?"
  3. Evelyn looked around the dining room and saw Draug sitting in one of the chairs. She gave him a small smile, and waited to see what people would say next.
  4. "Alright," Evelyn said. "How many people live here anyways? Also, is there a library?"
  5. Sure. This should probably cover most of it. Cassie and Jamie went to pick up Evelyn and just got back. Just about everyone else went shopping for hot dogs and campfire stuff. After they make and eat lunch, they're planning to do an intervention for Luther because he seems very blind to peoples emotional needs. One more thing that I'm not sure if you were here for, Thade, an unmade, is planning to attack Seattle somehow. The rest of the council forbade an outright war at this point in time, and he's trying to find ways to change their mind. His current strategy seems to be kidnapping a radiant. I think that's just about everything? Please feel free to correct me if there's anything else.
  6. "Hi," Evelyn said, shaking his hand. "My name's Evelyn Reed. I'm an Elantrian, and yes, I will explain what that means."
  7. Evelyn snapped out of whatever thoughts she had been thinking -- probably ones about libraries and huge houses -- and hurried to catch up with Cassie. "Wait, who's Uncle James?"
  8. Evelyn followed Cassie inside, still staring in awe at the huge house.
  9. "Should we go in?" Evelyn didn't seem to be asking anyone in particular.
  10. What if the power for the magic came from chaos? Like heat or random energy that's bouncing around. Stuff that exists already, but would normally just bounce around like crazy or dissipate or something. The math changes the energy into a usable form by imposing order. The different kinds of math shape it, kind of like how Aons shape the Dor.
  11. "That's a house? But it's so big! Please tell me there's a library. With a place that big, there has to be a library, right? If not, then I will create one book by book. Uh . . . I mean, if that's okay . . ." Evelyn had gotten out of the car, and was now standing next to Cassie, staring in awe at the house. It must be over six times the size of her house. A place like that was sure to have a library, right? She had already read the books she had brought with her several times over.
  12. "That sounds really cool! I would love to see more," Evelyn said to Cassie as they neared the car.
  13. "What do some of the others look like?"
  14. Elantrains have some knowledge of other investitures, but Evelyn herself does not. She has only been a Elantrian for a few years, and she's still young, so most of that knowledge has been withheld. She would have been told eventually, either when she finished her training in the Aons or when she turned eighteen, but being stranded in Seattle made it so she found out a little bit early. "Cool. Do all spren look like Joy? Evelyn turned another corner, and they came in sight of Jamie.
  15. "That's odd. Elantrains live in the same area because that's usually where our powers are strongest. I would have thought that other magics would be more spread out. You said that your powers were caused by spren? Does that mean that there are more spren in Seattle?"
  16. "That's interesting. I'm from the UK, where the Elantrians live. We mainly stay there because of certain rules of our power, so once I heard that there were other magics I thought they would be more spread out. What order is Jamie from?"
  17. Evelyn walked in silence for a time, turning a corner. "So those voidbringers that chased me . . . How did they know to look for Radiants? Are there really that many around here, or did they somehow know you were coming?"
  18. "Wait, Radiants?" Evelyn asked, her eyes growing wide. "That's what those voidbringers were looking for! Are you a radiant? Why are the voidbringers looking for you? Also, different types of Radiants?"
  19. "Oh. Sorry. Spren and Seons just seemed so similar, so I was wondering . . ." Evelyn looked away. "So, You say that you need to use oaths to get more power. How does that work? Do you need to promise to do certain tasks or something? Kind of like a quest in exchange for more power?"
  20. "Yep. That's pretty much it. So, you said that your spren, Joy, was bonded with you. How did you get her? Maybe it's different with spren, but seons are usually passed down through families. Did you have a Willshaper family member that passed her on to you or what?" Evelyn followed Cassie, walking forwards.
  21. "Agreed," Evelyn said. "I should probably take it down before it attracts too much attention, but if you want, I could probably make one in a less obvious place if you want to train with it." Evelyn stepped forward and placed a hand on the center of the wall. The wall vanished, leaving a faint after image of Aon Edo before completely disappearing.
  22. The wall flashed brighter for a moment after the rocks hit, and the rocks went flying backwards and hit the ground. Evelyn grinned.
