MFW I learn that memes are named for a totally legit psychological phenomenon and not just cause it sounds funny for internet's sake. Memes bring together Knights Radiant.

Interesting. That sure would be a cool expansion to the magic, but I'd need to see some evidence of it being possible first.
-
Okay, fair. So you're suggesting that somehow, there are other alloys or metals that would only have an effect on the 16 base allomantic metals' effects?
-
That could be interesting, but I don't think it would work, for a few reasons. 1. the Dor is just... a mess of Investiture in the Cognitive realm. The investiture you get from burning a metal comes right from Preservation in the spiritual realm. 2. The number of allomantic metals is and always will be 16, and Mistborns prove that burning multiple metals at once doesn't modify the effects (unless you count Duralumin/nicrosil/etc, but that's it's normal effect, even if you try and burn it by itself).

Unless you're a Steelrunner. Then you're good. Then you can outrun bullets and punch people at mach 1.

That sounds totally awesome and even plausible, especially if they have stronger-than-average steel or iron, either via spike or by medallion filled with "ability to burn steel/iron" as it may be (a la the BoM) which could be quite interesting. Molecular-level allomancy would be really cool regardless of how exactly it's achieved.

the CR isn't 2d, it's just that the lack of cognitive presence in outer space means that there's basically nothing for the CR to be based on so the distances get massively condensed.

I prefer shardblade (living, if possible, because of the versatility in form) because of the convenience. You don't have to worry about carrying around a big set of plate (though it would seem Living plate can do the whole summoning thing too), you can just summon it to your hand (even if it's dead, though it takes a moment and also you don't get the shapeshifting perks). I mean, yeah, Lift proves that a living blade can be used for pretty much anything at this point. I'd probably use a living blade IRL for cooking tbh. I don't really encounter people that need to be stabbed. The problem with a shardknife for cooking is that all of my cutting boards and plates and stuff need to be solid Aluminum... Oh well, it's fine! Aluminum IRL isn't as ungodly expensive as it is in the cosmere (though if shardblades were real then Aluminum WOULD have a big advantage for defensive purposes... drat).

Imo now that we know Nightblood both contains Ruin-based investiture and is the most invested non-shard... tbh it feels like he's a Lesser Ruin. If anything is going to be called a "lesser shard" it'd probably be him.
-
Iirc only Preservation can choose to deposit some of its Investiture as Lerasium. Actually would it even be called Lerasium in era 2? Would it be like... An isotope of Harmonium with just Preservative Investiture rather than both? Same for Atium... Interesting. Harmonium-P and Harmonium-R. Preservation and Ruin.

One thing I'd like to mention is that if Identity is the only obstructing factor to an Allomancer burning a metalmind of their allomantic metal... Unkeyed metalminds are free compounding sources. If your steelrunner buddy can get an F-Aluminum spike, he can give you speed to compound for a sudden boost. Vaguely reminds me of nicrosil allomancy tbh.

Ok yeah, I knew that was the biggest flaw with it.

What if, instead of only missing out on one surge due to association with Honor, you're right, and he IS leaving out one for Honor and one for Cultivation, but then ADDING BACK a new, 9th surge associated with HIMSELF? Instead of Adhesion or Progression, the other 8 surges are present, and then the 9th surge Odium has available is uniquely associated to him? This is literally just a speculative hypothesis. I have no evidence. I'm just throwing in my 2 surg- i mean cents.
-
That's an interesting hypothesis. Maybe before the humans came from Ashyn, and before the KR, the Listeners could have called them that? Or something similar. So for Radiant Listeners (obvs not the original title... or is it? idk) Anyway, for Radiant Listeners to be a thing, a normal Listener could bond a lesser spren that's related to the "Idealspren" they want to bond; windspren for Honorspren/Leaderspren, Creationspren for Cryptics, and so on. Actually, there might be some precedent for this, with these lesser spren being attracted to the Knight Radiants we have thus far. Shallan attracts Creationspren, Kaladin attracts Windspren (even in the CR where they're stupidly rare) and Dalinar attracts Gloryspren. What if this is because those lesser spren are like "hey, wait, I recognize that thing they're bonded to, I'm supposed to be there too!" but they can't find a Gemheart to inhabit or the Spiritweb isn't "incomplete" like a Listener's, so they just hang around nearby in a sort of confused yet attracted state (like a moth around a lamp).
-
That is a good point. But then what about those Forms would make Timbre be attracted to them? Maybe it's more of the personality and mental state, like with humans. If so, it makes sense that both Eshonai and Venli attracted a Lightspren, as the first/primary personality trait of a Willshaper is Resolute. The other trait is Builder, which is... kinda vauge, imo, but I think I get what it means. Regardless, it seems like both Eshonai and Venli were a good match for the definitive traits of Willshapers.
-
Actually, according to a WoB (linked on the Coppermind's page for Singers) it says that Radiant-spren refuse to bond with Singers/Listeners because of actions they've done in the past (I imagine this refers to the False Desolation). But then we have Venli... Who has a Voidspren (of some variety, idk if it was specified) and a Lightspren (AKA the Willshaper's Radiant-spren). So that's interesting. Was it mentioned if Timbre gave Venli any new physical features, or was she still using the Voidspren to maintain her current Form?
-
Agreed. If you can present a list of evidence for this, I'll consider the possibility, but right now, I'm skeptical.

Cultivation and Preservation. Growth and... not-growth. Could be even better than Ruin and Preservation.

Nicrosil Compounded Breath vs Collected Others' Breaths
Halyo_Alex replied to Halyo_Alex's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ok yes, that WoB is what I was thinking of. But then, if all of the Compounded breaths (if it's even possible to do that) have the same Cognitive-ness as your original breath with your own beliefs and stuff, would it have an effect like tapping Aluminum Feruchemy (or maybe Electrum for Determination)?- 4 replies

I was thinking about Awakening in the shower today and I wondered if a Nalthian compounding their own breath (using either Hemaspikes or Medallions) would have a difference at high heightenings compared to a normal person who has gathered many breaths from many people. The primary realmatic differences I can see right off the bat are: 1. The Breath will have only the Compounder's Identity, and Intent (unless using Preservation's Investiture to Compound it causes some weird overwriting/blending). 2. The breaths may resonate (not Resonance-resonate, but like, harmonize, but not Harmony-harmonize) with their matching Intent and Identity and constructively interfere. The effects of this are obviously unknown for now, but let's speculate. I feel like it would be easier to Awaken using compounded Breath because all of them share the Awakener's natural Intent (even if slightly muddied with Preservation's Investiture due to the nature of Compounding) so focusing their Intent into a Command would take less effort. The harmonization of the Breaths may also mean it takes fewer to reach certain Heightenings, or that those milestones have new or different properties. What do you all think?

The Great Venn Diagram of Rosharran Magic™
Halyo_Alex replied to TheFoxQR's topic in Stormlight Archive
That looks pretty cool, and also reminds me that whatever Renarin is would be on the border between KR and Voidbinding, in that case. I also like this in that it makes the Regals and Fused more closely related on the chart, which feels good because, in a way, they are close. Both are odium-related Singer bodies, but one uses a variety of Voidspren to have many forms with the Surges, while the other is basically a cycling rebirth for ancient Singers' Cognitive Shadows. Crap, now I wanna see [Mistborn Spoiler] but that's EXTREMELY not gonna happen. Maybe with some protagonist from Roshar who ends up as a Cognitive Shadow could yoink a Singer body and become a Pseudo fused instead. Or maybe just Venli. Who really knows at this point. -
The Great Venn Diagram of Rosharran Magic™

Audible snort- Knights Oblivious! Ahahahah! That sounds like a parody waiting to happen, man. I think for a serious title, Knights Abyssal works quite well. EDIT: I JUST HAD A THOUGHT. Can a Fused bond a Voidspren and become a Regal at the same time??? Going off of your neat triple-venn diagram, that would... put them in the Voidbinding overlap... -

Gotta say, I love the formatting on the new OP. Makes things much clearer imo, and I'm really agreeing with your theorizing here. I also like the idea that because Renarin is a sort of half void-binder (Void Knight? Knight Voidiant??) he's technically on that little purple circle segment inside the overlap of Honor and Cultivation, rather than smack dab in the middle of the three. Talk about being the 1%. But I digress; I love the formatting you've added, it clarifies a lot of stuff, it makes me agree more strongly. Great work! -
The First (or potentially last) Ideal for a Fused
Halyo_Alex replied to TheFoxQR's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It's also worth noting that the two orders in the center gem do NOT have lines connecting to the equivalent voids of Tension, Adhesion, Progression, and Illumination. Interesting... -
Mistborn Dice: Part Two (Pledge Manager is open to all)
Halyo_Alex replied to Pagerunner's topic in Mistborn
I think i can identify all 16 base metals. Can't figure out which is Atium/Malatium, and Lerasium is way on the right, and harmonium is very clearly the rainbow one Also the runes and numbers are embossed/debossed based on push/pull, it just so happens that Alloys seem to consistently be Push and pure metals seem to consistently be Pull. I think the electrum die is my favorite of them (totally not biased, cough cough) it's just SO shiny and the debossing looks so good.
