This is kind of just a weird thought that went through my head, but what would such an alloy have as its properties? We know Aluminum is the "anti-Investiture" metal, and Silver seems to have some special power against Shades (and is apparently significant to the cosmere in general), so... What would happen? Silver isn't allomantically functional, so i'm not asking about that (RIP Silvereyes) but i mean in terms of, say, having a knife made of this alloy and using it on Shades, or sprinkling it on Withered injuries. Would the Aluminum content prevent the silver from corroding in that case? For that matter, would Aluminum be better at shade-related stuff than Silver itself?

Does the Cosmere Exist in a Multiverse?
Halyo_Alex replied to SwordNimiForPresident's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So like, a timeline where Vin managed to kill Ruin without dying and became Harmony? ...That sounds fun, but unlikely. So we ended up in the timeline where she died and Sazed became Harmony. Nice. -
Does the Cosmere Exist in a Multiverse?
Halyo_Alex replied to SwordNimiForPresident's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You mean like the Many Worlds kind of multiverse? Where each choice branches spacetime into it's own path? Well, we know Atium and other forms of Fortune are not irrefutable visions of the future... So yeah, I could see that being the case. It shows you the most likely future. -
physics Invested 1.2.1 – A Mistborn Physics Demonstration
Halyo_Alex replied to Artemos's topic in Mistborn
Welp, foiled myself there And I'm glad they can, because that opens up the possibility for iron Feruchemy for some Wax-style steelpushes and ironpulls. Maybe some heavy-metal (hah) obstacle crushing via high mass steelpushes? -

Why not a clever application of Allomantic Bendalloy for "bullet time"? Then again, you wouldn't be slow when swinging from anchor to anchor from your perspective... And the bubble wouldn't follow you (unless these are "quirks of the Primer Sphere") -
physics Invested 1.2.1 – A Mistborn Physics Demonstration
Halyo_Alex replied to Artemos's topic in Mistborn
Ok, this is absolutely, irrefutably awesome. The moment I first heard of the Metallic Arts, I wanted to be able to play a videogame that used them. Seeing all the stuff you've got so far is only heightening my excitement for this. I'm not good at math, nor game development, but I can say that I'm excited to see what effects you translate the various allomantic metals to (and I can't wait to see if there are obstacles that only a Duralumin Steelpush/ironpull could overcome, just to enhance the sense of power Duralumin feels like it offers in the books). I'm most curious about something like allomantic zinc/brass... How would that work? Changing enemy aggression to target each other/not you, depending on what metals you use? I dunno, I'm just trying to express my hype for this and it's turned into a ramble, I'll shut up now -
All right, all right. I found it for you guys. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100-rbooks-ama-2015/#e3489 I guess, having looked at this directly, it is open to interpretation like that. I took it to mean he literally couldn't get far in it's usage due to it's Feruchemical effects.

I literally mentioned that in my first post. But thanks.

This has to bother more people than just me, right? I mean, the only info I could find on this is that Sazed, as Harmony, "couldn't get very far" when trying to use it. And that really confuses me. What could it store that makes it difficult for him, as a Vessel/Shardholder (whatever the proper term is)? The only thing I can really think of, after much deliberation and a very long stretch of the imagination, would be "Mortality", such that when you store it, you become more "Mortal" (more likely to die) and when tapping it, you become less likely to die. More "immortal". And even then, that seems really unsatisfying and weird to me. It almost works, because I imagine storing Mortality as a Shard Vessel would be very weird, but it just doesn't feel right. Can anyone bring to my attention any WoBs or other info on Malatium Feruchemy? Or any personal theories with decent evidence, even. I just gotta know...

Alright. That's a solid argument against my admittedly pretty crackpot theory. Thanks for taking the time to explain this stuff to a poor soul like me. :'D

Honestly, we could use Medallions on the inside of armor to give various effects, like F-Pewter/F-Steel, etc, to really make it like "shardplate". Feruchemically Invest the crap outta the armor metal itself (presumably Steel) so that it resists shardblades/etc, and boom.

Cosmere FTL and the Mechanization of Spirit Webs
Halyo_Alex replied to Steeldancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This sounds like it could be related to keeping your spiritweb intact with cybernetic enhancements (when era 4 rolls around). if a computer with nothing organic can develop its own spiritweb, then i'm fairly confident a person with, say, a cybernetic arm, who perceived that arm as a real part of them, would still have spiritweb in their arm. It might not be their original spiritweb, but. -
Cosmere FTL and the Mechanization of Spirit Webs
Halyo_Alex replied to Steeldancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think (keyword think) that i saw a WoB that a sufficiently advanced AI would develop it's own spiritweb and you could spike it with hemalurgy, with it's own crazy consequences (like spiking it with a big copper spike). -
The Primacy of Perception: A Realmic Theory
Halyo_Alex replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ho-lee CRAP My brain hurts. It hurts a lot. ... But I think I get it. If this is an accurate description of how the Cosmere works, then wouldn't everyone be able to Soulcast? Or lightweave? ...wait, what about Hoid's Yolish lightweaving? I feel like there's something I'm not picking up on here. Help. :'D But other than my brain running itself in circles, this is all fantastic and I applaud your theorizing! -
Well, my reasoning for the spike vs the medallion is that pewter allomancy is instinctive to the point where it can be burned unconsciously. I don't think an unconscious, critical condition patient can tap a Nicrosilmind filled with allomantic pewter to then burn pewter unconsciously. I could be wrong, though. As for "ethical" Hemalurgy, it's been stated that Gold Feruchemy can heal the spiritweb. So if you give someone a gold Feruchemy/allomancy medallion, and have them compound gold while you spike them, would that help them survive and heal the spiked bit of web?
-
Oh, that's true! Air supply for submarines, too, I would imagine. Given that this is for era 3 tech. Hmm... Well, gold medallions in hospitals for healing broken bones and chronic diseases would be life-saving. What about some applications of "ethical" Hemalurgy? Like spiking someone with allomantic pewter so they can survive long enough to tap a gold medallion to heal fatal injuries.

Oh, that's true. Dual purpose A/C and central heating, then! What other ettmetal applications of Feruchemy are there for mechanical uses... Hm. Well, what about an ettmetal/cadmium pneumatic system? I think that could work, if the Cadmium physically stores air, and can release it. If not, then no, this wouldn't work.
-
Oh, that's great! Then that solves magical central heating and whatnot; giant ettmetal network through the house, charged by a Firesoul ferring. Or just a mechanism that stores heat outside, and releases it inside, where air vents circulate it. ...wait, does that screw with thermodynamics? Probably not but that sounds kinda screwy.

I still doubt we'll be seeing ironmind guns anytime soon... Then again, making a layer of iron around the outside of the components that could be charged with Feruchemy COULD work... It would act like a shield for the metal inside, right?
-
Might be that they're just the wrong metal. I doubt he'd have guns made of pure iron through and through, and be able to charge every component. A sword however, could be a single piece of a single metal.
-
Alright, fair enough. I get this was a pretty out-there theory, and that's exactly why I put it out here, so that knowledgeable people like you could explain the parts that wouldn't work. So thank you.

(specific response to the bit in bold) This is sort of exactly what my Awakened ring is an attempt to circumvent. It's meant to link to the Dor back through the Spiritual realm, im picturing it being sorta like a Fiber Optic cable of Investiture (very little loss, highly focused line) from the Dor, through the spiritual realm, into the Ring/elantrian. But I could be mistaken about Breaths being able to do something like that.

Ok before you call me insane, let me explain my thought process here. Firstly, the inspiration: I recently read a theory that Nightblood, by being Awakened with "destroy" in its command, is attempting to mimic Ruin's investiture (or is otherwise Connecting to Ruin in some form). The black mist Nightblood emits actually lends itself to this theory. it resembles the black Mist of Ruin/the Deepness, after all. The gaseous form of Ruin's investiture (if i'm not mist-aken ). Secondly, the Extrapolation: using other Shardic Intent-related keywords in an Awakening of metal with thousands of breaths would cause a similar effect if nightblood is in fact Connected to/mimicking Ruin's investiture. So with that established, let me get into the meat of this mad idea of mine. A ring, necklace, or other metal accessory, awakened at the Ninth Heightening, commanded along the lines of "devote yourself to connecting me to the Dor" (or some other Command that implies this) with the appropriate mental image of a Connection from Elantris/Arelon/the Dor to the ring/the wearer. (though Nightblood is already very effective at connecting to his wielder, as we've seen with Szeth in SA, so it might just need to be connecting the Dor and the Ring) Another thing that makes me think this COULD work is that the Dor WANTS to have an outlet. using Breaths to basically amp up the connection such that it works far from Elantris/Arelon would (imo) not be resisted by the Dor once it was established (especially considering you could Awaken the ring in Elantris to make it easier to Connect). This theory basically hinges on a lot of small, theoretical quirks of Awakening and AonDor to work, but if it did, an Elantrian could use AonDor anywhere in the Cosmere! I'm totally ok with someone debunking this with facts or theories of their own, I just need to know what y'all think.

sounds like a Lightsaber... but without the Light. ...and not neccesarily Saber shaped... But you know what i mean. Extending blade from a compact, non-lethal hilt. ...I really like where this could go with Allomancy actually, cause if someone had Iron and steel (using hemalurgy obvs) they would be able to mimic some of the Force-throwing shenanigans like the lightsaber boomerang thing. What other metallic arts stuff would blend well with that sort of thing... Oh, making the sword a Metalmind by charging/investing it instead of using the iron/steel gimmick, so that it's immune/resists enemy steel/iron allomancy. Make Metal Swords Great Again plus then it has a charge on hand for combat (most likely Steel for speed) and is big as heck, so it could store a TON of it.
-
Alright, I figured as much. Still, I'm glad I asked. It was still insightful to some hemalurgic stuff I was a little hazy on.
