  1. They do match up a bit too neatly. However in the course of probability it is probable that many improbable things will happen. I was just reading about the warring states period and it kind of struck me.
  2. The three major schools of thought that emerged in China during the warring states period were Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism. Interestingly these conform almost exactly to the three godspren. The idea behind Legalism is that the state should act as a sort of automatic karma. Bad actions should be punished and good actions should be rewarded in predictable ways by and independent machine like bureaucracy. This corresponds to the Sibling. Taoists on the other hand state that structures are artificial. Instead acting spontaneously accordingly with the overall natural order of things that can only be experienced directly leads to the greatest human happiness. This corresponds to the NW. A natural spirit of growth and change renowned for its unpredictability. Finally Confucianism states that acting correctly with good rituals and paying homage to those socially or politically superior to you is important as is those individual's benevolence toward their lessors. This corresponds to the Stormfather. A great being that cares deeply for his children and must maintain proper relationships. Am I on to something or am I just reading way to much well stuck in quarantine?
  3. Actually during early battles in WoKs Dalinar notes that some parshendi don't have beards.
  4. Well he can identify that she is the leader between her different deaths(I am guessing from her fighting style and skin patterns) and potentially from prisoners. Along with knowing how fused are made they have probably figured out that fused gender != sex.
  5. I know I am nitpicking but technically we do not.
  6. It is Allomancer Jak. All polls unnecessary.
  7. Um... Yay?
  8. He might feel that way but he knows better. I also think Dalinar deserves a lot of credit for pulling him from the roster.
  9. I completely understand where you are coming from. However cultural conditioning makes me, and probably Kaladin as well, think that the relationship is inappropriate.
  10. So if chapter 12 is the "start" of the next book it will probably be some kind of attention grabbing scene. I personally think we will see a bunch of Odium's forces do some things that make absolutely no sense or make sense but have unusual implications.
  11. Inconclusive. It may be just that it took some time for them to figure out the magic system.
  12. They did. Taravangian personally lead the project.
  13. Technically steel is just an alloy of iron and carbon with some other stuff thrown in. Assuming you know how to generate enough heat you can easily extract carbon from plants or limestone.
  14. No she is younger. Also listeners do mature a bit faster. I mean shippers aside I do think that Leshwi has a degree of personal interest. It is almost certainly not an accident that this chapter mentions the fused call themselves "the branded ones" more or less. Remind you of anyone?
  15. Unfortunately no. It is a strong indication but until Navani positively identifies it I am afraid we can't know for sure.
  16. We think. It would be nice to have this confirmed. I seriously doubt that. She identifies Vasher as an old friend but says she was looking for a criminal. Exactly. Used strategically NB has the capacity to do a lot of damage. The master tactician does not waste motion. He doe not deploy resources in access of his needs nor does he take action without reason. If team radiant wishes to risk an irreplaceable asset they will do so on a critical battlefield at the right time. Imagine Dalinar having a great Odium ambush opportunity during SA5 but can't follow through because he lost Nightblood during RoW at the battle of 10,000 surgebinders. Sure it might have been a good idea at the time but right now he can't take advantage of a perfect opportunity.
  17. A number of possibilities exist. I however can only think of one rational for keeping Venli alive if Odium does in fact know. It is not like another person can reach her her position and she is not working for another power she is instead leading a movement that will do at least minor damage to Odium's cause. I will get to one reason later but in the the meantime let us assume Odium cannot see. If this is true Odium must either have some kind of limited capacity to see or something is blocking him. Possibilities for that include the gemheart itself, Venli's physical body and soul, and Timbre. Lets start with the gemheart. I don't think this one will function as a particularly good block unless infused. Metals are like light because power from the spiritual realm desires to push through into the physical realm. Gemstones only seem to behave similarly when infused. As to Venli's physical body. I think an argument for some level of interference could easily be made. Listeners do drink water with metals in it and living beings act like blocks for steelsight as well. I don't doubt that Odium could see through this given his raw power level but that would imply that he is paying attention to Venli specifically. As to Timbre. It has always struck me as odd that Odium can't just point out where the soulcaster and spandreeds in Kholinar were. He even invented screamers specifically to deal with this situation. So he apparently is unable to notice spren fast enough to account for them even when he wants to. As such if Timbre is running interference I don't think Odium will know. The only reason so far that I can think that Odium would leave Venli around is because he wants to divide opposing forces. Spren and humans in full cooperation sounds like a problem especially if Dalinar is in the mix. If Venli prevents any new human radiants then it allows him to isolate and where down Dalinar's forces.
  18. Or perhaps this is what it feels like to become one.
  19. Exactly. In the cognitive realm? Training. I am trying to find her limits.
  20. Yes but it would allow greater power use. What about several buildings or several other people grouped together? The close confines of a city make visual conformation extraordinarily difficult. True but we know they will positively ID soulcasters from OB.
  21. Totally worth it given all of the advantages. As far as she knows. However her method relies on direct observation. What if a wall is in the way? Navani's PoV indicates this is untrue. It has been. Blades are made of steel. Certainly a possiblity. Big events might generate fortune Odium can pick up on.
  22. In fact the conclusion seems pretty obviously false. That is possible but if true it implies that she could use stormlight rather then voidlight unless fueling with voidlight is also quiter. I think we can reject this one. A fused that was acting but behind enough interference to avoid positive identification would create a false positive. Also if they could figure this one they could also show them how to identify fabrails. Almost certainly.
  23. I do not understand. If we assume that the CR view Venli manages is a direct result of her fueling transportation with voidlight then it begs the question "why not do the same with cohesion" does it not? This implies to me at least that she is doing something else. There is an observable difference between radiant and shanay-im gravitation.
  24. More likely they are designed to ignore or only detect certain investitures. More like it seems the most plausible as alternatives don't make as much sense. However since normal radiants can't use voidlight at all(as far as we know anyway) this also implies that transpiration does not normally function this way. It also begs the question of why cohesion can't be used fueled by voidlight if transportation can.
