immortal words Oath Four Revealed?
Karger replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
Kaladin has officially and internally sworn himself completely to Dalinar. Anyone who doubts his loyalty is nuts. Why exactly does Dalinar need him to be roped in? An oath centered around forgiving others(or yourself) for the wrongs they commit and expecting/hoping better of them makes sense. Thus Kaladin's oath would probably read something like "I will allow/expect others to save those that I cannot." Or ""I will understand that some are beyond my ability to save."- 51 replies

[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage
Karger replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sure but exactly what is the political benefit of a Kaladin Jasnah relationship? Both of them are already members of allied political factions and I cannot think of a case where a marriage between them would actually alter either faction's beliefs. -
noun: inspiration 1. the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

Isn't that directly contradictory to the oath he just swore?- 51 replies

Or lack of cunning on the part of the shard indicating incredibly poor guile or perhaps a lack of it at all.

Would they? Inspiration is just skill. What one does with it is up to them.

immortal words Oath Four Revealed?

I know. Oath four seems to be about fairness but how is self forgiveness related to not being discreet in the help you give? Those are two separate concepts(or at least I can't understand them being interpreted any other way).- 51 replies

I believe that Sadees's rule began immediately after the rule of the Heirocracy(as in he was the one who overthrew them in the war of loss). Nohadon ruled during the Heraldic epochs prior to the founding the the knights radiant(we think) although surgebinding was already a thing.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The number of cousins is to much even for a shard.
-
That would make most sense to me.

A shard of guile would want to increase guile. This makes no sense whatsoever as a shard. A sentient force that attempts to make more people better at fooling one another but at the same time better at seeing through being fooled by one another?

I am aware of this but I am not sure how it helps. Self forgiveness and and for whatever reason refusing to help others do not seem compatible even in spirit.- 51 replies

The magic system might be guile but I think the shard would more properly be called inspiration. A being with godlike power to figure things out and to help others do the same would be called Inspiration the for the same reasons that Preservation lacked any astonishing survival instincts. A shards intent refers to its desire to effect other things not its effect on the vessel(otherwise how the hell would Odium function/.).
-
Don't compound because compounding is bad.
-
But in the hands of a deity it would make a lot of sense while guile would not as a deity generally does not have to worry about outwitting anybody.
-
I expect my deities to have anger and to value honor but I would think that there intelligence would fall under inspiration more then anything else.
-
Why would any deity need to lie(I know that this is not necessarily what guile means but still, guile is an extremely human idea)?

Szeth - A Shard's champion(Probably Cultivations)

No Cultivation was helping Seonid If Cultivation and Honor were romantically involved, why did Cultivation not help Honor against Odium? Brandon Sanderson She did. -
[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage
Karger replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think either relationship is currently viable. Kaladin might be unusually mature and Jasnah might seem physically younger then she is depending on your interpretation of Shallan's description(even thought Shallan clearly has a thing for older women see Tyn) but neither of them have any common life experiences. Also Lift and Kaladin are only 6 years apart which in 10 years will not be significant. Kaladin and Jasnah are over 16 and that will be significant for some time. Jasnah does not discuss her sexuality publicly leading many both in and out of world to speculate that she is ace. Make of that what you will. Sigh. What is it with fans? Other fulfilling non romantic relationships exist that could potentially help him with his depression. I would like to remind everyone that Kaladin's most important and fulfilling relationship to date was with his brother. Jasnah is not amoral. She likes prefers to govern her morality by reason. Please do not confuse the two. Given the difference between the two of them in terms of philosophies and beliefs. I am not sure that this is the lesson Kaladin would learn nor am I sure that Jasnah is realy capable of teaching Kaladin anything. If genocide was logical and unavoidable but it is noteworthy that the diagram has never tried to take in Jasnah despite ample opportunity. I do not think she is anywhere near as immoral as you seem to believe. I kind of doubt that we are going to see a cultural revolution. Generally crises have entrenched existing social and political orders. Radiants may be diversifying gender wise but I bet in 30 years they will just be considered genderless like ardents. You are expecting KALADIN to be a voice of caution and reason over JASNAH? Kaladin is getting better at the time. He is feeling happier and becoming reflective. This is healthy and good for him. -
[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage
Karger replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes. A person spending many sleepless nights trying to save the world at constant risk of assassination is clearly indifferent to the sufferings of the people. Murders who she for some reason has an irrational hatred of. She decided against that, unfortunately as things turned out. Only by Shallan. Dalinar likes her as more of a friend and Navani is almost always exasperated with her. People who know Jasnah don't regard her like that. That is because she is usually right and because they know how forceful she is. Shallan notes that that is likely for political reasons. Taravangian and by extension his city survives by being deferential and helpful to everyone more powerful then him. -
I hold the suckling child in my hands, a knife at his throat ...

I always thought it refers to what the diagram members themselves were doing. Killing innocents in the hope of saving the world. -

Cash obviously. I know there is a thread of this for stormlgiht somewhere. Here are some of my favorites that I remember. Rock: Would get a cake with happy birthday sung in his native language. Bridge four would butcher this but he would love it anyway. Lift: Bacon and eggs with a new set of soft clothing Kaladin: Adolin would steal his uniform and a bunch of fashion updates would miraculously appear on it. Kaladin would grumble about it constantly but mysteriously where it anyway.

It happens. I have a few of my own theories that did not pan out.
