  1. Oh, sorry, I'm not Thaylen - I don't believe in the Passions. Maybe the uncovered safehand threw you off?
  2. Hmm. Well, manliness is still subjective, is the issue. If you're looking at traditional ideals of manliness, then I'd say yes. But really, I don't think that "manly" is well enough defined at this point.
  3. I don't think I have the context to properly answer this question... but Spock the fictional character has pretty nice ears, I suppose. Well, it depends on the respective goat and sheep. As a general rule, perhaps? Sheep imagery commonly focuses on the ewes rather than the rams, from what I've seen, while goats can be either (both male and female goats have horns). Oh man, you've caught me - it's been years since I've read that book (although I obviously loved it when I did). Maybe I'm due for a reread. Is it the Hooloovoo? (I confess to internet research on that one).
  4. Well, it's my 2-year anniversary of joining the Shard, and the day of my 1,000th post. Why not add a milestone and make it the first time I post something on my profile, as well?

If anyone's wondering what the 1,000th post was, I made an AMA. From what I can tell, it's a reasonably traditional choice.

Anyway, the reason that I'm writing this is basically to just say that this place is great. Thank you to everyone who's chatted with me these last few years. This little corner of the internet has helped me in so many ways. I already look forward to the next thousand posts!

Woo-hoo! May another year of friendship pass in happiness!

  5. Well, here I am at last! 1,000 posts, after 2 years on the Shard. As per the time-honored tradition, I figured I might as well make it an AMA. So ask me anything! Points for creativity. I do reserve the right to refuse to answer something, but I don't really anticipate that being a problem - I'm willing to answer strange questions.
  6. Welcome to the Shard! I'm glad you were able to discover the amazingness of the Cosmere .
  7. The "or anyone, really" does make a big impact. Rlain being gay is the obvious conclusion, (it's the one I drew while reading) but that would have to mean that being gay among listeners is pretty unprecedented. I mean, maybe that just means that it's unusual, but having no one at all anticipate it seems like a stretch. Obviously he could be exaggerating, or maybe it's just because he went into expecting heterosexuality, but it seems to imply something particularly odd.
  8. Honestly, I can't pick a side without knowing the specifics of the actual war. There are just too many unknowns at this point. If we're picking the favorite planet, though, Roshar all the way. SA is definitely my favorite of Sanderson's works (I like the others too, obviously, but they're not quite the same). The worldbuilding and magic systems both interest me more, and there are so many characters that just statistically you're more likely to have a favorite. Plus, I've always preferred Paladins over Rogues.

  11. Alright, thank you. Aylitha might need to get involved once we start poking around the hospital, since we'd be looking for other people with memories coming back. And do you happen to know anything about this era's Worldspike?
  12. Kodwola watches them for a moment, nervousness abating as the rangers shift their gaze. Then she turns and heads to the bar, climbing up a chair so she can whisper to the barkeeper. "Listen, I don't know what Mr. Eben just said to you, but I apologize for inadvertently exposing your concerns. It's now relatively obvious that those two 'adventurers' over there are not all that they wish to seem. I would be very grateful if you would be willing to tell me what their true function in this town is. I shall do my best, as an adventurer myself, to shield you from the negative repercussions of such." Do you need persuasion? If so, I rolled a 9.
  13. @Negative_Null
  14. "Yes! Yes, a later reconvention is perfect. I shall await the ninth hour with, ah, eagerness." About halfway to the bar at this point, Wola stops moving and just stands in place, hoping that the rangers are about to leave.
  15. This may have already been asked at some point, but I'm nevertheless curious: does storing nicrosil (feruchemically) store your ability to tap nicrosil? I know it stores your ability to use Investiture - if you store everything you've got in a keyed metalmind, do you then lose the ability to access it?
  16. I think that either one has a chance. Fullborn are powerful, yes, but the Radiant has plate, which protects them from most forms of Investiture. Plus, the Fullborn isn't even armored. Yes, they'd have gold compounding, but the Radiant also has powerful healing (especially if access to all 10 surges includes the enhanced healing abilities of the Truthwatchers). A Radiant, if they're fast enough, can soulcast the air around a Fullborn's head into metal, or sink into the ground and come up at unexpected moments. What would really be the decider, as has been said earlier, is if the Fullborn could flare chromium and wipe out the Radiant's stormlight. Without that advantage, though, I think they could be fairly evenly matched.

  18. Yeah, good point. It does seem like our characters are on their way to initiate the main plot, though - are any of the people running that still active?
  19. "Ah, I'm not sure that - perhaps we may discuss your, um, business another time? When I...um... am not so wearied from my travels, yes? I believe that would be...better for all involved if we were given some time to recuperate in this, ah, lovely establishment, yes?" She meets Usavi's eyes, desperately trying to wordless communicate her suspicions. @AmazingGoob

  22. Wola looks around the room, taking in the strained atmosphere. "Right. Yes. This conversation is truly riveting, and I would be delighted to continue it. However, I'm suddenly feeling extremely dehydrated. My throat has become dry from all of the travelling I've been doing. Yes. And because of . . . how excited I am to be of assistance with your monster problem, of course. Excitement is often a contributor to a sudden need for liquid refreshment, yes? I am going to go and place a request for a beverage, and you can continue to explain the situation to Mr. Usavi exactly as you had been before. Indeed." As she blunders through this speech, Kodwola carefully stands and begins to slowly edge backwards toward the bar. In case you couldn't tell from that performance, I rolled a 4, for a total of 2, on a deception roll.
  23. Ah, too bad - I was hoping the 19 I rolled earlier could get another use. I got a total of 15 this time.
  24. So, Wola is currently very suspicious of the rangers; she suspects that they might be exploiting/controlling the villages somehow. Should I roll a new insight check to see if I get any information on that, or will the old one carry over?
  25. Wola nods slowly. "Surely you would not enter into such an arrangement were it not mutually beneficial, yes? If you do not consider it too forward of a question for me to ask, what are you provided in exchange for such services?"
