theory [OB] Adolin and Shallan will not last
Use the Falchion replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
If Jasnah abdicates? Kaladin maybe? Someone who's been around the entire series but has been darkeyes would be ideal. Maybe Alethkar as a country won't exist by the end of the books, so there's no need for Jasnah to rule. -
Brandon mentions Adolin needs to decide his Ideals
Use the Falchion replied to Wintersu's topic in Stormlight Archive
Oh that's nifty! Mine is that he - with instruction from Azure and/or Vasher - will find a way to hack whatever "cultivation-light" is into Breaths (or something functionally similar) and use that to reanimate Maya so to speak. -

Interesting! This could work with a theory I'm cooking up...maybe Adolin decides NOT to go down the path of Radiants and decides to find a separate way to make his mark? Interesting... -
After a pretty long bit of radio silence this week has had some bittersweet news for Dark One. The good news is that as of yesterday, May 28, the manuscript for the Dark One "Book One" graphic novel* is finished. The bad news, as seen in the tweet, is that we'll have to wait a year before it comes out. This news actually came out on Monday. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/05/27/brandon-sanderson-the-dark-one-vault-comics-2020/#.XO1SRS0WA9U.reddit The hopeful news: When this project was first announced, Dark One wasn't sold as just a graphic novel, but also a television show (the original story reworked into this), prequel books, and even an in-world podcast. It is possible that the delay for Dark One was due to these multiple moving parts, and that the graphic novel will usher in either the television show or the podcast. Either would be great. There is the chance that it's due to simple delays, but until proven otherwise, we can dream! So in the end we might have to wait another year before we finally see the story Sanderson has wanted to share with us for years, but when we do we might be getting SO MUCH MORE that year (Dark One, potentially the Wheel of Time tv show, the Dark One tv show, and Rhythm of War). *I put an asterisk by this because while I still believe that Lanzing and Kelly's work will be a graphic novel, the page, length and the "book one" aspect of it cause me to doubt a little.

More details with the new Famitsu article! They are dropping a LOT on us* in a short amount of time, which to me makes it all but certain Three Houses will be at E3 this year. *by which I mean the Japanese audience and places that translate it for us. https://serenesforest.net/2019/05/29/three-houses-famitsu-third-article-part-1-2-early-story-battle-system-new-classes/ https://serenesforest.net/2019/05/29/three-houses-famitsu-third-article-part-2-2-weekend-activities-new-character-details/#more-52185 I'm excited about all of this information, but I'm worried that I won't be able to explore the game to the fullest due to the constraints. But that's probably because I'm too used to the 3DS games lol!

Gryffindor the first two times I took the Pottermore test (nearly ten years ago!), Ravenclaw the third. I still stand by Gryffindor though!

Yeah I'm thinking he misspoke, but if we get a Lopen novella between pretty much every book (or alternate between Lopen and Lift) I'll be a happy dude!

Favorite book by Brandon Sanderson

Mistborn 1 is what I used to say. I still thinks so, really. But Oathbringer was really important to me at a really dark time so I usually state both. -
I want Cosmere based video games
Use the Falchion replied to NattyBo's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Oh interesting! I've never considered SA light that. Very interesting...But maybe a historical-era Mistborn game would work just as well too? I mean, you wouldn't have flying units, but steel mistings and Mistborn would be able to travel longer distances, so there's that. Rioters and Soothers work like buffers and debuffers (like daggers/shuriken in Fates), and so on. I always thought that SA would be like an old-school Bioware game, where there's a lot of branching dialogue and what you choose determines what order you end up joining. The game would go through the Last Desolation and would end right where the Prelude starts, so players could feel like the journey continues in the books and it might be gamers to try out the books. I mentioned it jokingly the other day, but I also kinda want to see a forgery-based stealth game. I'm TERRIBLE as stealth-based games, but this is one I'd love to play. -
So I was at a bookstore on Sunday and I found that a book I was excited for and then completely forgot about came out! And when I looked at the cover, I couldn't help but think that I had seen something vaguely similar to it before... They're both done by the same artist, Charlie Bowater, and are both in the First Person, Sci-Fi YA genre, but as far as I know that's where the similarities end. I bought the book, but I'm not sure when I'll read it just yet.

theory [OB] Adolin and Shallan will not last
Use the Falchion replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
The only way I can see Adolin and Shallan not working out is if Shallan becomes a world-hopping Ghostblood member (although weirdly enough I see that more as Jasnah's role post-SA...assuming she lives) and decides to stay on another world and/or Silverlight while Adolin stays on Roshar to be the Kholin highprince. -
Welcome to the Shard! Have fun exploring, but sleep is important too!

Sanderson X Fromsoftware
Use the Falchion replied to Silverblade5's topic in General Brandon Discussion
So you're saying you DON'T want a stealth-based game that's a sequel to Emperor's Soul about Shai sneaking into places and using Forgery to get around guards?* Blasphemy! *Or alternatively, a new Forger trying to find out about Shai, which leads him to discover the Cosmere as a whole. -
Brandon Started Writing Sixth of the Dusk Sequel in Germany

Thought Sixths of the Dusk was pretty interesting, but not my favorite novella by him. But I'll take a sequel! Heck, I'll take pretty much anything he writes. -

Ah, gotcha. I didn't know there was a spectrum. Thanks for the info!

So long as they're okay with it and it doesn't play into any power angles or anything like that, why should we care? It's not like there aren't couples with age differences like that in the real world. I see them as having many potential areas in common or at least areas of respect, but they only have had one conversation and I'd like to see more. Renarin and Kaladin…? You're gonna have to explain that to me one day because I can't see it at all. Also, quick question. When you say ace-spec, does that mean both Ace and on the Autism Spectrum? Because I asked about Jasnah being intentionally Autistic at the Skyward signing last year (the Houston one, but I couldn't record it because I got my picture taken with the phone that had the audio recording. I'll ask again next time he does an AMA.) and she's not. But I've stated my reasons as to why I like them on other threads about them so I don't want to drag it too off-topic.

I exist and Adolin's going to be a radiant
Use the Falchion replied to Aluminum's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm always torn about this. On one hand, I love Adolin and I want to see him succeed. At this point, success looks a lot like gaining superpowers and dealing with his sorta dead sword. But...does that HAVE to be the case? Adolin's main place in the story was that he had everything. Good looks, royal family, skill at dueling and fashionable to boot. He was a great Alethi male. And then everyone around him, including his little brother who he always looked out for, gained superpowers. Suddenly he's...well, not less per-se, but normal. To give him powers to catch up fits the world of Roshar and the danger its in, but I'm not entirely sure it fits the Adolin and his potential role in the story. I'm conflicted. What if Adolin discovered what Cultivation-light was for, and used that to revive Maya? What if he joined the Ghostbloods, traveled off-world in-between books 5 & 6 - assuming he lives to that point - and gains a different type of investiture and uses THAT to jump-start Maya's revival? Would we still be satisfied? What if he just goes to the Nightwatcher and asks her to revive Maya? What if he hunts down Azure (or rather uses Zahel as bait to find Azure) and asks her how to make a blade like she has, because he can't revive Maya? Or what if he tries to remake Maya into a blade like the one Azure has (although this links back into outside Investiture hacks)...you know what...I kinda like the sound of this last theory. So here's my new theory. Adolin wants to revive Maya but he can't get stormlight and no spren will bond him (maybe due to his relationship with Maya). Adolin then remembers Azure is looking for Zahel, so in a Darth Vader vs Obi-Wan moment, Adolin defeats Zahel and uses him as bait to lure Azure out. Adolin leverages Zahel for information about how to build a blade like the one Azure had, but he can't do it with Stormlight. So the three all travel to the Nightwatcher (Azure because she wants to know what she did with Nightblood, Adolin because he finds out Cultivation hangs out around there and he needs advice, Zahel because he's being dragged along). Adolin finds out about Cultivation-light and uses that to imbue/remake Maya into a fully functioning (although very different from normal) spren again. -
Shallan/Adolin, Kaladin/Jasnah, Renarin/Lift (Post-timeskip), Taln/Shalash
-
The twist being that Shallan THOUGHT she took up different Shards, but in reality they were just different aspects/avatars of Autonomy. All of Adolin's ex-girlfriends show up Shallan's baby shower. Shallan blushes. WoT spoilers: Odium decides emotions are too troublesome and becomes Apathy. Honor is resurrected by Syl, effectively becoming her own grandparent. Cultivation is killed by Dalinar in a freak accident and is taken up by Lift, who decides to rename herself the Awesome Gardener.

So according to IGN (who cite BuzzFeed News) there's a Star Wars KOTOR movie in development. While I'd rather see KOTOR as a tv show given the length of the game or a revamp of the game given how loved it is, I'll take a movie too! It should also not that this IS NOT A GUARANTEE THAT THE MOVIES WILL HAPPEN. I might never get past the development stage. What are y'all's thoughts on all of this? https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/05/23/star-wars-movie-based-on-knights-of-the-old-republic-reportedly-in-the-works https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/kateaurthur/new-star-wars-movie-knights-of-the-old-republic

Child of Tanavast / Child of Honor --> now with WoB
Use the Falchion replied to Winds Alight's topic in Stormlight Archive
A slightly cliché but not unheard of theory: What if Kaladin's spirit web was actually mirrored off of/formerly was Tanavast's? Like how Christianity has The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit as one being but separate, maybe Tanavast did a similar thing? It wouldn't be the first time "The Chosen One" would be raised by someone who doesn't share all of his DNA (Luke Skywalker*, Rand Al'Thor, Jon Snow...you get the picture). Kaladin has some pretty strong messianic tropes as it is (not as strong as Kelsier's but strong enough). I'm not saying Lirin and Hesina aren't Kaladin's bio-parents either, because I believe they are. But what if Kaladin was...more? Not sure how it'd play out, but weirdly I can't imagine it ending with Kaladin reforming Honor or anything like that. It's not his path to do so at the moment. *Yes I know Luke isn't The Chose One, but he's the first person with the Hero's Journey for most Star Wars watchers and fans, so he kinda counts.
