  1. Well, i looked up really quick, and it looks like the interviews you're talking about with the CEO came out after the initial post in response to things said by the creator of minecraft (notch). I haven't watched 'em yet, but until i see an actual game (not a pre-made video) that uses it, i honestly won't believe it. As i said previously, their methods of rendering in and of itself is nothing new, it's just completely unusable for gaming. They just claim to be able to cut away the "crap" and render only what is necessary, thus making it useful for gaming. I'm not saying it's impossible, indeed, i actually think that it (it's viability for gaming, not necessarily what they claim to do) will happen eventually. They may be legit. Honestly, i HOPE they are legit, because that would as revolutionary to gaming graphics as 2D to 3D was, but this doesn't mean i'm going to believe them based on some random, beautifully rendered videos they've released.
  2. Heh, yeah, i figured i'd mention the cosmere 101, because there was no indication about any knowledge of how the cosmere works, and i knew there were some heavy mistborn spoilers, but figured those would be fine, there just isn't really any major spoilers for any OTHER books. but yeah, i considered that contradiction that came pretty much in the same breath, and found it slightly amusing myself.
  3. Welcome, Tangletalon! Hope you enjoy your stay here with us at the 17th shard! Yeah, there's quite a number of people around here who likes math as you see (myself included, though it's hard to NOT like math when you're a software engineer). Also, insanity usually fits in fairly well around here, too.
  4. Welcome to 17th shard! Since it seems you haven't read all of brandon's work yet, I'll go ahead and put out the usual disclaimer to be careful on the theories board, as its rife with spoilers and doesn't require spoiler tags. Also, since you haven't said how much you know about brandon's work, i'll go ahead and point you to the Cosmere 101 thread, just in case you weren't aware of how brandon's books are connected. Note that it's slightly spoiler-ish, but not that bad in the scheme of things, and even though you haven't read the books would elicit more of a "huh, didn't know that" response rather than "this thread ruined the book for me" response. I don't know how much you care about spoilers, but I know some people can't STAND 'em, which is why i give you such warnings. Anywho, look forward to seeing you around! I'm Eerongal, the resident global mod! Hope you enjoy your stay and all that!
  5. Welcome to 17th shard! For being from spain, it seems you speak english very well! Also, I think youre our second user from spain. I'm pretty sure someone else around here utas from spain, but I don't remember who off hand
  6. Nice. Know what kind of specs it has?
  7. To be fair, there's nothing stopping you from doing it on your own. It just wouldn't Be 17th shard official, I suppose
  8. sounds good to me
  9. I think thats a good idea. Honestly, i always thought we should have some kind of regular podcast. For the first few, i would agree that you should go over general cosmere info, like how all brandon's works are related and such.
  10. They were recommended to me by a couple of friends when i was in either highschool or middle school, don't remember specifically. It was sometime around book 6-7's release (late 90's sometime). I got the first couple of books and devoured them right up to book 5 really quick. then kinda got out of em for a while, and got back into them when book 10 was released and started from the beginning and went through all of them (at the time) and from there just read 'em as they came out.
  11. IIRC when TLR ascended he had several beads of Lerasium which he gave to his supporters, which is what later became the aristocracy, so it's pretty safe to say that most, if not all, of the original nobility members were likely mistborn. I could be misremembering this, though, it's been a while, can anyone else confirm?
  12. Seeing her immediately spring forward and launch into an attack, I quickly alter my plan and go on the defensive. Interesting....Fairly aggressive it would seem. I could use that. Continuing on the defensive, I allow her to gain ground, while still blocking and parrying to the best of my abilities. damnation she's fast. I haven't let a blow past yet, however I don't know how long I can keep this up if she keeps pressing hard and fast like this..... Paying particular attention to how she presses the attack, and looking for any apparent openings in her style, I take note of the bulky parts of the armor, but also more importantly the less bulk parts. So....If i had to hazard a guess, the thinner parts of the armor won't terribly enjoy a good, solid hit from my hammer. And those crystals....I wonder if they're entirely decorational or not. Considering these points, I pay close attention to the various ebbs and glows of the crystals as she presses her attack. Finally, once we start nearing the edge of the arena, I begin staying lower to the ground, as much as possible, and continue to block and parry to the best of my ability. Staying low like this will force her to work around the bulkiness of her shoulder armor. Since she's young, she likely isn't as comfortable in armor as I have become over the years. I'll continue like this for a bit, let her think I'm cowering, and then when i see a clear opening, I'll strike around the waist area where her armor seems thin with a good, stout blow. That should hopefully knock her off balance with as fast as she's moving and give me a good idea of what I'm up against in terms of how hard it will be to break through her defenses. Putting on a guise of determined concentration, i proceed to enact my plan.
  13. well, personally for me, one of the biggest issues with a lot of things is the clutter forced upon us by "user friendly" UI things i dont use. That's actually what got me to swap from firefox to google chrome, the extremely simplified and slimmed down top bar. (and also why i dont like those toolbars you can install in IE, not considering the fact that many of them are ripe with spyware. Though those aren't as bad since they're optional on the user's part)
  14. ISOs and VHDs! Yeah, i'm stoked about that particular feature(s), because i say its about time.
  15. Yeah, i saw it had the ability to be turned off, however, this just reeks of the usual microsoft attempt to push people towards it as a standard. It wouldn't surprise me if it starts becoming mandatory in a future release. Especially with all the figures and seemingly proud air the article had. Honestly, i don't know anyone who likes the ribbon, but I could be a minority for all i know.
  16. Windows 8 will incorporate the Ribbon UI from office into the explorer window I don't know about you guys, but I can stand the ribbon UI. It's needlessly complicated when through a combination of menu options and context menus you can, i feel, rather intuitively, and more importantly more compactly, achieve the same result. What does everyone else think? hate it? love it? Indifferent?
  17. Yeah, magneto would win hands down. He is way overpowered. Also, in regards to metals being ferrous and non-ferrous, magneto can manipulate both. He's also used his power to manipulate gravity and generate wormholes before. Also, he somehow is able to channel his energy into his own body that makes him more powerful, more durable, and faster than the average human. He's seriously overpowered. No contest.
  18. yeah, i got that message earlier when i tried to post in a topic about an hour ago, and it's also the one i mentioned yesterday. So something fishy is going on....
  19. Welcome to the forums, pat!
  20. A challenger appears!
  21. So for my knowledge for writing out this fight, my guess is that she's using shardplate, right?
  22. I got this exact same thing a couple of times about an hour ago. I refreshed and it worked properly, so I just kinda shrugged it off and moved on. It's been fine since then.
  23. Welcome to 17th shard! Hope you enjoy your stay and all that! So.....no one seems to have mentioned this yet, but: What, pray tell, is this boring work, and more importantly, what is this place, and why is it so interesting, if you don't mind my asking?
  24. Welcome to 17th shard! I haven't taken the time to read all the rest of the posts (because I'm lazy), but I did read you initial post, and I have to say, i really the visual puns gallery you got there. Puns amuse me greatly, and making them visual = a million times better. Plus, you appear to be rather handy with a paintbrush, which is something i always admire because i am terrible at painting/drawing.
