  2. Happy birthday! Also: 1 more post and you break 1,000!

  3. according to this on my page im getting some upvotes from posts that are at 0 for the reputation on them (and no listed down votes), so im not sure its 100% accurate..... Also: the addition is much appreciated anyways
  4. 5 minutes in and im pretty sure its awful.
  5. I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to get at here. Are you saying that labels like bi-sexual and homosexual (and like transexual) are basically meaningless because once you step outside of the "reproduction" aspect of sexual behavior what you specifically do has no real repercussions (other than your personal pleasure, of course)?
  6. Amnesia is great, but in my opinion, penumbra (the developer's previous game in a similar style) the is much more nerve wracking than amnesia. Also: moving to entertainment discussion.
  7. a women having relations (sex included, among other things) is indeed considered a homosexual act, however, this doesn't necessarily mean the persons involved are actually homosexual. As stated previously, they could be bisexual and enjoy both encounters of a hetero and homo nature. The people involved could also actually be bi-curious. Bi-curious being people who are of one sexual preference (homo or hetero) but has a "curiosity" about the opposite (so a homosexual who has a "curious" nature about heterosexual relations, and or vice versa) that they may or may not act upon to commit said acts to play out/satiate this curiosity. As odd as it may sound, performing a homosexual act doesn't mean that you are actually homosexual. That being said Aran'gar is a bit of a special case since she is LITERALLY a man in a woman's body. Though, as far as has been stated, s/he is actually now bisexual. Though, in the context of the sex s/he had in ToM, yes, that sex would be considered homosexual. There isn't even a grey area to it IMO like there would be with a man who underwent gender swap surgery and then had relations with a woman. Aran'gar is now female, in every aspect, genetically, physically, and even mentally (as evidenced by the fact that she now ALSO enjoys the company of men, which s/he didn't enjoy in her previous male life). So she is female in every respect, it's just that her previous life and memories of it have "twisted" the standard lusts and desires of her current mind.
  8. I can second the notion of audio books for these as well. I initially read all of them, most as they came out (so it broke it up pretty well) and i wanted to reread them before the final book, but balked at the idea of starting all the way over, so over the past almost year now ive been listening to them on audio book, and its been pretty smooth so far. They're pretty good quality (though i personally prefer the male reader to the female one. They swap based on the sex of the current PoV character, i think he does a much better job with emotion in the speech, and has better voices for the characters in general)
  9. I'm relatively sure that at some point in time jordan explicitly stated that this was exactly the case, though I'm much too lazy to go looking for the exact quote or anything. So, i suppose that it would depend on if your definition of "homosexual" includes bisexual as one sort of "blanket" term.... edit: there are also some homosexual characters within the wheel of time series, though its not always immediately obvious. There were a couple sea folk who there were a couple "clues" about at one point, that i remember, and i think galina (black ajah aes sedai) is supposed to be. It talks about at one point how galina has always preferred the "companionship" of women to men (that or im confusing her with another red/black) Also, anytime you hear two women refer to "pillow friends", they're referring to someone they had a homosexual relationship with at one point (though that person may not necessarily be homosexual)
  10. this site has excellent chapter-by-chapter summaries of every book, with various cross references to things like particular item/creature definitions and stuff. That being said, you totally need to read books 1-11. It won't make ANY sense if you don't, especially since we're now seeing the wrap up of some plot points that have been going on/growing for at least like 4 or 5 books now
  11. Sorry I haven't had a chance to follow up on the story topic recently, i've been fairly busy. I'll see what i can do about getting a post out in the next couple of days or so.
  12. tit-for-tat, the gameplay is pretty obviously ripped off from WoW with a few minor changes. For example, there's no auto-attack, instead you have an ability that costs 0 force that attacks for like 3 attacks and its cooldown equals its total casting time. So instead of autoattack, you spam an ability, or you use one of your actual good (costly) abilities. There's also light/dark side points. It's not a bad game, in fact, i found it fairly fun for the bit i played it (got to level 15-ish on a weekend beta). The cut scenes and all were pretty neat, and it really helps in my opinion for you actually caring about the lore/quest/whatever. I don't honestly know if i would pay a monthly fee for it, it's too "standard" when it comes down to it with nothing terribly new.
  13. Apparently it's called a "weta". Imagine finding one of these in your garden.
  14. I have no idea what you're talking about.
  15. millstone from antiquities was not tap. Just looked it up on starcitygames.com (they sell magic cards), though it may have been an error on WOTC's part. link I remember it well, because some dude i played with a lot back in the day had one, and i thought it was stupid broken. Edit: hrm....i can't seem to find any info on the antiquities one not saying that it taps (just with a quick minute or two of googling). so i don't know
  16. heh. that's not the old millstone from way back in the day (the one i was talking about). That's apparently a rerelease (that i was unaware of). The old one didn't tap when used.....HUGE difference..... Here's a picture of it:
  17. a "mill deck" is basically a deck that has tons of cards to make your opponent discard cards from his library. this is to take advantage of the "run out of cards and you lose" rule of the game. I always heard the term came from an (old) MTG card called a millstone, that did just such a thing at a very low cost (its also tourney banned, i believe)
  18. just a small niggle with your explanation, but from the way you described "artifacts" it sounds more like you're referring to "artifact - equipment" (specific types of artifacts) as opposed to artifacts as a whole, since artifacts have a huge range of what their specific effects (significantly more than just buffing creatures and preventing certain conditions). Other than that, everything else looks pretty rock solid to me. also, i'd just like to put this out there. It's basically an open source program for building and playing MTG online. It may also help to go into what the different types "mean". Such as that white is mostly protection/healing based, blue is mostly "crowd controlling" effects, black is damage/insta death (for creatures), red is direct damage spells, and green is buffing (obviously there's more to them than this, but as a quick overview of types and what you can expect from the different colors)
  19. i cant even BEGIN to imagine how long this must have taken....
  20. Personally, I'm on board with surging or over-tapping. "stack" doesn't really feel right to me. That feels more like using more than one metalmind at once, as opposed to "flaring" one metalmind. Condensed i dont like, because it makes me think of condensed milk. as for the term shardholder, i've previously figured out a perfectly acceptable replacement. See my signature for details.
  21. well, to be fair, string theory is a bit more than just applied philosophy. Afterall, it emerged from working from the mathematical theory perspective, it just currently isn't testable given technological limits. Basically they have a lot of equations that, in theory, work out to describe the possible functions of *A* universe, they just have no way to prove that this in fact describes *OUR* universe. That said, yeah, string theory is very far from a proven fact. But it's also fairly interesting stuff, in my opinion
  22. Yup, moved and merged (and now commented so others don't think peter's comment looks silly in here, referencing the same topic...)
  23. Mulling over his statement momentarily, i reply, "Well, while we're being honest, I suppose I should admit that I had all ready found that out." Glancing sideways at River to check his reaction, i continue, "Furthermore, I don't trust you. Not just because of the shady circumstances under which we met, but also because I've known men like you. You strike me as the scheming and conniving sort, always out for yourself. In short, a man would be a fool to put his full trust in your ilk." Turning towards River, i press on, "That said, I'm willing to work with you if need be. I would rather work with someone I know I can't trust than one I'm unsure of. But know this, I will take whatever steps necessary to see the others out of this in one piece. Should you step one foot out of place, I will not hesitate to protect my own." If he wants to work with me, he needs to know up these things up front. I won't be seen in a similar light to his sort. Standing up from the bar stool, I affix a stern gaze on River and await his reply.
  24. uh oh, physics is mentioned. Chaos will be showing up in 3......2.......1...... but no, physics is awesome. I highly recommend "the elegant universe" by brian greene. About half the book is a sort of "primer" to physics that doesn't get too deeply into equations or anything, and the second half is an overview of string theory. And, at least in my opinion, it's very far from being a "dry" book, it's actually a really good read.
