  1. That is a very strong assumption about what Connectors can do. We can be reasonably sure that they store "raw" Connection not a specific Connection. The translating medaillons wouldn't work so universally otherwise. And Henderwym apparently strengthened at least somebody's Connection to him. Or that abybody who wants to do research has to belong to this group and needs to be checked for the "right" attitude periodically and closely supervised. You could argue that some people in the Cosmere believe so. Vasher for example. We agree that no private citizen should own a hydrogen bomb, don't we? Looking at Ashyn can we truly say that is not the equivalent of what we are looking at?
  2. Zahel is Dalinar's Ardent. The majority of Daniel's troops is in the field, mainly in Emul. Most likely Vasher is in a field hospital there.
  3. But it is the end. They need willing Singer bodies to come back. With the war ending, the supply will dry out. This is it, the end of an era.
  4. You may ask what this has got to with Rhythm of War. We have seen what a whacky Bondsmith can do. The number of Bondsmiths, however, is quite limited. All but one is constrained by oaths. Among those at least two Bondsmiths are chained to Roshar. But there is one other group of people who have unlimited access to Connection: Duraluminium Compounders. With the advent of medaillon technology into a scientifically advanced world, they will start studying these hings. Slowly at first, but then inevitably. Twinborn can worldhop without a problem. Keeping that in mind, we have to ask a provocative question. Is the Set correct? Does this need to be stopped by all means necessary for the good of the rest of the Cosmere?
  5. If they were, how would he know? And of course the Fused are facing enormous consequences. Odium could be set free. The cycle of Desolations is over. And they can either live peaceful lives and develop their Singer brothers or head out into the Cosmere leading an army of Odium.
  6. Sometimes, for example in the middle of a war which the fate of a dozen worlds may be at stake in, somebody's wishes, personal growth or emotional state must be disregarded in the face of the common good. And you just do your duty and what needs to be done. I suggest that that applies in the case of Navani and The Sibling to the fullest extent. And it needs to be pointed out that The Sibling is merely requested to take a risk while a large number of people actually died defending Urithiru. That is especially worth considering if you essentially are a tower who will inevitably be high on the list of enemy targets. You cannot run away.
  7. I was wrong about the assault on Urithiru. I expected it to end in a bloody battle, not in an occupation.
  8. If that were the issue they could just live in Shadesmar. Well, OK, anything can happen. Kaladin is going to marry Cultivation and their babies will be half dragons and fly around the valley. And Oroden will bond the Nightwatcher and become the third Bondsmith.
  9. Shalash just destroys them. There is no element of curiosity or examination present. She destroys what is wrong - Skybreaker She destroys a lie - Truthwatcher I am afraid this notion is fueled by a wish to see more Dustringers and/or Heralds which leads to not really looking at some clues. And generally the Heralds, save Nale - are expressing a desire to get away. Linking themselves to a Spren, who cannot leave, looks like a further problem, not a solution to me.
  10. Then she should have Plate. She has had the Patternblade at least since the chasms. If she advances she must get Plate. Now in her case it is possible that her advancement varies by personality. There is no known precedent. And in her case we must consider the theory that she had Plate for years and repressed the memory. In fact we may get the nice little logic bomb that her last truth is that there should be no last truth.
  11. In terms of years of bondage she is likely to be the second oldest Knight Radiant outside the Skybreakers. Perhaps even the oldest. It was acknowledeg to be true. The Lightweavers are confusing, if I am allowed to repeat myself. In fact: That is a perfect summary. In addition we do not know whether there is threshold of relevance. Can you advance with a thousand small truths? How relevant to yourself do they have to be? Would "I always suspected that my parents loved my brothers more." count? "My wife cheated on me even before we were married." Personal enough?
  12. If these messages were not conditional, how to explain the coincidence of finding not one but two candidates only a few years before Taln broke but no candidates before that who refounded the Knights Radiant? Had Urithiru not been rediscovered, the Knights Radiant refounded and the Oathgates reactivated, Odium would have won. True. But why did multiple other orders start rebonding a few years before Taln broke? By sending him a message the same way he sends them lots of Stormlight? Or via the oathpact? Or a messenger? They Unmade are on Roshar all the time, but Honor cannot get a simple message to Braize? Then why did the restart of Spren bonding and Taln breaking occur nearly simultaneously?
  13. Lightweavers are confusing. It is commonly said that they use truths instead of oaths. That is not completely true. They do swear the first oath common to all orders. Hence they have four truths and one oath. A Lightweaver of the second truth is equivalent to a Windrunner or Skybreaker of the third oath, as there is one additional oath.
  14. Other than Elantrians and Arelon, all magic systems of Sel seem to accessible to everybody with the right nationality. That is if you are from MaiPon, you can learn to be a Forger. Now some system seem to be closer to Dominion and you deform your bones by human sacrifice, but still everybody from Fjordell can do so, potentially.
  15. The Immortal Words I am terrified I killed my father I killed my mother I killed my Spren I may have reversed 3 and 4 I would not count #2, but from a purely mathematical viewpoint, she is at five.
  16. We have assumed that the Stormfather started sending Gavilar visions because he sensed Taln being near the breaking point. That seems an awfully convinient coincidence that Alethkar happened to be united for the first in generations just as Taln broke. Do we have cause and effect correct? Did Taln know of the Stormfather's mission? Is it possible that Gavilar inadvertedly started the Desolation uniting Alethkar?
  17. "Son of Tanavast" They are Windrunners not Bondsmiths. Yet after the initial bond where did they go? The leader's friends. The fairy tale is where a nobody from the provinces saves the day. The Stormfather needed a warlord, hence he picked a warlord. We have to face a truth. Dalinar was not picked because he changed from being the Blackthorn, but because at some level he is the Blackthorn. Burning Rathalas has made possible uniting Roshar.
  18. Technically we have no idea whether the individual in question is fully fertile. There is no reason to assume that is limited to sex. Any bodily change should be possible. How is one bilogically speaking Alethi? You could probably look Alethi, but there is no indication Stormlight healing or Progression could change spiritual or cognitive aspects. You'd keep an accent or body languahe. The Knights Radiant seem to be unable to make gemstones by arcane means. That one is likely to kill you,or if you are very lucky turn you permanently into slave form.
  19. I am afraid your preferences for the story are incompatible with an internally consistent story.
  20. To a large extent it is. The Kholin family is special. How often do two brothers take over a country? Lift Taravangian Cultivation Moash It got the group there and it drove away the Tukari. Shadesmar is a really hostile environment. You need to make your own water and nothing is edible without Soulcasters. Hence you need a large logistic troup containing native Soulcaster Radiants. The mission itself was quite successful. Of course they did. They fought off the Skybreakers and Heavenly Ones over the battlefield and did numerous scouting missions. The people the Truthwatchers and Edgedancers healed were glad they were there. Large undertakings like a military campaign are team efforts and not everybody can have a flashy or even interesting job. Nevertheless they were vital. The only Radiants we missed were the Stonewards and Dustbringers. In the latter case for obvious reasons. Now, a few things touching fundamental issues. The way aracane powers are set up in the Cosmere it will be dominated by a very small number of actors or even single ones. Three Bondsmiths for a whole planet. Only one could enter the well and take up the power. Sixteen Shards for the whole Cosmere. Fabrials and related technologies may change that. But not here and now. Secondly. we are talking about preindustrialized economies save for Scadrial. That meas that average people will be poor and uneducated. We have seen very little of Roshar's village life and what we have seen was through the eyes of a middle class boy. These people would not make particularly good Knights Radiant. See the troubles Wyndle had with Lift. Thirdly, bonding for most Spren is utilitarian. Now, it may be unflattering to liken a Knight Radiant to a lichen, but ecologically speaking they are very similar. Technically we have a case of symbiosis. The Spren grants the physical partner the ability to use Stormlight in a highly advantageous manner, while the physical partner allows the Spren to live in a highly hostile environment for long, just like a lichen. (Bondsmiths are an exception) The Spren also have a military and political goal. They want to fight Odium. Furthermore they are genuinely interested in the ethical goals of their oaths and some have a genuine interest in humans. Their ethical goals, however, are limited. Even more limited than Honor's. They are not interested in justice as such (in the law, yes, but not justice) nor are they interested in equality (not even in the most basic sense of everybody having human rights - Spren have no issue with slavery) and with the the exception of the Willshapers they are not interested in liberty. Hence they will bond based on efficiency. And here we are back to ecology. Where does a bee send other bees? To a place of known resources and they will explore the vincinity of that place. Why? They are looking for people with certain qualities. Often people with these qualities will be in the same place. In fact Kaladin trained the people in his group to be better at the qualities the Spren seek. It is better and nicer for them to be nearer other Spren of theri kind. They have an interest in helping each other. The physical partners have an interest in finding better new symbionts. The system of squires facilitates that even more. You saw it best in the Skybreakers. They cooperated to set up training and test faciilities for new candidates. There are ample reasons for the Spren to bond predominantly near Knights Radiant and their families and friends. How could a story with too many improbable outcomes be plausible?
  21. That is the one thing we have very solid counterevidence against. Kelsier felt a force drawing him back on the way to the Ire. There he stole the gadget that let him take up Preservation. So it happened before he became a Sliver.
  22. What is the advantage of Fused over true Voidbinders or even Regals? Going by pure abilities the Fused are inferior in most aspects. Only one Surge and neither Plate or Blade. Why would Taravangian seek to prolong this condition? They are so supremely useful to the Singers because they are ex-slaves. There is no Everstorm on other worlds. On other worlds the Fused won't be tactically speaking unkillable. Surely he could recruit people. But he already has them in form of the Veden and Iri armies.
  23. Honor's plan is a political alliance of all of Roshar, not some kind of social revolution or reform. He needs an Alexander or Caesar, somebody who has troops. Picking somebody like Lift or the Stump works for the less political orders. The Bondsmiths are most emphatically not among those.
  24. Very well. Threnody is fascinating but not on topic here. So can we agree that the independent issue of getting a CS out of a system does not exist? The core issue is that some Investiture is tied to a place and if a CS happens to be made of such Investiture they will be bound otherwise they won't be. Why Investiture is tied to a place is an issue to be explored. Small problem. Honor is dead. That looks like circular reasoning to me. Mraize tells us that Thaidakar has an issue similar to the Heralds. The Heralds are subject to the Oathpact.
  25. Marsh is still around for sure at the time of SA. Although he strictly speaking likely has only a subset of abilities. We also obviously have no account of all beads of Lerasium. Kelsier is strongly implied to be reincarnated. Well, maybe, but that does not help us due to being anachronistic. Secret History happened at a time when people on Threnody still chose to become Cognitive Shadows with the "proper rituals". In fact it looks like the arrival of the Evil happened between Secret History and Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell. The Shades likely existed already but were still on an unsettled continent. The Cognitive Shadows the Ire and their guards talked about were not Shades as we saw them. Is this actually true? Preservation told Kelsier that he would not reach the well in time. That indicates that reaching the well in time would do the job. Preservation just literally pushed him into it. And what kept the Heralds alive? Honor or the Oathpact? The problem does not end there. Why would Rayse desire Dalinar's soul if he could not leave Roshar? How did Seons get to Roshar?
