  1. IMO, if Adonalsium designed Roshar for a purpose, it was to kill Rayse. After Rayse had fulfilled his purpose of course.
  2. Maybe. The books were published 8 years apart though, so I would say that it is at least possible that he hadn't fully developed that story yet.
  3. The best theory that I’ve seen (and the only one that makes sense IMO) on the FTL system depends on offset speed bubbles. I don’t see how a single Allomancer could utilize it without Ettmetal machinery.
  4. That's more like the engine rusting because it doesn't have oil.
  5. Those magic systems exist with or without the physical presence of the Shards who's Investiture they use. Under normal circumstances, the magic systems come into existence naturally. The Shards can chose to make changes, as Preservation did with Allomancy and Atium, but the system would still exist if Preservation decided to leave (discounting the fact that Ruin would destroy the planet in Preservation's absence). If the magic systems did depend on a Shard "deciding" to power them, then Surgebinding should have stopped working when Honor died. For that matter, Aon Dor should not be able to do anything at all, given that both Shards in the system lack a living vessel.
  6. @Oltux72 I think you might be confusing Investiture the physical manifestations of Investiture (such as atium, Stormlight or Breath). Take Allomancy for example. The metal that they burn is not really fuel and does not become Investiture when they burn it. Instead, the burning metal acts as a key that lets them access their Investiture. The metal is the focus. The Investiture is the thing that gives them the ability to burn metal, and the power that they gain access to when they burn it. Its part of their soul. I'm not sure what you mean here. A Shard does not need to be on a world in order for it's magic systems to function. Their power is Universal and does not require the presence of their consciousness to serve as a source of Investiture. Aviar get their power from the parasites that they get from the worms living in and around the perpendiculariy pool on First of the Sun. They are then able to form a bond with a Human similar to a Nahel bond that grants the Human a power. I don't know much about stuff from the unpublished works, so I couldn't tell you how Ashyn and Yolen work.
  7. Shallan has murdered several people with her blade. Jasnah has murdered several people with her surges. Kaladin has killed dozens of Parshendi. Szeth executed a guy and killed a crapload of Singers and Sadeas soldiers. Note that these are simply the instances that I could think of where KR have killed people after having sworn their oaths. NOT pacifists. Oddly I can't think of any scene where Dalinar killed someone after having sworn his oaths, so there's that.
  8. Is there a thread on this somewhere? It's the first time I've heard of it.
  9. It's a question that I raised in a different thread. If it is possible, an Allomancer of a high enough Investiture level could potentially push/pull on the ISM and travel through space.
  10. I wonder what that means for gasses that have metallic solid phases like Hydrogen and Helium. What about different metals under extreme pressure scenarios where the crystalline structure is altered but the metal is still in a solid phase? I guess it would never really become an issue in the books since those kind of conditions are only found in extreme environments like the cores of planets or the lower atmospheres of gas giants.
  11. If anyone knows how to ghost a Shard, its Hoid. Saze even wonders in The Letter how Hoid avoided detection. I also can't help but wonder if Brandon hadn't yet created the full story of Secret History when he wrote HoA, and therefore did not know that he would be putting two beads in the chamber instead of one.
  12. Brandon
  13. I chose option four. They all die as punishment for derailing every thread ever.
  14. @Weltall It's weird that he said "futures/pasts do branch" while simultaneously saying that the past is fixed. That WoB does kill any possibility of a multiverse though, so thanks.
  15. An Elantrian could probably just create a Shardblade with Aon Dor if they where so inclined. Personally I don't see the advantage for them since they can probably already remove someones soul without even touching them. Why bother with a big dumb sword at all? For the Metallic Arts I'm unsure. A lot would depend on how some of the powers work. For example, if A-zinc and A-brass are able to be used on an objects Cognitive reflection, could you use that to convince the object that it is something else? What if A-steel and A-iron are actually pushing on the objects Cognitive reflection? Could you use that to rip someones soul out of their physical body with a high enough Investiture level? I don't feel like we have enough behind the scenes (Cognitive/Spiritual) knowledge of the Metallic Arts to say for sure what exactly can be done with them. I suppose you could just get yourself a Hemalurgic spike and ask Sazed to make you a blade. That would probably be the easiest. Edit: You might be able to do something to a Shade on Threnody to get it into blade form. Seems pretty thin though.
  16. I agree with that completely. It's kind of like character resurrection, it removes permanent consequences from the equation and makes things seem less important. "Uh oh, looks like so and so died again. I wonder how long it will be until he comes back?" *shrugs*
  17. This is fantastic art work. Do you do this sort of thing professionally?
  18. Yea, I was thinking along the lines of Marvel or DC comics, where there are separate versions of the same Universe in which different choices have been made. WoT spoilers
  19. Basically just what the title said. We know that the future is not predetermined in the Cosmere, so do all of those branching paths create new Universes?
  20. Each of Shallan's personalities take up different Shards and then go to war with each other. Spoilers for other Cosmere works
  21. He didn't make himself any nicrosilminds, so I would guess that someone with 10x Lerasium beads would at least pose a threat to him. They would effectively be Vin with the Mists, before her ascension.
  22. I don’t cry for sad parts of books or movie, or in general. That being said, for some reason when I read parts of books that have a sense of moment, such as prophesy or when a major plot line comes to its climax, I get cold chills and my eyes water. It’s really weird because I’m excited, not sad.
  23. Something I like to do is make up new metals/powers for the Metallic Arts. I was curious if anyone else ever does this, and what powers they came up with. Here are a few of the ones I've come up with. Cesium: Feruchemy - Stores size (things inside of you shrink/grow as well). Allomancy - Absorb electromagnetic radiation/become invisible (not true invisibility, but more of a shadow shroud). I picked Cesium because it has one of the highest thermal expansions of any metal, and it would be interesting to see someone try to use a metalmind that can melt near room temperature. Cesium-Gold Alloy: Feruchemy - Stores color (become flat grey like a lifeless when storing, gain aura like a Returned when tapping). Allomancy - Emit electromagnetic radiation (pretty much any type, with increasing power required for higher frequencies/eV). Tungsten: Feruchemy - Stores shape (when you store you become soft and gooey like a Kandra. When you tap you become hard *chuckles*. No seriously though, you gain a Superman-like hardness. You can still move, but to external things you would act like something made of wood or metal depending on how fast you tap). Allomancy - Absorb Investiture (you generate a "bubble" of aluminum). Tungsten Steel: Feruchemy - Stores sound (clapping your hands or stomping your feet make almost no sound when storing, the same claps and stomps would sound like gunshots when tapping). Allomancy - Emit Investiture (other peoples powers go haywire near you, but you have basically no control over how. You pretty much become chaos incarnate for other magic users. "Meant to soulcast that into water? Well it turned into live eels instead. Have fun with that."). I tried to keep the Feruchemical powers all in the theme of how you would describe something physically. Size, shape, color and sound. Sound is kind of an odd duck in that group, but I couldn't come up with something better. I can take solace in knowing that bronze and electrum are in the wrong place, so not even Brandon pulled it off perfectly. Well, there's one of my fantasy quadrants on the Metallic Arts table. Hopefully I'm not alone, I would love to hear what kind of crazy stuff other people have thought up.
  24. The main problem with these "if this metallic are does this, it has to do that" threads is that you could follow that chain forever. You say that if they store speed they also have to store gravity. Well if they store gravity they have to store mass. If they store mass they become less dense or lose volume. One would make them flimsy, the other would make them implode. Both cases would violate conservation of matter since there is no energy gained. The simple answer is that you can move normally when you tap F-Steel because your perspective doesn't change. To you it seems like the world is moving slow, not that you are moving fast. Perception and Intent are a big part of all of Brandon's magic systems and shouldn't be ignored. It's the same with F-Iron. You don't feel like you are heavier, so the extra "strength" you gain doesn't make you stronger. You simply perceive yourself as being normal, while your environment sees you as changed.
