your statements are nonsenseI. I gave you a concrete example of how the increase of a single foot doubles the mass in a very robust man and you just ignore it because it does not correspond to your wishes. Why should the bones of the legs develop in proportion to their size and those of the skull not? Just because it suits you? All the bones will develop in proportion so we are talking about a resistance at least 8 times higher. You are vastly overestimating the Shardplates. Shardhammer will be no more than 7 feet long and in your opinion weigh more than a 12 foot long sword, by what logic? for a 12 foot Koloss a shard hammer is little more than a toy. Vim and Elend use small swords, 7 feet maximum, slightly lighter than a shard hammer. And Elend kills a 5-foot Koloss, out of sheer luck, and stabbed him by surprise, so as to knock out his arm. Ps. Andre the giant 7.3 ft 520 lbs, but he did not have well developed musculature. and the world record for one-handed lifting is 172 lbs

No firearms have completely revolutionized the way of fighting. Dalinar should completely overhaul his way of thinking about warfare, which is all about close combat, and re-train all his men, making him completely change his mentality, not an easy feat. Navani should first be able to get a weapon from the enemy, and that would already be a challenge. Studying gunpowder, a chemical compound he doesn't understand the basics of, and start producing working prototypes. At the same time Scadrial would have already decimated Roshar's army and began massive weapons production and mass training. in a year of war Dalinar was unable to regain even a meter of territory from the Parshi. Indeed, the parshi have improved their warfare techniques while the alliance has remained firm. As a military genius, he's not worth much.

Mike tyson weighs around 220lb by 6ft tall, Thor Bjornsson weighs around 440lb by 7ft tall. weight increases exponentially with height not linearly. So a 12-foot Koloss will weigh several tons, and his bones will be 8-10 times stronger than those of a human not just twice as much or they would break like bread sticks. An elephant distributes its weight over 4 legs and not two legs, so the bones of a Koloss are reasonably similar to those of an elephant.

I do not agree. The Koloss' flaw is that at some point they die of a heart attack, as happens to many athletes who play sports based on physical mass, such as sumo fighter or wrestlers. But to hold their own weight, bones must be as strong as those of an elephant or they would simply break at the slightest movement.

the conception of war on roshar is firm in the Middle Ages. It is based on melee and tight formations. He would have no hope in a modern army like Scadrial's, based on firearms and ranged combat. And no military genius could bridge this difference except in the long run. If you can cancel or limit the magic, Roshar has no hope.

You don't need the power of a modern anti-tank rifle to penetrate a shardplate. Szeth manages to demolish a dead shardplate with a 20kg stone traveling at approximately 140ms. And Jasnah's living shardplate is damaged by a single hit from a fused. So the resistance between a live and a dead plate does not change much. what changes is the ability to auto repair. A steelrunner or pewterman can achieve equal or greater results with high-mass subsonic bullets. Like a javelin or a steel ball the size of an orange. A coishot could replace copper coins with steel arrowheads, harder and more aerodynamic and with greater impact power, and then flare the metal. Considerably increasing the power of the bullet. Vin during the siege of Luthadel kills a 12-foot Koloss by hitting it in the skull from about 30 meters. And I think he was just flaring his steel as he still uses the coinshot afterwards. Given the size of the Koloss, Vin's bullet has the same power as an elephant gun. that type of rifle was used during World War I by British snipers to pierce 10mm steel shields. And the live or dead Shardplates are not so resistant otherwise it would be impossible to scratch them.

I agree. According to the clinical definition Dalinar has a behavior much closer to psychopathy than Kelsier's. At least until Cultivation brainwashes them.

Not so, all the Kholin have become radiant or are close to them. Even Ekodar could become one, the others are random people who still obey Dalinar and his family. Even Kaladin ultimately only plays a passive role in the story.

The only decision the emperor made was to fully support Dalinar . And in reality in almost the whole civilized world the people have deposed the nobility that ruled by divine right, replacing it with democracy. It did not happen by courtesy of the kings but thanks to the people's uprisings. Spren should bond with people who embody certain ideals regardless of race and class, in this book it seems that only the Kholin and their underlings are worthy, a little too comfortable. In reality, being the son or relative of a great man does not at all mean being equally skilled. On balance both Navani and Jasnah can be considered the smartest only because most people are kept in ignorance. It is totally unrealistic that a nation like Azis, with a high schooling rate, does not even have a scientist on par with Navani.

This is the thing that bothers me the most. Fundamentally all positions of power are occupied by Dalinar and his family while the others, including Kaladin, do nothing but obey. In the end it is the story of an elite that expands in its power and grants only an illusion of equality to all others.

Vin: Windrunner, Edgedancer Ham: Windrunner, Stoneward, Dustbringer Clubs: Stoneward, Lightwevers, Willshaper Breeze: Lightweaver Sazed: Elsecaller, Truthwatchers Dock: Elesecaller, Skybreakers Kelsier: Elsecaller, Bondsmith, Skybreakers I chose the order of skybreakers for Kel and Dock because they both pursue the goal of freeing the skaa in a fanatical and ruthless way. Just like Nin and Szeth do, who obey their code of conduct by putting the morality of their actions on the back burner.

I agree era 2 was a big disappointment. I liked AoL but the two sequels were so disappointing that I also re-evaluated the first book in negative. The setting is banal, a copy of pre-industrial England with a hint of the old west. And the development of Metallic art was really disappointing.

I think if Dalinar is worthy of redemption it will show in the choices he makes in RoW. If he tries to win the war by exterminating the parsh, it means he has learned nothing from previous mistakes. What I didn't like about Oatbringer's ending is that Dalinar seems to feel remorse just for killing his wife not for all the other innocent people he has massacred. And it is enough for him to obtain Evi's forgiveness to resolve all his conflicts. I found it too convenient a solution.

Unpopular Brandon Sanderson Opinions
Gisaku75 replied to not an Evil Librarian's topic in General Brandon Discussion
aluminum and duralumin are absolutely useless if you don't have other powers. Gold and Electrum are defined as useless by Miles, in 300 years no one has studied these two metals to discover their potential? Chromium and Nicrosil are useful only when they act on a very small part of the population. It seemed to me that Sanderson decided to make the effects of some metals so particular that he didn't have to worry about them in world building and storytelling. the same thing can be said for many metals in feruchemy. In 300 years, the Terrisian have not understood what they do, or the effect is so particular that it alone is useless. -
But the concept of var is evil. The current situation was caused by Gavilar, he wanted to unleash a desolation because he believed the only way to bring all peoples together was to wage a war against the Voidbringers. Elhokar, with Dalinar's approval, has found no better way to keep the kingdom united than to wage a war against the Parshedi. The war turned into a cruel game that pushed the Parshedi to the brink of extinction. And in their despair the Parshedis turned to the Voidbringers. I believe that the presence of a convinced pacifist would only be good for the coalition, given the mess made by the militarists.

Unpopular Brandon Sanderson Opinions
Gisaku75 replied to not an Evil Librarian's topic in General Brandon Discussion
the development of the metal arts in the second era is lazy and superficial. Many of the new metals are called useless so Sanderson doesn't have to take them into account in the narrative. -
the astronaut suits weigh a hundred kilos. Here we are talking about wearing armor that will weigh at most 20 kilos or to attach a 2/3 kilos of darts to the uniform. It's like comparing a fighter fully loaded with missiles to one without armament. In a year of field training the advantages of ranged weapons and armor would be evident in my opinion.

I think a gambeson or a brigandine would be ideal for defense. The fused have no shardblade so you have windrunner just don't get hurt to make the stormlight sucking spears useless. the loss of mobility would be amply compensated. Historically, the evolution of warfare leads to the construction of weapons capable of striking from a distance. So bow and arrows or lashing darts would be ideal. There are arrowheads made specifically to be difficult to extract. And as long as an object remains planted in the flesh it is not possible to regenerate. it would be enough to build darts made in the same way. This way of fighting would be ideal at least in the early stages. It would force the enemy to evasive maneuvers and keep away. Just like it happens in real aerial combat. For the melee I think it would be better to have a buckler and a short sword or a halberd to try to damage the fused spear. The Romans used the Gladius for this very reason, to break the enemy spear. Even if that of the fused ones is made of metal it is not certain that it cannot be damaged so much making it unusable.

Everything Gaz has done he has done under the threat of ending up among the bridgemen. For him, Kaladin's survival was a problem as his superiors wanted him dead. In the end he couldn't take it anymore and fled. He is a cowardly and mean person but he is not a monster. Dalinar massacred thousands of people, including his wife, and was eventually granted forgiveness. Gaz too can redeem himself.

All orders should carry plate armor or brigandine to protect themselves from stormlight sucking spears. I don't think we have seen Fused with Shardblades, but either way they would be so rare that wearing heavy armor would be useful in any situation. Windrunners should carry small daggers to use as projectiles using lashing or bows and arrows to use before entering close combat. And a metal buckler to use Reverse Lashing. Since the coalition knows aluminum, every Radiant should have a weapon with a tip made of this metal. It would be enough to stick it inside the Fused and break the handle of the weapon to leave it inside the wound. If I remember correctly as long as the aluminum remains in the wound it continues to bleed. Fused people should wear a plate that covers their entire chest to protect their weak spot. Maybe made with the metal of their spears to prevent the use of shardblades. against the Thunderclasts, siege engines should be used. Or big lashed metal bullets.

The Fourth Bridge Callback (released chapter spoilers)
Gisaku75 replied to bridgemenspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
in my opinion fused do not need to do all this effort. It would be enough for him to lash rocks against the hull of the Fourth Bridge to seriously damage or unbalance it. Slow and big as it is, it is a very easy target to hit. -
The Conundrum of Conjoiners: an Analysis of Navani's Airship
Gisaku75 replied to Pagerunner's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Not being a native English speaker, I find it difficult to understand too technical texts but it seems to me that the principle behind Navani's ship is unnecessarily complicated and impractical. A group of windrunners could simply lash the hull of a ship and obtain a kind of zeppelin powered by the Stormlight. And it would make it move thanks to the force of the wind or by changing the direction of the lashes. What is the advantage of Navani's system? the least use of Stormlight? -
Dalinar bends the handle of his Shardhammer because he used it to break stones for hours, not with a simple accidental grasp. And in the books the fight between a pewterman and soldiers or Koloss has never been described so we have no comparison. But from the descriptions of the books, and from the pictures, a Koloss sword and a shardhammer have the same dimensions. So the force required to use them effectively in combat must be equivalent.

She uses iron and steel to keep moving, but he manages to maneuver the sword fast enough to amputate the limbs of the Koloss, One is cut almost in two.
