“Hey,” Kezeras yelled at Ani, “come sleep in here.” Why would I ever say that? Why? What’s wrong with me? But she remembered, from just a few moments ago, sitting on the rooftop with him, how warm he’d been, how happy that had made her... maybe having him there would make her feel better. “But don’t try anything, okay? Okay.” @Ark1002

“Yes, it’s true,” Tena said dryly, pulling away from him for a moment. “I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t mean it.” She went back to kissing him, her heartbeat rising. Rising... Oh great Sisters, no. By the time she’d realized it, it was too late. *** Kezeras woke up, suddenly a sixteen year-old girl again. And immediately screamed. Nonononono, she thought instinctively, pushing away from Telth and shouting again. I’ll kill him. I’ll kill him. No, go away. Don’t hurt me, please. Don’t... She Steelpushed against one of the iron chimneys behind the man and sent herself flying away, barely thinking, not knowing what was happening. But then she realized that she wasn’t in a safehouse, and that that man wasn’t Telth (her mind let out a whimper at the thought of that name), he was Anthony Nightshade and she loved him. Why did she love him? Why? How could she ever love a man after what Telth had done to her? The last twenty-nine years came back to her in a rush, and she gasped. She’d nicknamed Anthony Ani, and she’d only known him for a few hours. But she felt like Tena had known Anthony, not her. She just wanted to go find a quiet place and hide, but she also wanted to kill Telth and kill him again and again and again. She barely managed to gather her wits, and, realizing that she was falling down and was going to hit a roof, Steelpushed against another chimney and clumsily flew back onto the roof Anthony was on. She Ironpulled lightly on the chimney behind him to keep herself from falling over, suddenly clumsy with her Steelpushes. She’d only Snapped a little while ago, she couldn’t be expected to be graceful. But no, she’d been Steelpushing for years and years. Hadn’t she? C’mon, get yourself together, a voice from the future suddenly commanded, and Kezeras fell onto her knees. She started crying, and arranged herself with her knees against her chest. That’s not it. Stand up, quit crying; what happened happened many years ago. You can deal with it. But Kezeras didn’t know how to act like an adult, she just didn’t know... She started burning pewter to try and stabilize herself, and it helped a little. She burned tin for a moment, then tried to talk to her spren, wanting Iffina to help her. Iffina always knew what to do. But Iffina wasn’t there. She tried summoning her spren as a staff, but that didn’t work either. Nothing was working. Had her spren left her? All those things she’d done, during the Seven Day War, just a few days ago... Iffina was gone. “No,” Kezeras cried. “No, come back.” Then, an older, mature version of herself took control. “I need to find somewhere to sleep,” she told Ani. @Ark1002

I loved Warbreaker, though. I loved basically everything about that book. But TFE is my all-time favorite, since Kelsier is featured in it. Also Mistborn: Secret History.

Wereci rolled out of the way of the Yeti further, cursing loudly in languages nobody there except Scruff understood. She pressed her ears down at the profanity, and Wereci stopped after seeing her discomfort. “Look,” he said to Shifty, it’s been real, and it’s been fun. But it hasn’t been real fun. Bye!” He waved, spoke into an intracom on his ear, then he, Scruff, and the Winged disappeared. @Ark1002 -
I’m pretty sure you said the same thing about TUBA back in the day, Mraize. Though I wasn’t around, so I might be wrong.

Okay, okay. I have been pulled in by this conversation. Listening to Elantris on Audible has definitely tarnished my opinion. The guy who narrates it has a distinctly annoying voice, and the way he narrated Hrathen grated at my sanity badly, especially since I listened to it for the first time on a long, boring car drive without anything to distract me from that voice. Raoden and Sarene both bothered me. Even though I’ve listened to this book three or four times, and read it once, I still can barely stand either. Raoden is a spoiled prince who liked annoying his father just because. Like Elend, and I don’t like Elend either. When he gets tossed into Elantris, he simply falls into every lucky situation the universe hands him. Galladon shows up, and Raoden gets a free ticket to his new friend’s useful wisdom. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good guy with good intentions. He’s reasonably good at a few things. Also, why would he bother to learn Aons so well? That’s another thing that got on my nerves. Sarene. So feminine. So pretty and pink. That grated on me SO MUCH. If Brandon wanted to include some women-empowering content, that’s all right, but the way he did it with Sarene really hurt. She’s a believable character and everything, but I hate masculine female characters that aren’t actually masculine. She’s also spoiled royalty, just like Raoden. They’re practically the same character in opposite sexes. Specific examples? Sarene does whatever King Iadon wants, she plays the meek idiot and doesn’t interfere, she doesn’t stand up and fight for what she believes, she just gets lead around. Except for that part where she brings food to the Elantrians, I liked that part. Now... Hrathen. Hrathen was great. Such a complex character, doing what he believes, then having his beliefs changed. He faces his fears and does what he deems right.

Tena smiled at Ani’s discomfort, then registered what he’d said. Did he mean it? Did he really mean it? She couldn’t be all that beautiful, she had scars and... other things, right? As she tried to think of stuff that would make her undesirable, she realized that there really weren’t many. Did she actually look beautiful? Really? Then, words came to her. She knew what to say, maybe even if it wasn’t as dramatic as Ani’s speech. “And you,” she pointed at his chest with a finger, “are my love. My love.” She growled out the second sentence, daring anyone to challenge it. And if they did, she’d kick out their brains with hobnail boots. Didn’t matter who, she’d do it. That’s probably too morbid to say out loud. @Ark1002

Tena was brought up speakless by that last sentence he’d spoken. I must be the luckiest man in the world. She breathed a short gasp. I... I’m making him lucky? Me?! I’m a ruthless killer, an emotional wreck, and I’ve miscarried two children! Who could ever think that having me makes them lucky? She looked up at Ani’s face, and into his eyes. Ani. Ani could. He barely knows anything about me, about what I’ve done, but he still loves me, doesn’t he? She didn’t know what to feel. Was she tricking him into becoming involved with someone any sane man would never date, or was he a sweetheart and she wanted to kiss him a thousand times? Maaaybe both? Her irrational emotions won over after a brief moment of struggle, and Tena kissed him soundly for a few seconds. That’s number three, you fox, one accusatory part of her singsonged. Oh, I love him so much, I love him, another part said. How the hell is this relationship going to progress? yet another part inquired. Tena didn’t pay attention to any but the second. @Ark1002

Tena leaned into Ani, closing her eyes and pressing her head against his shoulder. He was warm, and the faint chill she’d acquired from being outside faded. “I love you,” she said quietly to him. “Even if you are a little obnoxious sometimes.” @Ark1002

“Craeskiene elev corthat lievra,” Tena squeaked, then pushed herself off the roof. She dropped a coin in front of her, then Steelpushed on it and sent herself flying back onto the roof, already in combat stance with a knife held in front of her and her spren formed as an axe in her other hand. Then, she saw that her attacker was Ani and fell to her knees, panting. “I am going to kill you,” she said matter-of-factly to him, her spren dissipating as she put her knife back into its holster. She composed herself and went back to the edge of the roof, sitting with her legs hanging over the edge. She breathed, slowly, then answered his question. “Maybe a little.” @Ark1002

Tena was sick and tired of waiting for the Walker guy to wake up, so she waved at Ani and walked to the door. “Bye,” Tena said to him, then strolled outside and climbed up the drainage pipes on the building nearest to the restaurant, to the roof. She sat down with her feet hanging off the side of the building, tilting her head up and closing her eyes, breathing the cool evening air. It’s lovely outside. Even in the city it’s lovely outside. Tena was very used to living in cities; she barely ever went outside of them. @Ark1002

Wereci tapped Scruff on the shoulder lightly, then began twitching his hand, the fingers moving faster and faster as he powered his bond to Scruff with kinetic energy. The Yeti seemed to freeze in place a few feet from Wereci, and Wereci strolled over to it and formed Vengeance in his hand, stabbing the spear into the Yeti’s eyes and then its brain. He drew out his sword and casually stabbed it into the other eye, then brought both weapons out, watching as blood slowly welled out of the Yeti’s eye. Wereci walked back to Scruff, severing his bond with her and diving to the side, her actions mirroring his perfectly. The Yeti crashed face-first into the roof, blood pouring out of its face and surrounding its head, like a halo around the fur on the roof. @Ark1002 -

The wolf disappeared, its eyes wide enough to show whites on all sides. "Oh, you've scared it off again," Wereci said. "Now I won't see it for at least another three months. Thanks." He rubbed at the scars on his face with the back of his arm for a moment, then looked at Shifty and thought about it. "Eh, sure. Don't have any ^&#(ing thing else to do at this point. Hey, Varath," he called to the Winged standing awkwardly a few paces away, "I recommend you fly away before they try to turn you into a wolf too. I doubt you'd be any good at it." Then, a huge, snarling dog appeared in front of Wereci, growling at the wolves and Shifty. Wereci's eyes widened. "Scruff?" he asked in a voice that was quiet, disbelieving. The dog turned around to him, and her snarl disappeared, tongue lolling out of her mouth. He fell onto his knees and scratched behind her ears with one hand, Scruff obligingly moving into the right position at his thought. "Hey," Wereci said to Shifty. "I think I'd rather just have my link with her. You... oh, nevermind. Viv, we have to fight." She knew that from his thoughts, but obviously hearing him say it aloud confirmed it for her. @Ark1002 -

The wolf stiffened, and Wereci grinned. Then, the Tesan answered Shifty's questions for the wolf. "Nope, and yes. Poor thing is far too used to being by itself." He howled a short hello to the alpha female respectfully, wishing he had a tail to wag at her. But, unfortunately, he was still human. His ears flicked back. @Ark1002
