  1. I think my problem with that is it is almost like a middle-man connection. Like they in and of themselves are not the same thing, but are connected through something. But that’s the best explanation for how they are connected so thank you. I agree that it is hard to sum up a shardic intent in one word. But I’m not sure the intents are that much up for interpretation. It really is hard for me to see Honor becoming Unity because Bonds. It is too big a leap for me. Ruin chose to interpret and use his Shard like entropy, but he was still Ruin. Odium can be pretty destructive with his intent but he is not Ruin. And Harmony tried to interpret his shards as essentially balance, but obviously he is still dealing with issues related to the fact that they were once Preservation and Ruin. So I feel like Tanavast picking up a Shard that was supposed to be Integrity or something, but interpreting it as Honor, and another vessel could then go back to Integrity and interpret Unity seems a bit like the odd one out with the other Shards. (Granted we don’t have many examples of Shards switching vessels.) Another thought I’ve had though while considering this are Honor’s Ten Names and Purposes. There are some good comments about Unity as one of those on the Unity Shardcast that I liked. While I don’t see Unity being completely synonymous with Honor, I could see it as maybe being a part of Honor. And to me it fits because Dalinar Ascended in a significantly smaller way than others we’ve seen. So he only ascended to a piece of Honor that relates to its purpose of Unity. Really random thought that I don’t think will actually happen, but maybe each flashback character (or modern counterpart) will ascend to a different Purpose of Honor.
  2. Can someone explain to me why people think Unity is Honor re-interpreted? Besides the fact that Dalinar said “I am Unity” and he is also connected to Honor through the Stormfather? Because if we take the people and situations out of it and just look at intents, the connection between Honor and Unity seems tenuous to me. While I don’t think this is part of Dominion in play, I could far more easily see Dominion re-interpreted as Unity than Honor.
  3. First time commenting on Shardcast. I look forward to these every week. And these Kholin episodes have been fantastic. It seems like despite getting to know them for 3 books, there is still so much we don’t know and may never know. It is super exciting. Few thoughts I had while listening this week. Another reason Elhokar might have defended Aesudan so much is that if Gavilar introduced them or threw his support behind her due to Sons of Honor connections (which I would believe 100%) maybe Elhokar felt like “But Dad liked her. Dad wanted her. How could he be wrong?” Just another feeling of living in a shadow. And I think Jasnah has a huge blind spot for Gavilar. I don’t know how she can get bad vibes from Amaram and Aesudan and not anything strange from her dad. And thinking of Renarin. If Truthwatchers are supposed to be able to understand the truth about people and situations, then he seemed to have that down as a kid. I can’t wait to see more of his relationship with Jasnah. All in all, the Kholins are complicated and all the more awesome for it.
  4. Well Kelsier might like that Jasnah threatened to kill Hoid, but she is also the epitome of noblewoman. And a dangerous noblewoman at that. And Jasnah would probably view Kelsier as either someone to hire/use like Liss or someone to use Liss to eliminate because he is too much of an unpredictable potential threat. Overall I’d say they dislike each other. Shai and Renarin
  5. Wow. That’s... right. Ha ha. I will have to come up with some better clues next time around.
  6. I had to look him up. That was a tough one. Now to think of someone... Okay. First clue: This character is educated.
  7. Ooh. These two will get along really well. Although Teft will probably punch Wayne in the face on occasion for being obnoxious. Which is okay because he can heal. But I think that while Teft is more gruff and Wayne hides his problems in jokes, deep down these two would really get each other. Kiin and Rock
  8. Not sure that there is any evidence to support this, but could the Aimians be involved somehow. Stealing that honorblade seems like something a crafty sleepless could pull off. And they are a pretty mysterious bunch.
  9. Good point about the letters and Ars Arcanums. That would be a great place for information on the other events and places on the cosmere. I would be fine with things in there.
  10. I don’t necessarily want to “see” them all lategame. Just learn what happened to them, where they’ve been, what they’ve been up to. Even if it is a line like “Oh man! *Insert unknown Shard name* totally got wrecked by Autonomy before she took on Harmony...” Then they are accounted for even if they aren’t present.
  11. I was thinking Ashe the Seon but no worries. As for Vin and Adolin, I think if she really gets a chance to know him, she likes him. She’d probably be like Kaladin and hate him at first for being noble, but if she didn’t kill him too soon he grows on her. Adolin likes her too. Karata and Palona
  12. Ha ha! That would be an interesting pair for sure. But I can’t think of any times that MeLaan has broken a promise. She believed TenSoon about the First Contract and Vin and I’m pretty sure removed her spikes when they needed to, to prevent control by Ruin. So ultimately I think the Stormfather is confused by her but doesn’t dislike her. She would probably find him stuffy and boring though. So ultimately they tolerate each other. Pattern and Ashe
  13. Thanks @Calderis I had forgotten that Dragonsteel would have all the original vessels as the story of the Shattering. But it makes sense. I really do hope we see or hear of them all at some point in the end too though. And yeah it seems like pretty solid RAFO territory.
  14. I do agree with what people have said about scholars/ardents being at least somewhat aware. But I would also consider that knowledge of Shadesmar does not necessarily equal knowledge that it is one of THE three realms. For all some of them know, it is just A realm or alternate dimension thing. Although @galendo is right that it is pretty easy to get information if you can get to a city in Rosharan Shadesmar. Edit to add: I also agree that ancient radiants would obviously know more than current humans.
  15. So by the end of the cosmere will we know and see all 16 shards in action? Or know what happened to them at least? We have Dominion and Devotion on Sel. Endowment on Nalthis. Preservation and Ruin on Scadrial. Autonomy on Taldain. Ambition shattered somewhere. And Honor, Cultivation, and Odium on Roshar. Is that all we know for sure so far? So we have 6 left with most of the main cosmere planets already in play correct? With the exception of Dragonsteel are there any big cosmere series planned where other shards could be? Or will some of them only show up in short stories or novellas as a bonus?
  16. Hey! People are playing. I figured this was just a flop of an idea. I don’t think they would like each other. Kaladin would probably see Kelsier has dishonest, manipulative, and as having less than honorable intentions. Kelsier would see Kaladin as too idealistic and “moral” for lack of a better word currently. Dalinar and Hrathen
  17. I’m not the biggest fan of cognitive shadow/reborn(?) Kelsier. I secretly kind of wish he had just gone to the Beyond. But we’ll see how it goes in the future with him. Also I still don’t like Vivenna much. Beginning of Warbreaker she was insufferable. She got better by the end but I still find myself indifferent to her. Although I am more curious about her as Azure and post OB. I will be interested to see where she goes in a Warbreaker sequel. I recently re-read Elantris and was surprised by how much I really enjoyed it. It was the first one I read by Sanderson, but wasn’t my favorite of his. But this time around something about it just was awesome for me. To segue from Elantris to Stormlight: Raoden (though I still really like him) is much more of a Mary Sue than Adolin. He seriously did nothing wrong the whole book. Adolin is awesome. I really like him. I originally thought he’d have some serious issues after WoR but I am totally fine with what happened with him in OB. I don’t mind that he hasn’t had comeuppance over killing Sadeas. Given the Alethi culture, that none of the highprinces really mind that he is dead, and none of them would have batted an eye had Adolin killed him in a duel from his boon, I think the results make sense. The one person who will have a hard time with it is Dalinar because codes and Honor and stuff. And those are some of what I view as my controversial cosmere opinions. Apparently I have quite a few.
  18. When your 5 year old tells you he has awesome powers and that his closest friends and family can have his powers too. And you think, “My child is a Windrunner and I just became one of his squires. Cool.”
  19. Thinking some more on this I would also add Venli. She’ll manage to sway a significant portion of the Singer population away from Odium and he’ll kill her for her defiance.
